I’m 71 (seventy-one) now and your video just took me back about forty+ years when, in my youth, I hiked Angels Landing! It was long before shuttles and the tourist amenities and safety precautions in place today. While I made that trip alone, I did not hike the trail in the dark as you brave guys did!!! Congrats on your beautiful video and appreciation for taking me back to those wonderful times!! Such a magnificent environment! Folks need to share it but please respect it!
Angel's Landing is by far my favorite hike I have been on. I am from the east coast and hike mostly around the Appalachian Trail and there is truly nothing comparable. Not as scary as it looks as long as you are careful and don't do anything dumb.
This is awesome, really awesome. In 1 month I'll be 18 and I think I want to travel solo, and have memories like this. I just need to learn how to do this things, how to travel in security and just enjoying the life. In my opinion those are the greatest memories to make in our lives
I’m at Zion right now:) I hiked Angels Landing 7 years ago and it was the best hike of my life. But, never again! I still don’t know how I did it with my fear of heights 🙈
When that first light hit and I saw what you were looking at!!! The drive thru the tunnel with the windows in the side of the cliff....I started to tear up....again!! The family and myself went there in early June this year. We are from Cincinnati, the second to last window had the best picture of God's handy work, when we looked out!! After we came out of the tunnel, we stopped at the pull off looking straight back to the cliff you were on, and my wife and i just started tearing up. The kids were like, why are you guys crying??? I guess at 17 and 7, they don't quite realize the beauty of this planet!! This was the first time we had been there. We came up from the north rim of the grand canyon, and my opinion, Zion was better, hands down. We didn't hike much at all, but being in that area with all the beautiful scenery, blew my effing mind!! We will be returning as soon as we can!!! For sure!! Utah is definitely the most beautiful state I have been in!!! Long live the Patriarchs!!
Zion is my absolute favorite of all the national parks. Although I could not physically do the climbing I’m glad you showed it to us in this video. Viva Zion !!! 👍😇
Five years ago i was at grand canyon, up to this day i still have this unexplainable feeling the first time i saw the beauty of that park so beautiful it takes away all my sad memories in life…this video brings back that feeling of peace and happiness.
Wow! Another great adventure. The climb to the top is a bit scary and dangerous but the result is amazing. Makes me wish I were young again. I want to try the pie, never heard of it before. The rattlesnake message is very good. Always keep safe and ENJOY.
Just spent an amazing week in Zion last week for my birthday! We didn’t hike angels landing but we did a couple miles in on the narrows and other trails in Zion! It was magical. I definitely wanna go back and take on the angels landing hike. Sheeesh need to get my cardio up for that one!
Thank you for getting up so early so that I can enjoy the swirling stars and the sunrise. And, as usual, thanks for taking us along to the restaurants you visit. It's always fun to watch how much joy you get out of eating.
Thanks for watching Jim! It was a battle getting up that early, but it was definitely worth it! The footage never does it justice, but hopefully inspires others to experience it!
@@GarethLeonard ... Gosh Gareth, can you imagine the experience from the top in those wing suits, birdman suits, gliding through the Zion Park Angels Landing mountains.
Absolutely beautiful!! What a gorgeous hike! And that time lapse... WOW!!😍 I just finished 3 days of hiking in Arches, haven't been to Zion in years. This one is definitely on my list though! LOVED your video!❤
I'm heading to Zion in a few months and trying to build up the courage to get to the top of Angel's Landing. I have a fear of heights, and just watching your video gets my heart racing. Clearly the payoff at the top is amazing. But wow, how do they keep that trail open to the general public?!
I did it last 2021, my son recommended it I had no idea about it because I wanted to be a surprise and I was very pleasantly surprised. I had never hiked before, I’m from Miami Fl and that was my first solo car camping trip. It was so wonderful I now love watching others videos because my video wasn’t as good as these youtubers.
Happy to hear the heavy breathing. I hiked 5 miles of Red Canyon in the Dixie National Forest a few weeks ago and have never felt so out of shape in my life. haha.
Hi from Melbourne, Australia! Angels Landing is my favourite hike in the world!!! You have the BEST National Parks ever! Can't wait to be able to travel to the US again, until then I love traveling vicariously with you!! Maybe you can visit Moab.... Arches & Canyonlands are amazing! Thanks Gareth, keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching Sharyn! I completely agree, Angel's Landing instantly went up to the top of my best hikes list! I definitely want to do other parks in the area soon!
I've climbed Angel's Landing once with my son and nephew, but looking at you do it gives me another perspective as to how scary that last half mile is. I'm happy we did it though. It was fun!
