That duel was incredibly nostalgic to watch and super fun. The tables turned every turn and it wasn’t just one turn with effect after effect after effect. Seemed like anyone could pick up and play. Man what a flashback to elementary school.

That's accurate, he just invented whatever effect he needed at the moment. Take kuriboh for example, everytime he invented some effect for him xD
I really think early Yugioh cards had a lot better aesthetic feel than a lot of the current game. The current era is so much more sci-fi/anime inspired in the card designs and concepts, while the early generation of cards up to like GX had a lot more of that occult/raw edgy aesthetic. A lot of the modern Yugioh creatures (synchro, XYZ, Link, etc.) remind me of Gunpla or Mega-level Digimon that all have this sort of angelic/machine-like aesthetic. With that early Yugioh era, even though most of the cards had nothing to do with Ancient Egypt, many of them were so macabre and dark that you actually did get the impression you were playing some ancient shadow game exactly like the show depicts. The starter decks actually had this like vibe about them, like you could literally feel the epic energy of the cards within them.
I mean that generally happened with Yu gi oh anime as well , the whole concept of 5d’s onwards is that it happened in the future and how the tech has really improved so the monsters and spells reflected this
EXACTLY. Main reason Forbidden Memories and Dark Duel Stories will be my favorite games.
I loved when you would be able to combine monsters to make new ones and their attributes would give them an edge over certain monsters.

I recently got back into the game thanks to Master Duel, and the new cards look like ass. Bunch of anime girls instead of creepy monsters like in the early days. Although i love the cryptozoology cards with Mothman and Bigfoot.

Back then YuGiOh wasn't glorified solitaire or about constant special summoning it was about the suspense! With the most common phrases and questions.

I'm pretty sure Blue-Eyes is the most famous Yu-Gi-Oh card, just because the phrase "dark magician" could refer to a lot of things, but "blue-eyes white dragon" is a lot more specific and many people who have never played the game.or watched the anime have still heard of it. They may have heard of dark magician as well but may not immediately recognize it as a Yu-Gi-Oh card.

now THIS brings back memories, I actually had the special editions of all 4 of the original starter decks (Yugi, Kaiba, Joey, and Pegasus) that came with sleeves, a couple packs and a few other things
Love it, reminded me of when I was a kid dueling with my brother. These two starter decks were the only cards we have to play.
I remember as a kid getting these 2 Starters at a Gas Station it was awesome then and the sets are still awesome today I miss the old Yu-Gi-Oh!

back then you could watch people play and understand what is going on, now if you try to watch a modern yu gi oh duel you can't understand what's going on unless the players spend 5 minutes explaining each effect they activate.

I still remember my older brother getting the Yugi deck at K Mart and the fresh smell of yugioh cards. That smell is up there with the likes of gasoline and Home Depot
At last, a YuGiOh duel that I can keep on track! No multi-effects chain crap, no too much tiny text effects, no monster needs to have effects to be cool, just straight ATK and DEF points, that's the way of simple but enjoyable dueling experience!
Magic and traps should be the cards with effects, while effect monsters should not be as common as they are now, they should be rare and simple to read and understand, in fact, every card effect should be as simple as that for fast pace and easy tracking for everyone. And because of how YuGiOh cards are now, the "duels" have become tedious text reading and complicated gameplay that ruins all the joy it had back then.

DUDE!!! Sword Of Dark Destruction and Book Of Secret Arts is LITERALLY how I beat my friend in my first Yugioh game! He was so cocky with his 3x Blue Eyes, Dark Magician and other strong beaters that he never put any equip spells in there but that game is when he decided to start running Sword Of The Deep Seated but then I got lucky a week later and cracked a foil Axe Of Despair and then my Magician was sometimes a 4200 monster. This video brought back so much nostalgia for me, woah!
I just had a Yugi and a Joey deck and I would fill my deck with all the good 4 star monsters I had (mostly 2000 def point walls like Mystical Elf and Giant Soldier of Stone, Aqua Madoor and stuff like that) but I had a buncha 1800 beaters and one Gemini Elf (clutch with Book or Axe/Nuzzler for an effective turn one big beater) from a pack and my 3 best strong beaters, Dark Magician, Summoned Skull and Red Eyes Black Dragon. I had Axe Of Despair, Malevolent Nuzzler, 2x Book Of Secret Arts (bought a second for 25 cents at a card shop) and 2x Sword Of Dark Destruction (got one in a pack) and those spells made me beat everyone who thought Blue Eyes was enough :)

I recently bought some random new decks years after abandoning yugioh and Oh my god, every monster is now an effect monster with a damn tiny NOVEL written on it. Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the original series. Only 4 copies existed.
But in GX, Dimitri said he had copied Kaiba's deck and had lost with it.
But the only way to copy his deck is if there are more than 4 existing by that time period.
In which, GX takes place 10 years after the original.
Though DSOD is a sequel to the original manga. And has the Duel Disk being more advanced.
And Trudge from 5D's went to high school with Yugi and co.
I love the original artworks of Blue-Eyes, Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, and Red-Eyes.
And the DSOD artworks of Blue-Eyes and Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl.
The common artwork of Red-Eyes that I see now is the same art as Atticus's Red-Eyes in GX.
I wish I had all Lost Art cards.
I love Lost Art Monster Reborn and the five pieces of Exodia.
I think Blue-Eyes White Dragon is the most famous because of a conversation I had with someone on Twitch who only remembers Blue-Eyes because of his cousins trying to look for the card when the game was still new in the States. And he was 22 at the time. And knows nothing else about Yu-Gi-Oh but Blue-Eyes.
Starter deck Yugi was my very first deck my grandma has bought me very nostalgic I remember how hype I was about the Dark Magician card.

I know I’m biased but this just looks so much more fun than having to shuffle through your deck and read walls of text every turn. There was a happy balance a couple of sets after LOB that really made this game special.

Bruh, I was 12 when these decks came out. I remember losing my mind when I saw the Kaiba deck. My mother, may she rest in peace, jumped when I started shouting like the dumb little kid I was when I saw the Blue Eyes on the front. Good old days man.

If you make a season 1 Bakura deck, I advise that Dark Master - Zorc and Contract with the Dark Master and Contract with the Abyss in his deck.

I’d argue the most famous Yu-Gi-Oh monster is Exodia.
If an “Exodia hand” is takes about in other card games the way a Royal Flush is, then I’d say more people know about that monster than even Blue-Eyes or Dark Magician.
