A sequel was being worked on and was going to have at least two new characters. The game was more than halfway done way back in '02 but I think SNK went bankrupt around that time and the games been sitting in development hell ever since.
At least KOF has had Rock, Tizoc (and later his heel persona of King of Dinosaurs), B. Jenet, Gato, and Hotaru as playable characters, and Khushnood/Marco making cameos in endings around the Art of Fighting Team, with Ryo training him. We'd just be missing Kain, Grant, Dong, Jae, Kevin, and Freeman for all of Garou's original characters to show up in KOF.

Definitely one of the best looking fighting games! Sprite based graphics look so much better, I don't like poligonal graphics like in all the "new" games...

I mean he beat Terry in order to get that ending. He can do whatever he wants. The alternative is we get an Alex where you beat a guy then your ending shows you getting your ass kicked to a guy you might have perfected.
I'm not sure if they were trying to imply if it was Yamazaki or the "mystery man" (Gato's father) who busted up the gym, seeing as afaik Yamazaki wasnt part of the shown sprite set for the cancelled sequel

Tizoc/Griffon has a happy ending I think. He resolves to keep on fighting for the sake of the fans he still has
Tizoc's ending is most touching! but sadly he's one of the toughest characters to play with! I find his moves too hard
