  • In this video we are flushing the transmission in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8. This is the automatic transmission in the BK2 genesis. Same should apply to the BK1 automatic and the 2.0 of both models. Fluid for the 8 speed auto in the BK2 is SP-IV-RR. This is the how to, to help others flush their transmission fluid. We show how we did the flush, and how to check the fluid and fill it.

    Interesting. You removed the "Level" drain plug and got a ton of fluid before removing the "Drain" plug. I thought the purpose of the level plug was to show if barely any fluid is coming out the transmission is properly serviced...similar to servicing the differential.

    One thing this video forgets to mention. Is that the trans oil filter is molded into the oil pan. So the proper procedure would require an oil pan change too

    The reason for opening the fill plug first is, if u drain the trans before u take out the fill plug. And the fill plug won’t come out. How are u gonna fill the trans?

    I have a 2015 Hyundai genesis coupe I got with very low mileage last year for a really good deal. Its a nice quick car and with some basic mods it can go from 0 to 60 in the 4 second range compared to the factory 5 second range. The only major complaint I have for this car was the automatic transmission feels laggy. My advice is go for the manual ones

    • @mark883nm
      @mark883nm 3 года назад +1

      aye, managed a 4.8 0-100km/h so guess 0-60mph could be aroun 4.6 at best. Yes the auto is slightly "laggy" mostly on downshifts, but it mostly becouse of the map on the tcu that is conservative.

    • @NyCall4PRiNCE
      @NyCall4PRiNCE Год назад

      Get you a TCU tune. My shifts feel way more responsive. From factory it’s not the quickest shifts, mine wasn’t that laggy tbh but i still feel a big difference with the tune.

    What is the level plug for? You're filling it up with ATF and checking it's overflowing at the fill plug.

      Level plug shows you the level on the fluid but you have to keep filling it comes out of the fill plug. You open both drain and level plug to get out most of the fluid.

    Should I flush or change my transmission fluid? I got my 2015 Genesis G80 3.8 a little under 100k, and never asked if the previous owner changed the fluid prior. Now I'm at 116k (drives fine), and never flushed or changed it. What should I do? I don't want to damaged the transmission doing so.

    • @itsben8156

      Definitely drain and fill, a flush on these cars destroys the transmission because of the very narrow passages on this transmission.

    I was changing my transmission oil on my genesis , same exact year and transmission, it wouldn’t give any oil back from the fill , but when I opened the level plug, a bunch started coming out .. what do you think could be the reason ?

    • @JustRandomCars
      @JustRandomCars  4 года назад +2

      It probably needs more transmission fluid. Did you measure how much fluid came out originally. You fill it using the fill bolt til it starts dripping. If it does not drip then you will need to keep pumping. If the level bolt is full then you start up the car get it to operating temp and check the level, if fluid comes out then it is full, if it does not then the transmission needs more fluid.

      @@JustRandomCars changing the oil and leaving a filthy filter in is bad idea, the filter is loaded with debris from clutch wear and metal from gea wear, this contaminates the new oil plus reduces oil flow and increase pressure on the pump. How can i tell if my transmission fluid is low? How do i check?

    • @JustRandomCars
      @JustRandomCars  4 года назад +4

      The only way to check is to lift the car on a hoist and having the engine running with the car in neutral and parking brake engaged. You would open up the level plug and see if fluid comes out. The genesis don't have a dipstick for the transmission. If you have a leak then the fluid will be low otherwise they are a sealed unit and the fluid does not go low.
