I lived there my whole life basically so I really don't appreciate you downing Steubenville. It was not like that at one point and I'm sure where you live isn't much prettier either. Just better for a person to downgrade another town other than there own.
At least one of those young men giving witness statements knew this assault on an unresponsive girl was wrong and could have stopped it with a single phone call. The desire to be part of the popular crowd and the fear of losing that popularity shouldn't be so strong that it trumps being a decent human being and doing the right thing. As for the guy who invited her...an underage girl who liked him would be easy to persuade to keep drinking because she wanted to please him. She was invited so that she could be an unwitting party favor for Trent and friends and her total unawareness of what he intended just made it that much more fun for him and those who participated directly or indirectly by sharing the video. The thing that troubles me most is that this is NOT an isolated instance. This kind of thing happens a lot. All over this country, in towns small and large, where the common denominator is hero worship of athletes. Sometimes the victim is even younger. Sometimes the victim is physically or mentally handicapped. The common thread is vulnerability. This boils down to the strongest and most privileged feeling they have the absolute right to prey on the weakest and least privileged.

Seriously America, bring you're kids up properly 🇺🇸🙄
Jesus, in a juvenile detention center as well...at their age, they didn't have to do that. But by sending them there they will not have a criminal record following them, and guaranteed they didn't spend their entire time there. I'd like to know how much time they were actually in detention. Til the next football season perhaps?? Gotta protect the football! smfh. I truly hope the young woman in this is doing okay.
One year! Hey, how to send a message that rape isn't that important to the people of this town.. You can just hear them saying how longer in jail will ruin their football careers. Sadly, this is the image the rest of the world has of american high school boys and the "popular people".
But it's not tho, because the bystander effect presupposes that someone in a group or crowd is going go to step IN. If you're actively filming and encouraging, you're CULPABLE AND COMPLICIT!
Also stuff like this was way worse years ago so what the hell are you talking about? 20 years ago it was ok in most parts of the world if the rape happened to a spouse or the attacker wore a condom... Know where the term "rule of thumb" comes from? You couldn't beat your wife or daughter with an object thicker then your thumb, a full grown man's thumb... So please tell me what the hell your talking about cause this horrible situation doesn't need another ignorant person to add to it
Jarvis The bystander effect is not where you only stand and watch, but that is where the term originates from. Instead, it is where people don't step out of line, because they want to do what everyone else is doing. Sadly, people filmed the footballers, and what had happened, and due to their high reputation, and no one speaking up against what was happening, they all continued to film. To put it simply, it's like where a person follows the herd of sheep, and copy the other sheep exactly. Because no one did anything, no one did anything.
FoxHound P99 We are not talking about the past, this is the present It's not okay, and should never be tolerated. The footballers deserve punishment. Referring to the past will never benefit the present for the future. I fail to see your point of view

FATHERS MUST SET A FINE EXAMPLE BY TREATING THE MOTHER & DAUGHTERS RESPECTFULLY (& VICE VERSA OF COURSE)... THIS ALL BEGINS AT HOME...
What about women especially regarding the way they raise their daughters to respect boys and not do some of the debauchery that's they have committed from baby trap in the false rape allegations because of the rise of me too and people who actually was getting real Justice. Two folks just getting railroaded at which hunted out it's a two-way street in a double-edged sword is not one-sided
Ummm if that was my daughter I’d be in prison for besting punks to a pulp. Including the one punk laughing about it on video
Wow so they learned nothing at all because they wasn't punished how sick
The football players are free now after just a few years in jail. Glad that death penalty is the punishment for rape in where I am coz letting that crime go is just not it
Thank God for those anonymous hackers if it wasn't for them the world wouldn't know what had happened but still only a year that a slap on the wrist for the men they should've been tried as adults
This still breaks my heart..
Karma is no joke... vindictive people, who go out of their way to hurt others will ultimately pay the price one way or another- and they should fear how it will play out for the rest of their life
Listening to the words of the principal and the coach sums up everything wrong in this town. I hope they both got fired and if they have families, someone should check on them to make sure they're safe from these two monsters.
The head coaches he helps out a lot of kids
People blame victims are worse
The documentary they just released was crazy!!What a place to live
I lived there my whole life basically so I really don't appreciate you downing Steubenville. It was not like that at one point and I'm sure where you live isn't much prettier either. Just better for a person to downgrade another town other than there own.
@@nataliestewart7609 I'm sorry i offended you!Maybe I should of worded it better but the ppl on this documentary make it look bad
That's it they only got a year!? WTF!!
*This story is absolutely horrifying!*
A state full of Psychopaths! Teens and adults alike!
1 and 2 years of jail for violently lureing and rapping a girl and they act like that's justice? There's posts that clearly stated what they did and other things like pissing on her those creeps are not children they should be in jail to be raped for the rest of they're pathetic lives
Disgusting behaviour
Poor sweet girl has to relive it over and over
She did nothing wrong
there’s a film like this called ‘The Assault’ i think it’s based on this. it’s on youtube
wtf?? how do ppl jus stand around *watching!!* like... rlly??
ppl were wearing masks outside at the thing... jeeze so weird.
such a horrific event
Lauren Alexander People were wearing masks where?! They never said anything about that happening at the party so I don’t know where you’re getting that from.
