    If the old knob is super tight (like mine was), then put the bolt knob itself into the vice instead of the bolt body and clamp it super tight. Then, use the bolt as a "T" handle to turn the knob handle out of the knob. Works much easier. If you don't plan on keeping the old knob you can clamp it directly in the vice without padding for an even greater grip on the knob. Scratches won't matter it you plan on throwing it away.

      I just had this problem with the vpt mtr I picked up. Used one of them rubber strap gripper things, worked pretty well.
