This is such a magnificent tribute from Bob, and so appropriate that it was in Montreal. Leonard Cohen - gone, but very definitely not forgotten. Two of the greatest song writers of the second half of the 20th century/early 21st.

This song is about Auschwitz, where the Jews were marched towards the gas chambers under the sound of an orchestra of other Jewish inmates.
If you know this, all the words sound very, very different. (Dance me through the panic til I’m gathered safely in).
But, as it is Leonard Cohen, the lyrics mix the images of a Jewish wedding, and even sexual love with the most profound spiritual and biblical references. (Touch me with your naked hand, or touch me with your glove/let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone). This can be about a wedding (witnesses), but also about the Holocaust. The beauty is heaven, and the returning to God)
When you hear it, you can't un-hear it.
But anyhow: Bob is singing fine here.

    • @rb6338
      @rb6338 Год назад +5

I think Bob choose to sing that song and not another from Leonard intentionally.

@@GRZsonya Strangely enough, I think Bob Dylan himself hasn't made a specific song about the Holocaust. Or even specific wars, like Vietnam. He keeps it vague, but fine. Well, his song about the killing of JFK, murder most foul, mocking all the strange coincidences in Dallas. Still, I believe it just was Lee Harvey Oswald all alone, he was just a very stubborn and lonely narcissistic boy, wanting to prove himself to the world. But that's another story. Thanx for your comment at my comment.

@simpelman ~ beautifully written 🌹 I do believe you did make Leonard give one of his nodding grins. He had such a love of his heritage, and I cringe to think of how he would have reacted to the massacre of October 7th ... coming on one year Anniversary 😢💔 and they still have hostages. No, this is not the Time nor place for this discussion. We are honoring two great Legends. I take my hat off to both of them and most appreciative of their fine talent. 🌹🕊🌹🕊🌹🕊🙏

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Báilame muy tiernamente y báilame muy largo.
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
Ambos estamos debajo de nuestro amor, ambos estamos arriba
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Báilame a los niños que piden nacer.
Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Báilame hasta el final del amor.
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Tócame con tu mano desnuda o tócame con tu guante
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove

Dance me to the end of love

Bob Dylan makes it a Klezmer beautiful piece of uniqueness for ever❣️🌹🌺🎶💃🌞🎶🌹🌺 🎹
Lets not forget what Leonard had in mind when making the song…
    Achtergrond
    bewerken
