I enjoyed this episode of What are the best metal detector headphones and choosing the right headphones to help you find gold. I've read your book and discovered it to be a treasure trove of information that can be used for reference for the rest of my life.
Chris its funny about ten or twelve years ago I was at a GPAA gold show and was sitting in on a talk being given by Kevin Hogland and he spoke about a prospector new to metal detecting having bought a new detector that didn't work. He returned to the dealer and complained about the detector not working . The dealer who was experienced tested the detector and found the condition normal. You guessed it the customer was deaf to the detector tone. (seems this customer must still be getting around !!!) the point is Kevin had a part number from Radio shack for a box that plugs into the audio jack and can shift the tone of the output. Radio shack is long gone and I have been looking for a replacement ever since. This is not a tone or volume control but actually shifts the tone to change its pitch. Thanks for the Video Jim.
I don't know where to buy such a thing, but these days a number of newer detectors have this tone change as an adjustment. I've heard Kevin tell the same story. This next Saturday's video on my channel is a talk about coils between me and Kevin.
Very informative. Headphones are must out here in the desert because of the wind. Rarely is a calm day where you remove them. Besides, the speaker on my GB 2 is not the greatest. Thanks for putting this video together Chris ! 👍👍👍
Hi Chris, all your videos are very educational. Here in the desert southwest (Quartzsite area) I prefer no headphones. I like to be aware of sounds around me. I have seen snakes, scorpions, coyotes, & cats when out prospecting. I'd prefer to hear them & avoid them. Oh yeah, there is the possibility of "2 legged snakes" in some areas.
Good info. Personally I like good quality earbuds, they use very little battery, very portable, wired or wireless, and I use a hair clip around my shirt collar to hold the wires or keep in my pocket untangled, they block out ambient noise almost as well as earplugs, maybe as well as HQ detectorist headphones, IDK.
@@ChrisRalphThey work well for me, have used them for years jogging or at work under windy conditions in construction. I would think they would work better than a large pair of headphones given less surface area for the wind to catch on, but I honesty don't even own a good pair of detectorist outdoor headphones.
hi. i hope you can come here in the Philippines.. we have spots here not just for nuggets but for Yamashita. i wish i could take you for a tour. Thanks for your uploads btw.. i have learned so much from you..
chris im just gettin my equipment gathered up to do this. been watchin many vids...but im dam glad i found you. bought your book and have subscibed. going to black pine mine area....wanna go?
Mr Chris. Could you please possibly do a video on Colorado. I’m doing a lot of research myself, and about to take a swing at my fortune with gold and other minerals.I would definitely love and treasure your professional knowledge with Colorado gold if you have any. Thank you much for all your other knowledge you share with the world.
Everyone wants hints they could use on the gold that is in their own backyard. The problem is that people in other states are not interested in your backyard - they want one on THEIR backyard. So the videos I have done is this series of "Where to find gold in (Some state)" - are not all that popular. That said, I have done very little prospecting in Colorado and have little to contribute based on my own experience - just the same knowledge you would get studying the history and old geologic reports.
I have watched the Platinum ore video and I live in Trinity County and have seen the Serpentine rock from the road. Ten hacks was useful as well since there are so many road cuts. Thanks. Please reply.
Good day Chris. My name is Bornvictor Banda from Zambia Southern Africa. Last time I was watching your video where you explained places where gold metals are found. In my land, I have Alot of green stones and white quartz. And I also have Alot of different types of colored stones and it's the whole land. Could it be possible I have gold in my land? Please I need to know so that I can buy a detector. The other thing is, what type of a Detector should I use between gpx 5000 and gpx 6000? Which one is good for a beginner like me? I am more interested to start mining so that I can support my orphanage
Get a gold pan as it is MUCH cheaper and you can test your soils with that. If you do not have gold the pan will only cost a few dollars - but a metal detector costs hundreds of dollars.
Hello I have a ? .I found what looks like gold omg so much of it ! It's heavy I got a bucket full but it breaks and it's whith alot of quarts rocks. What else could it be if not gold or pyrite

Thanks for watching. Will you be at the Pomona GPAA show?
Yes, I plan to be there. Considering a booth for the Gold Rattler. We'll see. 👍
Great - I will see you there!

I understand, but you need to know you are giving up the faintest targets (a good percentage of which are gold) in order to be headphone free.
Very well described. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!

Wonder how they work in noisy, windy conditions outdoors.

I have used to the wire headphones for 50 years and not sure if I want to change to wireless now. Thanks for the info…….
Wired headphones work and I use them frequently.

I am replying.
Thanks. I tried to send a picture but there is a no reply comment. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Sorry. I get so many requests I cannot offer a service to ID pictures. Take a look at my video on how to identify minerals for yourself.
Thank you Sir.👍
Most welcome
Wondering if any of the older detectors out there used mono headphone sockets and might need mono/stereo adapters to use with modern headphones?
I'm not really sure as nearly all metal detectors have been made stereo for a long time.
