  • In this Revival Cycles Tech Talk, Stefan unboxes the Motoscope Pro from Motogadget. This gauge does more than tell you your current speed and RPMs. Think the USS Enterprise dashboard. Possibilities range from current hours on your engine to low fuel light and timing your 0-100. This compact unit features an aluminum outer housing and crystal clear glass that allows you to have access to the vitals without overwhelming your handlebar switchgear. When you're looking to get moto-nerdy, look to the Motogadget Motoscope Pro.

    love the gauge , too complex for me . i can make simple connections in serial and parallel, however do not understand adding a breakout box . Would have loved to install these in my New enfield interceptor but alas cannot. Before anyone suggests to use a good aftermarket service , i dont have a trustworthy service agent near my village ..

    Hi guys quick but genuine question about the scope pro and mini. I purchased a moto gadget mini and light bar for my project build. On my original bike the dash had a fuel gauge display as a series of led blocks . Since buying the mini I realised it doesn't have a fuel gauge display like the pro but I was wondering is it possible instead of wiring the rev led display on the mini could I in fact wire the fuel display as the rev display .
    And as the fuel supply starts to reduce the rev leds start to wind down.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated and as always great videos

    Do you need a breakout box to use this if you already have an m unit and m button?

    Great tech talk, as usually S.:)! One question: How far (max) can magnet pass magnetic switch to generate the signal?

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  6 лет назад

      according to motogadget the clearance should be less than 2mm or ~0.080" but generally it isn't very sensitive, and it can easily be tested with a basic multi meter.

    Hey i just ordered this for my 1976 cb550. Im a little confused on how this gauge picks up the rpm indication because it seems to be different than the stock cb550 tach/ RPM cable that it uses.

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  7 лет назад

      There are a couple ways to do this, and the easiest way in my opinion is to connect the yellow wire to the negative (switched side) of the ignition coil. This will send a signal to the gauge everytime the coil fires.
      The other way is to use an analog to digital converter that connects to the original tachometer cable, and that device will switch the rotatory cable motion to an electrical signal. There are several of these devices that exist, but we have not found one that we want to sell yet. Generally it is more reliable to simply connect to the ignition coil.

    Has anyone tried fitting this unit on late model, Husqvarna street bikes or KTMs'? Wondering if it would work on a Vitpilen 701.

    Stephen, how do you attach the wires to the mini switch? I tried to solder the wires to it but the heat melted the plastic part of the switch. Luckily it’s only a $6 part.

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  6 лет назад +1

      Ok, this is always a little tricky, but with a little practice its not too bad. The issue is the amount of time you have the solder iron on the terminal of the switch, clearly shorter is better. So to reduce the time to actually complete the solder joint, you need to spend a little more time on joint prep. Make sure you "tin" the wire ends first by applying some solder to just the stripped wire section. Then get the switch terminal and tinned wire fixtures so that you don't have to hold them with your hands. That leaves both hands free, one for the solder iron and the other to introduce solder to the joint. Lastly touch the iron to the wire and terminal and introduce a little solder, as soon as you see the joint look "wet" remove the iron and let it cool.
      Don't worry I've destroyed a handful of switches the same way, after a little practice it gets easier.

    hello. very interested in this. when i buy i will buy from you guys. questions. do i need to purchase an additional button for the motogadget pro to go through the menus? what material is optional bracket made of? can i bend it?

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  8 лет назад

      The motoscope mini does come with a small push button specifically for cycling through the functions. This button can be installed in several places (simply drill a hole and thread on the nut), but some people prefer to have the button installed somewhere on the bars. In the case that you would be doing a full build and using and m-Unit and m-Switches, two 3-button switches will leave one extra button for the gauge in addition to what is needed to control the bike.
      Also because the switch only needs to handle signal level current, you can use virtually any momentary contact switch you like.

    Hey there Stephen, got a few questions that are actually blocking my progress, ive already watched your videos to get my M-Unit blue up and running with an M-Button, Ive made a brand new electric arness for my bike from scratch and its all working great.
    But now... Ive just bought the Motoscope pro and I was wondering, can I connect the speed sensor to the M-unit to the AUX2, and the motogadget ignition signal pickup unit (article no 9000001) to AUX1 of the M-unit and then get all the information to the motoscope pro via the bus LIN cable on the M-Unit?
    I mean getting a breakout box when I already have an M-unit seems useless.
    Is this possible or am I tripping?
    By the way how do I even get the information on the motoscope pro gear engaged? I have a connector out of my bike with all the gears cables from the OEM loom.
    Sorry for all the complicated questions and thanks in advance for all the help ive got from all your videos.

      I have not tested connecting the motoscope pro (MSP) directly to the m-Unit, and motogadget doesn't discuss that in detail in the manual. So as far as we know you still need a breakout box for the MSP, and we agree this seem redundant. If you have this all setup it might be worth trying, there isn't a risk of damage making the connection to LIN. Just not sure they have that supported in firmware/software yet. As far as the speed sensor goes, you should be fine to connect that to both the MSP and m-Unit, that is how they intended that to work.
      The gear indicator on the MSP doesn't need a connection to the engine, only needs to know speed and RPM which it has. Then you just teach the gauge what gear corresponds to what RPM. No need for wires, and it works on every bike.

    Hey :) can I install this instrument on my 04 Suzuki GS500F?

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  5 лет назад +1

      Should be no problem. The best test is disconnecting the stock gauge and seeing if the bike runs. If you can run the bike without the stock gauge, then installing a motogadget gauge should be straight forward.

    another great video.. I was thinking if you need the BREAKOUT BOX if you're installing a M-UNIT BLUE?

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  6 лет назад

      There is no need to use the breakout box unless you are also installing the motoscope pro. The m-Unit blue will work fine on its own, but if you are adding the motoscope pro, the breakout box is the way you get all the indicator lights and extra stuff connected.

      Yeah I mean, i do have a m-unit blue V-2 with an m-button, this already uses a Bus connection type.
      Could I use it for connection to the motoscope pro in order to give turning signal connection, lights and high beams display?
      Thanks in advance.

      @@RevivalCycles Hey guys. We have fitted lots of motogadget m.units basic & blue, but we have just fitted the first motoscope pro & break out box. We've done everything as per the instructions, but when we go through the system set up, when it get to the 'bob' in SYSTEM, the value is 00.00. On your video it is 3.71. Do you think we have a problem with the break out box or is there another way we should be able to see the values? Main problem is we cannot see the indicator or high beam lights on the motoscope when they are activated. Hope you have some insights. All the best, Daniel, mono motorcycles, UK

    can it be fitted to victory hammer?

    • @RevivalCycles
      @RevivalCycles  6 лет назад

      The best answer we can give is "maybe". But if you want to find out more definitively you can do a quick test on your bike. Disconnect the stock gauge and try to start the bike. If it starts with the gauge disconnected then this will work. If not, then you may need to see if anyone makes a module for your specific bike.
