Well done for battling on in the rain and introducing us to the fact that you can buy 'one use umbrellas'! I never knew. It's a shame it doesn't tolerate splashes etc but I guess there has to be a pay off from a little thing that does so much.

You're like the Gene Kelly of RUclips: Vlogging in the rain! It's interesting it gives a 3D kind of look to the vlog because the umbrella is like a layer to the background. I'm sure it was a pain to do so I'm glad it turned out well. I think you're one of the few doing -2 noise reduction so I'm curious about trying that myself. If I need noise reduction, I can add it in post.

Hello again James, nice review! For my third trip to London (from Toronto) hopefully in the Autumn, I had originally planned to bring my Sony a7C, which I think may be similar to your a7III in some ways. But that decision was made 'before' I bought the Pocket 3! The only thing I regret is having bought four of five SD cards just for the a7C months ago, for that trip. But the thought of bringing the Pocket 3 (over the heavier, bulkier a7C, along with a Weebill S gimbal, batteries and so on) makes things so much easier, lighter and convenient. Oh yeah, and not having to adjust the Weebill gimbal, balancing everything just right, like you mentioned, and so on- so nice! I used to try and make it fun, like some sort of a challenge!
Regarding not being so noticed with the camera, I saw something in a video where somebody showed (that by using the Pocket 3 in the 'tilt locked' position, and holding it horizontally), that it was less noticeable. I found that by doing that, plus not using a selfie stick, and sort of cupping the Pocket 3 in my hand (again, horizontally, whilst the camera pointed straight ahead) that people may have even thought I was just looking at some sort of phone! In fact, when I encountered people, no one seemed to notice it at all! Mind you, not sure the gimbal worked quite as well that way, (instead of vertically and with a selfie stick) but walking slower seemed to help.
One question James... I've been using Auto too, and just fiddling about with the EV, when you swipe it from the right side of the screen, experimenting a bit. But everybody in most of these reviews all say to put the Sharpness at -2. I don't really notice a lot of difference from medium sharpness. Do you change the sharpness setting? Thanks!
hey man! yeah not carrying all the bulky equipment round and having to set it up is a game changer! great point u make about holding the pocket 3 faced down to attract less attention, it’s actually something I bought up in my previous video but for a completely different topic. when I first started filming with it I never used to have it attached to a selfie stick all the time and found that cupping it in ur hand really did essentially make it vanish, I only attach it to a stick now as the stick I use has tripod legs so when I’m filming videos like this I’m able to quickly put it down if I needed to show something in the shot. in regards to the sharpness, I have mine pretty much always set to -2, the difference isn’t massive vs -1 but in some situations if I’m being super picky I can slightly see a difference (or at least I tell myself I can 😂) if u can’t see that much of a difference I honestly wouldn’t stress about it, just set it in the middle and you’ll be good 👍🏾
The OP3's biggest design flaw is the case. I hope DJI learns the lesson of functional practicality over useless minimalist design. And the OP3's Auto mode is really good. Although I use Pro mode, but, Auto mode works very well.
does ur case leave marks on the side of p3 as well? it’s so annoying!
@@james.loxton No because I don't use it. 😁, I used it half a dozen times and got upset, I can't be quick enough to take it off, I use an Osmo Mobile gimbal bag or it just goes in the front pocket of the jacket without special protection, I ordered two protections on Ebay and I'm still I'm waiting for them, I'll probably receive them next week. One for the full body and one for the screen and gimbal. I hope they adapt well OP3. Sometimes I have to use it quickly and the original case doesn't serve the purpose.

So good James😀. Found this video brilliant. Informative,consise , natural and funny. I think a umbrella is going to be an essential accessory for you James especially in London. Those pastries are called Portuguese Tarts,by the way what a miserable get he was that served you. I'm surprised he had the time to serve you. The glamour effect was freaky don't you think 😀. Now for the series things. You mentioned about the battery use. Do you know if the overheating issue has been solved. I saw a video from about 3 months ago when it first came out that it was getting to a temperature (think it was 48°)that was not allowed in Europe,so switched itself off. Just wandered if you had any issues with this.Ive got one on order and should be with me soon,that's why I ask . Anyway great videos,look forward to your next.👍🤘
thanks man 😎 glad u liked it! and oh yes, u are right, that umbrella won’t be going anywhere anytime soon apart from up in my hand 😂 ah okay, thanks for the info! i had never tried it before but will defo be having it again! so with the overheating, I personally haven’t had any issues with it cutting out due to overheating apart from a couple of times when I first got it and I was doing some tests with it for another video to see how long I could continuously record until it stopped recording due to overheating, both tests were inside at about 21 degrees and I got 50 mins 4k at 25fps and 16 mins 4k at 60fps. When I did the same test outside (11 degrees) it didn’t cut out due to overheating. Like I said, I haven’t had any issues with it cutting out since those test but I haven’t really been in a warm environment filming with it as most of my videos are shot outside and obviously London isn’t that hot 😂 I’ve seen a couple of things floating around about transferring something onto ur sd card to bypass the Europe overheating regulation rule so may be worth u having a search for that! ur gonna love it when u finally receive it! good luck with it all mate 😎

