I'm an intermediate CG artist but this helped me a lot! Very to the point. Never tried film width before. Great tutorial. Subbed

do you know if I can get similar textures with Arnold? I don't have Octane.

You can try it with Car Paint Shader by setting the IOR to around 6, to make it metallic, and plugging a Thin Film Shader with a Noise Shader controlling the Thickness of it. The next thing is to tweak the setting of the Thin Film Shader, you can crank up the thickness_min and thickness_max and adjust the value of ior_film to get the iridescent look. Lastly connect a Displacement map with a grunge texture attached to it, to get the grunge look. That way I’m sure you can get similar textures. If not pls let me know :)

@@Evelyn_CGI thank you so much Evelyn. That sounds promising. I'm totally new to nodes and of course, they seem a bit intimidating but I will give this a try. I really appreciate your help! :)

@@artkiko4460 I’m happy to help you 😊 It takes some time to get used to those nodes but it’s worth the time

@@Evelyn_CGI I GOT SOMETHING!! so I was able to connect the Thin Film and Noise shaders to the Car Paint one and I see some life. I'm excited. I'll tackle the Grunge next. So I see what's basically a rainbow gradient. Is there a way to eliminate some colors - so for instance, If I wanted to use just hot pink, Blue, Black and purple? I'm going for a dark, sci-fi look so I'd like to disable the yellow / green range. You're the best for getting me on track with this :) !

@@artkiko4460 That’s awesome!!! In that case I’d suggest using Gradient in stead of Thin Film, by connecting a ramp_rgb Node to the Flip-Flop Color of the Car Paint and changing the Type to u, and then changing the ramp to a gradient that contains the colors you want. That way you have more control over the result. If you wanna make it more fun, you can try changing the Light Facing color of the Specular to one of those colors, let’s say hot pink, to get a pink reflection under the light :)

If you wanna know how to set up this specific scene, you can check out my other video called “How to Create Gloomy Metallic Skull Render”. It has the exact same scene as the one in this video. And if you wanna know how to set up a scene with HDRI map, you can check out “Colorful Glass Node Material”. Hope those would be useful to you! If anything, please let me know :)