@@---nobody--- no I mean at the gathering outside
Lauren Alexander They’re Anonymous.
Who the hell records it disgusting
they always say if dis happens tell someone u trust but if they dont believe u keep telling until someone does
de victim getting blamed diesnt surprise me im glad she got de help she needed
Speaks volumes really when an entire community want to protect there shitty little local football team and not care about an underage girl being raped by, God knows, how many guys, and passed around.. and to add insult , spoken about on social media like she was garbage? Seriously America, bring you're kids up properly 🇺🇸🙄
This poor girl I hope all them involved get what’s coming to them.
Seriously... both convicted of rape and they only get one year??
how do parents justify and defend to the end,,,,, evil.
None of u know anything about my town and you don’t know the whole story. So hush, figure out what ur talking about, then come back.
Sadly these events happen all over the world, not just in your community. Some of the comments here are horrific and shameful.
Yeah but why did they have to record and send pictures?? I don't think I want to hear anything else, your town is full of pieces of shit.
A girl got gang raped and your town tried to cover it up. Stop trying to justify it, you vile excuse of a human being.
She didn't get the justice she deserves
I'm ashamed to live here....On God
Ragsbad to get away is worse 100 years of that if not beginning of time awareness is thin in roid rings & cheater heroes.
13 reasons why.
Y’all going to jail hope it was worth it
I live in Steubenville went to the school for 1 9 weeks
One year! Hey, how to send a message that rape isn't that important to the people of this town..
You can just hear them saying how longer in jail will ruin their football careers.
Sadly, this is the image the rest of the world has of american high school boys and the "popular people".
They got off extremely light
This reminds me of a movie! Can’t remember it’s name though, but God this is sad :/
The Assault was based on this case
13 reasons why for real
No - they're both completely different?
The Bystander effect perfectly explained
Look how far the world has fallen
But it's not tho, because the bystander effect presupposes that someone in a group or crowd is going go to step IN. If you're actively filming and encouraging, you're CULPABLE AND COMPLICIT!
Also stuff like this was way worse years ago so what the hell are you talking about? 20 years ago it was ok in most parts of the world if the rape happened to a spouse or the attacker wore a condom... Know where the term "rule of thumb" comes from? You couldn't beat your wife or daughter with an object thicker then your thumb, a full grown man's thumb... So please tell me what the hell your talking about cause this horrible situation doesn't need another ignorant person to add to it
Jarvis
The bystander effect is not where you only stand and watch, but that is where the term originates from.
FoxHound P99
We are not talking about the past, this is the present
It's not okay, and should never be tolerated. The footballers deserve punishment.
Referring to the past will never benefit the present for the future.
I fail to see your point of view
@@foxhoundp9949
Misandric much??
Care to evidence your statement or has this lie been told so often nobody cares if it's true??
And... if society hated women so much... why LIMIT the damage/weapons allowed??
Kinda suggests - even it were true - it's about discipline, not hatred.
Otherwise THERE'D BE NO RULE!!
MY evidence???
You can hit men with whatever you like!!
HORRIBLE
13 reasons Why
Damn, this is so fucked up.
Hopefully down the line the these boys will have to face the music some how some way. To be able to get such a short sentence for all that they did to an unconscious person is all kinds of jacked up.
Is this what 13 Reasons Why is based off of? Seems so similar
Not even a little bit similar. And no, it wasn't.
They didn’t get enough time. Just a slap on the wrist.
Sick!!!! Those that watched.....one day you guys will have your own kids!!! May that day that you knew! Saw! & didn’t do anything! May it not come back to haunt you! In your future w/your very own. If it ever does remember Karma!!!
No one actually filmed a rape. Also She was digitally raped, thats why the teens only served 1 and 2 years. If you read trial testimony verbatim it shows her friends tried to take her home but, she struck one of them in the face. This case was blown up because Drunk Teens posted outlandish and insensitive things on social media, bullied the victim without knowing what actually happened and the freshman/criminals were part of good High School Football team. The Criminals were arrested quick, the city turned the case over to a Out of town Judge and Prosecutor that the State issued.
How?
a gangbang isn't rape
1. The definition of gang bang is successive RAPE of on person by a group of people
2. She was drunk, you can't give consent when you're. Multiple people being there doesn't change the fact that she didn't give consent
It seems you don't know what gang rape is. Educate yourself, Jeff.
Sad
Jesus bless her heart that is so sad, and those horrible people only got one year. Jesus Loves You btw!💕💕
Late news much??
Nah, you were just still in your crib when this was fresh
one year???
This is the series of Thirteen reasons why (NETFLIX). This shit is real.
wow.