Thanks for the video. I would have loved to see Lisbon on a "not-raining" day. But what can you do? I've had my pocket 3 about 3 months now, and about the battery booster, I don't think many people understand that it was meant to be a power bank. It's a refill for the main on-board battery. Once it renders the juice to big daddy, it should be removed, and recharged. I too am annoyed that dJi did not make the batteries interchangeable. I'm concerned that the main battery will stop holding a charge, and then where are you? Has anyone found out if you can have THAT battery replaced? Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. yeah the rain was shame but some of my previous videos I shot there it was nice and sunny so maybe check them out 😎 in terms of the battery handle, I totally get that it’s a top up for the main battery but it’s annoying that when it runs out of charge and a mic receiver is connected, the receiver isn’t connected anymore. it clearly doesn’t need to have any power cos the adapter that u attached for the 1/4 inch screw hole doesn’t have any power to it and it works fine 🤷🏽♂️
I would device a contraption to attach the Pocket 3 to the umbrella rod. It will be more stealthy/not attract attention in public

Hi can I ask on auto mode do you have your E.V on 0.0 or you go slightly under like 0.3? Or is that too dark? Thank you
so it really depends on how white and bright it is on the day but more times then not I float between -0.3 and -0.7 and sometimes I don’t even bother adjusting it tbh, I find it struggles mainly when the sky is overcast and is essentially just white, that’s usually when I’ll turn it down slightly, I’ve gone down to -1.0 a couple of times but like I said, most of the time it’s either -0.3 or -0.7
Not sure how it is in the UK, but in the US we can purchase accident protection from DJI for $55. Up to two replacements per year. I’m just going to buy that and use mine in the mist and snow.

Did you do any editing in post? Anything on the sound? I assume this is on the DJI Mic 2. Noise canceling on or off? I just got the Ace Pro & returning it because I always look out of focus.
apart from adjusting the exposure and highlights slightly and adding a tiny vignette around the corners nothing else has been adjusted, literally straight out the camera. the audio is from the DJI mic 1 (the original) which I’ve adjusted the EQ levelling slightly and added a filter… ah yeah, I know what u mean with the focusing issues with the ace pro, it’s a shame cos it’s a great little camera
@@james.loxton How's the focus on the Pocket 3 without the selfie stick? Agree about the ace pro. It's a beautiful camera build, but that focus issue ruins it. Why use the DJI Mic 1 and now the Mic 2? I have the Mic 1 already. Returned the Mic 2 for sound quality issued. 2 sets had weird artifacting.
I haven’t had any focusing issues with the pocket 3 tbh. I use the mic 1 as I prefer the sound over the mic 2. the mic 2 is very convenient as u don’t need to plug anything in ect but I don’t mind doing that with the mic 1 if the overall sound is better
@@james.loxton If you have time, it would be cool to see a comparison of the Mic 2 Vs. Mic 1 in a video. I've been considering getting the Pocket 3. Currently testing the Ace Pro. My big issue has been the min focusing distance and low light performance. It's ok, but not great. I think the Pocket 3 may be better, but for sure more pricey.

Do you use low light mode in low light situations? Or just video mode , normal color and auto exposure
it really depends on how dark it is/what lighting is around… I have found that auto mode (in normal video mode) does a really good job most of the time especially when shooting outside in a city at night, I change it to manual mode when I want it to look a bit more cinematic and I’ll use low light mode when it’s really dark and I can see it’s struggling

thanks 😎 I would say the pocket 3 as u can see yourself on the screen when vlogging which helps out a lot! U could get a slightly larger FOV by holding it out further away from ur face (in this video i held it very close to my face to keep it under the umbrella) but u could always use the wide angle lens if u wanted an even larger FOV as well. It would also be great for interview type shots
Just saw there's a new firmware update with some new features. one being if you are recording something & it's no good, you can hold down record & delete it directly, plus some audio fixes

@@james.loxton Yeah! I bought the osmo pocket 1 when it first came out & now have the pocket 3. One of the reasons being that DJI seem to listen to their customers & add new features in firmware updates quite often. Great vids you make BTW. the "60 tips" one helped me a lot, cheers!

are you using face track in the videos, seems like you aren't because the gimbal isn't moving around with every movement of your head like it does in other creator videos. i absolutely HATE how twitchy the gimbal is in FT mode.
apart from the bit of me talking about it, face track was turned off for the same reasons u mention, it’s a bit too jittery sometimes so like I said it would be great to be able to adjust the sensitivity of it