OMGGG THIS IS JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! You are my other half when it comes to the appreciation of nature and your love for the majestic planet we live on. You would be the one to go to the moon 🌙 once those flights are running smoothly. lol
when you fill-in the music towards the last climb, it was breath-taking. As the music progress and your breath sounding the excitement of your climb, my emotions gets intense. Then it gets more intense and intense...then the music stop...and then..a...CROWD! heheheh! As always, an awesome vlog. Thanks Gareth.
Nice! Sunset time is truly the best time to go up angels landing as a lot of day trippers/families would’ve already left and no traffic going UP. I assume this was not winter time though? It’s probably covered in snow and super cold and slippery at this time of the year.
I’ve gone up to Angels Landing! And watching you guys go up there just made me smile ! It’s just beautiful! But I definitely want to go back and rent those bikes that looks sooo fun !
What an amazing experience at Zion National Park. Thanks to your videos we were able to plan a day there. We also did Bryce and The Creamery (coconut castaway) was the best.
@2:00 awesome timelapse! @9:09 oceanspray meme reference. hey, great video Gareth! this one had all the right music of adventure, the feels, sense of accomplishment ending. no blooper needed for this one, although I love seeing behind the scenes stuff. keep the suspense for next week's video! thanks! ~
Breathtaking! I sincerely want to thank you for these gorgeous hikes, Gareth. The view is amazing. The curvy rock formations, the river snaking though it, the layers of rock that conveniently serve as ladders...it's all so gorgeous! Miss the bloopers, but the time-lapse more than made up for it. Stunning!
Nice! I'd be thrilled if that's a legit job offer. I am a starving copy editor/writer after all. In any case, awesome video as always. I love me some bloopers though. Cheers!
OMG 😱......❤️❤️❤️ the video, the sun coming up over Zion Canyon, awesome photography of this magical place we are only a 45-minute drive from. But....the pie, I HAVE to make SURE I stop in Springdale for Bumbleberry Pie & Ice Cream!!!!!!😋😋😋😋
Thanks for the awesome videos of Zion. We were there last month and did the easy hikes. Do to our age (70's +) we will never do the ones you showed us but I feel like I did just watching. Excellent. Thanks for sharing the marvels of Zion.
Hands down my favorite hike of all time - Angel's Landing. Those switchbacks will crush your legs but it's so worth it. The stretch up to the top is a little intense with the chains but really not horrible. Worst part is when you have to skirt around people in a narrow section. That can get a little dicey so try to go early or late in the day.
I loved that hike. I dashed up to see it at sunset. And it was freaky seeing people inly headed the other way down. And sunset was beautiful, but you’re also thinking about how you’re going back that ridge you just walked, kinda terrified, and how there were places on a thrust of rock only ten feet wide where you somehow couldn’t figure out where the path was. And every extra moment you took in the sunset meant it would be a little darker and a little more uncertain. It did put the awe in awesome.
Zion is my favorite national park that I’ve ever been to. Better than the Gand Canyon and Bryce Canyon combined . I only got to spend one day at Zion. I hope to be back soon!
Yeah going down hill in the dark will be fun. haha. Gary this was epic. Another amazing video in your collection. As far as content goes you have it down pat. I don't know of anyone else on youtube that rivals you on content. Kudos to you!!

I think I could do that hike all the way till the chains start, but think I am too chicken to do the last part. So grateful for people like you who want to document it for people like me LOL
my condolences :( definitely a dangerous hike! we did Observation Point via East Mesa Trail which is a summit that overlooks the same valley - and a few hundred feet above Angel's. A less risky hike with the same spectacular views!
We’ve been there once but didn’t have the courage to hike up Angel’s Landing. Definitely hope to hike it one day when my kids are grown or with people who has more courage than me 😄.
If you get a chance next time try going past scouts lookout and over to the west rim trail. Just a stunning hike up the cliff and onto the plateau. Views of the west side canyons are amazing.
Wear shoes w/ chunky cuts in the soles it'll help tremendously especially on the chains. Also be weary when handling the chains as there is slack that can rattle and cause you to not have a grasp of it when others grab it anxiously. Coming down is a breeze compared to going up, just be mindful people do it in small pacts going up/down. Also don't pack heavy or you will regret it on the switchbacks loll
I went to Zion in the first week of July of 2021 and oh boy I’m pretty sure I lost a few pounds of sweat as we didn’t start as early as we should have so the heat got up to 112 degrees but we managed and I’m a plus size girl and we did the Narrows hike and a few others but I was able to keep up granted I did have a neck fan and an ice cold large bottle of water but it was amazing! Thank you!! 🎉
Heading up for our first visit from Louisiana in July. As if I weren't excited enough already to see it, your amazing sunrise time lapse literally put stars in my eyes! Awesome video! Hope to get a cool sunrise myself. And hoping I can talk my wife into making it to the top of Angel's Landing! Thanks Gareth!
