  • Glimpse a day in the life of orthopedic surgeons and patients as they overcome everything from broken bones and sports injuries to complex spine conditions. www.chop.edu/ortho
The Division of Orthopedics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia provides world-class care for the full range of pediatric orthopedic conditions, including scoliosis, hip dysplasia, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, club foot, patella tendon injury, spinal deformity, neuromuscular disease, cerebral palsy, Ewing sarcoma, osteosarcoma and other bone tumors, broken bones, concussion, sports injuries, syndactyly, femoroacetabular impingement and more.
This day in the life video follows our expert team of pediatric orthopedic surgeons and researchers - including Jack Flynn, Wudbhav Sankar, Kristy Weber, Lawrence Wells, Robert Campbell, Ted Ganley, Maurizio Pacifici, Naomi Brown, David Horn and Benjamin Chang.
The orthopedics team offers patients and families a host of nonsurgical treatments like casting and fitting for prosthetic limbs as well as complex surgical options, including pelvic osteotomy, open hip reduction, periacetabular osteotomy, posterior spinal fusion, bilateral adductor lengthening, vertical expandable titanium rib (VEPTR), growing rods, ACL reconstruction, surgical arthroscopy, bone tumor removal, limb sparing surgery, syndactyly repair, surgical dislocation of the hip, and more.

I was in a car accident when I was 21(I am 25 now) my pelvis was crushed, and my legs were broken. I experienced some other injuries as well(collapsed lung and such) everyone was telling me I wouldn't live and if I did I would never walk again. Dr. Webb changed my life and touched my heart, he performed very clean surgeries and a year later I was walking and now I am running 3x a week. I was so inspired by this man that I am on my way to becoming an orthopedist myself:) It's a hard long road, but to be able to give that freedom back to other people I believe is my way to pay it back forward

He's a really good doctor. He did the Veptr rod installation on me, and (I think) two lengthenings for the rods. He's an amazing surgeon, I barely lost any blood all times he touched me.

I want to be a surgeon, I'm graduating very soon. When I was born I was born with bad lungs and had many lung surgeries. I now only live with one lung, and can't thank my surgeon enough; not for saving me, but for also helping me know what I want to do in my future! I need to figure out what kind of surgeon I'd like to be, but I know for sure I want to save lives

Yes, CHOP is amazing. Doctor Jack Flynn operated on my spine about 3 times. The first was the Veptr rod expansion for my scoliosis, and the last two were lengthenings. I barely lost any blood all three times. The staff is amazing, they all do perfect!

It's up to you bro. I recommend doing some work experience at a hospital to really get a feel for it and also during med school you will learn the different specialities in medicine and that will help you decide! Who knows by the end of it you could be an ophthalmologist haha
