    3 things: 1)We gotta get you a decent shop grade 8 hardware starter assortment. 2) aren't the rusty SHCS bolts grade 8 by definition and stronger than the stainless you put in? 3) CRC chain lube spray is my go to. Comes out watery to clean and flush dirt then leaves behind a blue residue that clings. Great on other stuff in shop in place of spray white grease.

    I'm a old retired (Subaru) mechanic and enjoy your videos from Vancouver Island. CVT belts will shed rubber when new so it can form fit the pulleys of different housings. You might be able to use a bit of alcohol as a solvent to carry away the oils on the belt. Scrub it down for just a few minutes with a oil-free parts brush and wipe dry with a clean rag. Also, you can use "belt dressing" spray. It can make the rubber on the belt tackier. Or maybe find someone who has a sandblasting cabinet to roughen up the surfaces on the belt pullies where they come in contact with the rubber belt (giving the metal a gritty surface).

  • @georgegrierson
    @georgegrierson 3 года назад

    Cool helmet! One thing you might consider is getting a bicycle chain guard and altering it to fit your cart. The idea of using an old school chain guard on a bicycle was so that you wouldn't get your pants caught in the chain when you're pedaling, and keep you a bit cleaner. However it will also keep the oil from spraying onto the CVT. Years ago I had a CVT on a minibike that I owned, and the issue with it was that the governor on the engine was set so it wouldn't allow it to develop enough RPM so that the CVT would work properly.

  • @dalehunt1383

    Alignment of belt has a lot to do with longevity. A small increment out of alignment eats up belts. Heats them up and eats them. Learned this the hard way on snowmobile.

  • @gregvw123
    @gregvw123 3 года назад

    I'm part of the 'chains suck' camp. Belts are quieter and cleaner. If you can replace the chain final drive with an all belt system, that's what I would go with. Makes replacing the belt a total pain as you have to remove the axle, but - chains suck.

Shave the heads for more compression, maybe you can buy new heads. There is a lot of performance mods for that harbor freight motor. I had a very similar Emmick cart, it’s a great cart on asphalt. Smaller say 5 less teeth axel sprocket equals more top end speed. You are right about his taller rear tires.
    Make sure your CVT pulleys and chain are allined. Misaligned belts and chain will not only wear out parts prematurely but also rob power.

    There are aftermarket spring and weight kits for those 30 series cvt that can help em grip the belt a little better and restore the top end.

    Nice project! Does not look like a shifter kart frame. It could be a TAG frame. Shifters normally have disc brakes front and rear. Still plenty fast and fun!

    Paint the frame the blue color and paint the rims white! That's fire 🔥

    before you put the belt guard on, the CVT pulley attached to the motor looks like it's installed backwards. The sloped side should be facing the belt, not the flat side...

    Nice helmet!!! Use a bicycle dry lube on the chain. Mtn bikers use it in your part of the world. It doesn't fling oil all over the place.

    The powder blue and white combo is nice. Maybe a thin red stripe on the white parts you paint would help tie in your helmet colors to the go cart.

    Use a straight edge to align the cvt. Base of the non moving side should be in the same line. If not belt will go bad fast and slip.
