To your last point about the asari having automobiles 30,000 years ago....for them, that's just 30 generations. They're seemingly much slower in development than the other races, especially in comparison with the salarians. Their long lifespan and tendency towards centrism and stability seem to cripple their development. They're that much more advanced, but still reliant on relays. The Ascension gets got by geth fighters, a race that is only 300 years old. They never figured out how to scan the keepers. They never truly mapped the Citadel. They had warnings from the beacon on Thessia, I mean that VI was still active, but never did anything with it. They had more access to prothean technology, but never figured out that the relays clearly aren't theirs. The asari are in a state of arrested development when we meet them, regardless of how advanced they may be.
This a very good point cause when talking to javik he alludes to the salirians being little more than animals in his time while the Asari were already agricultural.
@Beowulf0510 and humans had not even had the first civilizations yet. The oldest known build site, Gobekli Tepe, is a little under 13,000 years old, and it doesn't show signs of being used as a city.
Living a long life means you have less pressure of development as you will end up percieving time differently. Salarians live rather short life for instance and were masterful scientists because they had more pressure to develop technologies. They even adapted by speaking faster in order to waste as little time as possible. Salarians was basically peak efficiency. Krogan who also lived really long were really underdeveloped as a spacefaring race as well. Had it not been for the other races finding a need for them they would likely have been untouched by the reapers making them the dominating species in the next cycle. If not for Shepard that is. Eitherway it makes sense.
@Danol123 the krogan more than likely would have gone extinct without first contact, tbh. They're hyperviolent, and they had decimated themselves in nuclear war before anyone met them. It's not just a biological issue with any of the races. It's also a cultural one. I doubt the krogan knew exactly how long they actually lived prior to their uplift. The asari have major cultural problems in their perceived, and in some cases actual, superiority. They approach the other races almost like they're children in comparison. Even the krogan, who live just as long as they do. They're slow to develop partly just because they do not feel the need to. It's almost like they're intentionally slow-rolling their development. The salarians can largely be explained by their short lives, though. They're the species most influenced by their biology overall.
So long story short, they were pushed too early by the protheans. They never worked for their tech, and always were prone to do as told by a superior force. Also, their melding type of sex....imagine having sex just by touching a person (almost)....I bet lot of them couldnt think anything else all day
Space Elves/Vampires. Like them or not, it is hard to deny it is a fun concept to explore. Interesting choice in how the developers did so much to connect reproduction to power for the Asari. It really paints their oh so wise Matriarchs to be quite foolish in choosing to try and keep the lid on the Reapers for so long. I wonder what the Asari would have looked like if the knowledge of the Reapers was common knowledge for their 30k years long history.
Thank you for compiling all of the Asari lore, it was nice to be refreshed into this fascinating universe. On the ending note, I also believe that Destroy has to be the canonical ending. This was one of the reasons I kind of didn't want them to continue the main franchise. Control leads to an army of Shepard influenced Reapers to "peacefully" control the universe. I just can't imagine there being a feasible threat to the galaxy if these Reapers are still controlling the Universe and vaporizing anything they perceive as a threat. The Synthesis ending is also far too impactful for the series to continue for VERY OBVIOUS reasons. Only the Destroy ending has a Milky Way Galaxy that is free from the control of Reapers and therefore allows the franchise to continue in a feasible manner. Personally I chose Destroy on my first ending, despite also brokering peace between the Geth and the Quarians. As guilty as a I felt doing so, it felt like the only feasible option. Control was frequently depicted as Indoctrination, everybody who said they could control the Reapers was already indoctrinated, and even though we see Shepherd Reaper stop liquefying everybody, the Reapers are still in control of the universe allowing the peace to exist for only as long as it is logical to do so. Synthesis may seem like a noble goal, but forcibly rewriting everyone's DNA against their will, practically destroys the people they were in exchange for new super race. So that's not really a good option either, plus that's all the Reapers ever wanted, and fuck the Reapers. There is no way I'm going to side with the Grim Reapers that liquify babies into robot juice. So I'm sorry Geth, and I'm sorry Edi, but I'm going with Destroy. Its the only way to actually stop the Reapers.
@Mikito456 I look forward to new foolish factions filling in the Reaper's power-vacuum of the Milky Way, such as Pirate Warlords salvaging the Reapers themselves and isolated Culists being cooky around giant dead metal Squids.
