It doesn't have the slack it used to but really hard to tell the difference. I am just glad it works! Yay, at last something i put back together works!!
If you look at my channel you can see the video i did of pulling it apart. It is quite tricky but with a bit of wiggling and trying different angles you can get it off. Have to take the bonnet off and i think even the batery housing out. This link might work to the other video, you might have to google it. ruclips.net/video/kWJaBVFkans/видео.html
Hi! How did you get the old steering box out? My dad is trying to change the box, but the problem is that it will not come out. I have tried to use Google for instructions, but no luck with that so far.
So does any lubricant go in the steering box itself? Like gear oil or something like that? I have an old 135 UK that I use often, and the steering has become very stiff lately. I'm starting to wonder about wear in there. Thanks.
+Redlinesixtynine Yes you need a 90 grade gear oil from memory. Only takes a cup or so. There is a little plug on top you put the oil in and a little plug on the side that overflows when full. I had a massey 65 and the steering came really stiff, it turned out being the bearing inside the steering box had lost it's ball bearings. You could jack the front wheels off the ground and turn the steering wheel and that will help you narrow down what part might be causing you the trouble, it could be the bearings in the front axle. You can buy kits with the bushes and bearings to fix it.
+Redlinesixtynine That's a good point, I had a look at mine today and there doesn't seem to be an overflow plug. Must just fill it up. Wouldn't hurt it to be quite full but it will seep out the bushes where the steering arms come out.
+Redlinesixtynine I wouldn't simply because I would worry if it dried out it would have to be stripped and cleaned. But having said that I have a gearbox with a worm drive that works hard, the previous owner mixed gear oil with grease into a slurry and filled the gearbox with it. That gearbox is like new inside and my other two are worn badly. I don't know the hours any of them have done but it certainly isn't do any harm having grease in there.
Great video. Interesting to see the redesign using the ball bearing on one side. Keep up the good work.

Does it steer any better than before?

So one of those bolts that holds the side plate on, is a oil level plug?

What about using some kind of grease? I read somewhere that they use some kind of "green" corn header grease in there too. Thoughts?
