When Martha Reeves goes on record saying you're one of the greatest singers she ever heard, praise doesn't get much higher, and she said that about Dusty Springfield.
She kicked the door for every Blue Eyed Soul Singer out there. Amy Winehouse (RIP), Duffy, Adele, Natasha Bedingfield. Even Nadine Coyle formerly of Girls Aloud and Ruthanne.
One of Dusty's finest ever live TV vocals and it's not surprising - she must have been in heaven to be backed by American soul musicians of this calibre, and she her appreciation by delivering an electrifying performance. Pity about the dancers, who look as if they've been beamed in from a bad production of West Side Story, but you can't have everything.
I think what hits me most is Dear Dusty singing her heart out and just enjoying it so much. I think she took so much pure pleasure singing in the early and mid 60's . Bless her!
Love how she's just belting away with Martha + the Vandellas as her backing vocals like its nothing! 😆 That says something about how big a star she must have been at the time, and her level of talent that they were happy to do that for her (and vice versa).
Dusty Springfield is widely considered to be one of the greatest British female singers of the 20th century and this performance certainly lends credibility to that. Her vocal range, stage presence, sense of style, and charm won her audiences all over the world. A remarkable talent who is sadly no longer with us but your legacy lives on.
Martha and the Vandellas sound damn good backing up Dusty on this one. Martha and the Vandellas really click well with Dusty. Dusty should have done an album with Martha and the Vandellas.
Love Dusty. One of the true greats. Loved all her music also but this performance shows how much her record label controlled her. Working with the Great Vandellas and the Motown crew allowed her to absolutely cut loose and belt it out. If she were allowed to do performances like this more often it would have shown the world as awesome as she was, just how awesome she really was. Thank you to the whole Motown crew.

I don’t believe the musicians are playing live but rather this is a pre-recorded track likely done at Hitsville before the tour. The guys are pretending to play. It’s possible that is Jamerson we’re hearing.
Only Dusty was good enough to sing with the Motown crew. The UK's greatest female singer.
👍👍
Yes, "Ole Black Eyes' (her panda makeup) was a VERY good. Check out "In the Middle of Nowhere".
Dusty ALWAYS sang live exept once on "Top of the Pops".

And Aretha Franklin was a massive admirer too !
Dusty was the UK's greatest singer. She was the only White singer one who could sing Soul like this. We should be very proud of her.
A Carole King song performed well by England's finest female vocalist!
England had several great female vocalists. Lulu was amazing.
@@Gazolba lulu was and still is overrated,
Englands finest meets America's finest - a perfect combination!
She kicked the door for every Blue Eyed Soul Singer out there. Amy Winehouse (RIP), Duffy, Adele, Natasha Bedingfield. Even Nadine Coyle formerly of Girls Aloud and Ruthanne.
Dusty backed by the Funk brothers and the vandellas, it doesn't get any better. Fantastic tune as well.
What a fabulous show our dusty just slotted in shows how brilliant she was

ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME
This was so good, Martha has always said good thing about Dusty.
Love how she's just belting away with Martha + the Vandellas as her backing vocals like its nothing! 😆

There was much mutual respect between them, aside from the fact Martha Reeves was always lusted on by bi-women. No secret.
❤❤❤ Martha and Dusty are a gem

Definitely the greatest.
You didn't need "British".
British? Pish. Dusty was one of the finest singers EVER, in any country.
Brilliant performance
I have always adored Dusty. It's just a matter of time before her legacy is revived in pop culture. And she will have deserved every minute of it.
She loved singing this soulful stuff. You can see. Before she got caught up in all the big ballady stuff.
I can’t stop returning to watch this miraculous performance!

What a voice!
I love this performance so much... Lovely Dusty, great song
I never tire of watching this performance or listening to it in audio form. Everything was perfect!
Dusty found her true musical home in soul, not the juvenilia country with the Springfields. Brilliant here. X
Is Queen Dusty, no more to say!
This was unbelievable

She did a lot of Motown stuff on her show in the 60s, it was Dusty that invited the motown crew over for this special in 65
She was awesome. Ready for the movie if her life
Everything about this song suited her perfectly. The greatest.
The Funk Brothers could turn ANYBODYS music into THE MOTOWN SOUND!
They were The Best!
Betty Everett did this tune. Her version is awesome but this is also awesome. Wish I could sing like either.
You Go Girl...!!!!
Dans tout les styles elle est superbe
Fabulous The Motown Sound !
Dustygasm - she's so wonderful, perfect performance as always.
It's astonishing to learn that she was just 5' 3" and 112 lbs. She seems six feet tall!
Awesome strong Motown style vocal out of Dusty.
Just terrific all together.
Really love This...Dusty puts so much energy in it, fantastic!!🌹💞🌹
What a surprise ...never new Dusty did this sort of number!
She was made to do this kind of music
So, you just know the ballads?
The RSG footage is priceless. It's thrilling to watch considering the production mantra seemed to be "fly by the seat of your pants" .
Love the Vandella's hand jive
I love the Vandellas hand jive too. It's so deliciously old school. Also love the way the Vandellas clap on the off beat.
Loving this song Darren and especially in this performance!!!,
Just Great
Those were (and they 're )talented singers indeed but also orchestra was good
Exciting stuff
Miss o Brian springfield Iriish blood🙂
Late dusty springfield was really beautiful with that hairdo and dress

Une qualité de Dusty c'est de tout chanter
Who says white people don't have rhythm?

Yes, the Vandellas could sing anything.
The ready stedy go motown series (never released in America
She could sing rock and pop too
Dusty Springfield crawled and walked so that Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, and Adele could run.
Awesome!
