And because it was the strongest monster out of the originals, and since there were no tribute summons back then, it completely destroyed every deck except cards like dark hole and trap hole.
These opening have got to be one of my favourite type off openings
when i was a kid, i used to have this yugi and kaiba's starter deck and back in the day, it would only cost me for around $5 .. how nostalgic all of this card is .. i dont give a damn about 5ds or those next gen yugioh's series .. my childhood will always remain in duel monsters and gx series .. i grew up.watching this anime !!
I think Blue-Eyes is more iconic firstly because in the Anime it was considered ultra ultra rare. It’s a higher lv then Dark Magician with more Atk and also in the anime Kiba used Ultimate Blue Eyes White Dragon to summon I think the first 4K atk monster I had ever seen. Exodia is cool too but you need 5 pieces Blue Eyes is easier to summon.

Pretty sure what made Blue eyes so iconic was that in the anime it stated that there are only 4 copies of blue eyes white dragon which bolstered the fan base of such a rare card. obviously Konami made more than 4 blue eyes cards but the idea of having a card that was so rare in the anime surely had something to do with its popularity. This is all my opinion though being one of those fans that grew up when the first episode aired in America haha. Being 12 and dueling with my friends is what this video brought back lol.
Blue-eyes white dragon is the most popular/iconic because it was the first monster to be shown in Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 manga and instantly a fan favourite
Blues is better because its a freakin white dragon with blue eyes and it was the straight stongest with no gimmicks back then.

My first ever YuGiOh cards was the Kaiba Starter Deck in 2001. It’s also the only reason why I love playing any Blue-Eyes decks, especially the original starter deck.

More people use Dark Magician in the show but only Kaiba uses Blue Eyes. Also, Kaiba made it such a big deal that only he has the only existing Blue Eyes in the world. That kind of transferred into the real world, that and dragons are mythical and the artwork is iconic.

I also like the way they translated the cards. Hitotsu-Me Giant simply translates to "one-eyed giant" but for some reason they felt "Hitotsu-me 一つ目" sounded better as his name.

I'm going to be completely honest, I bought one of these at my recent game store for 15 bucks. They sell Yu-Gi-Oh stuff, but most of the workers are more into Magic, so we often kinda take advantage of that for when we buy cards and decks. I've never been a happier man.
I feel that blue eyes is more liked/recognised for the reasons following:
A) dragons overall rule and white dragon looked beautiful, not saying that dark magician doesn't , but blue eyes is more majestic to the eye.
B) Basically due to Blue Eyes all of Yugi's adventures start, Kaiba wanted Solomon's Blue Eyes, Yugi wan Kaiba in order to prove a lesson to him but it was the card that initiated all
C) Due to it being the card that starts it all it was the first powerful monster shown in the series, he was also seen as rare
D) Actually Blue eyes used to be stronger than Dark Magician, well he still is but nowadays Dark Magician has great support.

When i was a kid i played with my neighbor that is also my best friend. We were in his backyard when my mother suddenly came by and gave me a pack of these. I still think about it sometimes to this day. Now when im older i feel even more greatful for that moment and that she thought of me and about giving me that gift. I remember some cards more than others cause i thought they were cool, like the black luster soldier, mystical elf, change of heart, neo the magic swordsman. Was 22 years ago. Time flies!

Both those starter decks were the first things I ever stole in my life when I was kid. After watching the first episode, I saw those starter decks hanging on the shelf at K mart. Was like OMG Blue eyes and Dark Magician. Dadddd please buy these....nope. To the dressing room I went with both boxes. Still remember the fear of getting caught and the euphoric feeling of knowing I'll own both. Also remember being extremely disappointed when 3x Blue Eyes didn't come in the box lol.

Fun fact in Lord of D. original name and concept, in the manga, the D. does not stand for dragon (as we all believe back then) but for darkness, so it's name is Lord of Darkness. But Konami make the mistake to think it was the abbrevetion of dragon... so also in other language they traslate the name as of Lord of D (the initial letter of dragon word) while the correct letter for Darkness, because in most of other language Dragon and Darkness does not begin with the same letter.

If those are 1st edition then dont. You will be very wealthy in a couple of decades when most of the still sealed ones will be opened and the hype for the 30th or 40th anniversary will strike.

I still have the Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician from those starter decks. I never traded them. They are a treasure for me. Each of these Starter Deck costed $20 back then but each had 50 cards each.
Ah, now this is nostalgic. When I was a kid I pestered my mom so much until she bought me a pirate copy of the starter deck Yugi, and then a couple months later my brother got the Kaiba one (fake too, but we didn't care).
Later on I started buying original cards, and for some reason never bought my favorite ever Dark Magician with the original print. I always wanted one, though. Should try to get one now!
I have a lot of those cards from my friends when I was in 5th grade. And I have that same Blue Eyes and Lord of D. I use in my Blue Eyes deck. 😃😃😃😃👍

Bruh this is so iconic! Back in the days is 2002, my brother brought me a starter deck yugi (just like what you showed in this vid) and it contains just like it. it reminds me how awesome my childhood is. I made friends because of yugioh when I was a kid.