I think the way asari breed swapping genetic memory and history may be a direct cause of prothean involvement in their early evolution. It's very similar to how their technology works. They may have even been dual gendered but developing into a all female race after being exposed to their genetic memory technology
Asari despite being wise are really dumb at times. Like ignoring the Batarians as they didn't want to sitr up the pirate warlords. (I like the fanfic's that go into the lore more. Like they allowed the Batarians to distract and weaken the Turians a little.) Honesly I feel they hold everyone back which is both a good and a bad thing at once. In the games their just written as good intentions but bad executions. While in reality and thankfully people have well written in fics. Their highly cunning, manipulative and controlling. From controlling the markets, fashion and art. Making everyone really on them even if they don't know it.
Asari are fine and all - albeit a bit pompous and self-aggrandizing if you ask me - and Liara is alright I guess, but Tali is and will *always* be best girl...
30:31 so personally I always have the mindset of the hardest ending to get is normally that canon one, in this case that destroy + Breath as it take having a 100% galactic war score which back in the day also meant maxing out the online multiplayer on top of picking the “”right”” option even when it cost the life of beloved friends, god I hated that we couldn’t save them two. The Destroy + breath also seems to be what the new game is running with though personally I think we could have still won with the pick no option ending as we had done something no cycle before us had done, we united multiple different races working together as a team instead of dominating them like past cycles and because we encountered Reapers before the mass awakening we had reaper weapons and shields on our side, yes it would have been bloody but we could still win ending the reapers for good.
Ah yes, my first love and one of the healthiest relationships I've ever been in, blue skinned scientist baddie with mommy issues... I should call Liara.. 😂
And here it is beautiful example how writers were inspired by the Si-Fi classics, and this genetics program of Asari played well around Bene Gesserits from Dune novels.
Most likely "cannon" ending will be destroy for obvious reasons. But it could also be control with some way of making the Shep Reapers unable to intervene directly or be that relevant. E.G Leviathans being the new baddies and having the ability to kill Reapers. Or something completely new like threats from the Andromeda storyline.
I just realized that Gabbi yelling at Ken has a whole new meaning to it when u realize she’s romantically into him. That’s gotta be at least a little painful.
I would love a game that goes more into the Asari as we know there is a lot of hidden info about them also what do they actually look like as different races see them looking differently so what is they actually Biology? Now assuming that the Bannshe’s aren’t doing the same mind altering thing that the normal Asari do (I mean what would they need to make themselves look different now that they are a Reaper minion?) then we kinda know that they actually do look more human that Turian aka no bending backwards knees but it dose make you wonder if the Bannshe actually looks like what we see?
30:46 sympathise is the worst ending if you actually look at the lore I mean remember that woman we hear been turned into a husk while she still has her mind? Well every single reaper is like that they all are still awake trapped in their own minds as the watch their body get mutalated or merged with others like the praetorian that’s like 12 or more humans crammed together imagine getting your mind back and been stuck in that messed up body or worse yet a Bannshe gets her mind returned able to remember all the horrible things she did against her will😱 anyone that things that ending is the best one like some devs have said clearly dosnt know their own story.
Can't be control because Shepard would be absorbed into the reapers as the star child says he will not be human destroy or continue the cycle possible cannon
One thing that always bothered me is that the mercenary band consisting of mostly Asari is the Eclipse and not the Blue Suns. Like cmon I get it would be sort of cliche but it fits so much better lol. Also Samara having all 3 daughters be Ardat yakshi. Like I get having the first daughter be one and thinking it’s a fluke, but surely by the second daughter being one you might start to think you shouldn’t have more daughters. Then she has ANOTHER ONE. Maybe 2 were twins and I didn’t catch that? Idk
They grow into ardat yakshi through there form of puberty. It's also sadly just a disease the asari can carry, morinth just kind of enjoyed killing/ being a freak lol. Her sisters, however, were innocent and literally victims to the disease, sad.
Unfortunately if the next Mass Effect game makes one specific ending Canon I'll probably not play it. One of the key features of that franchise is that your choices matter in carry over the next game so if my choice is in my playthroughs don't matter and they select a Canon ending then it's not my story to play
I am not racist but the Asari do absolutely nothing to deserve the influence they have on the council beyond being first. edit: also the destiny ascension deserved it
In my opinion the first council deserves to die in the first game, they don’t help at all in the first game, the second they deny the reapers exist, and then the third game there running around like headless chickens
That's fair, considering the Asari used illegally acquired technology to force their way to the top. If anything I'm hoping the announced Mass Effect sequel addresses the fallout of Shephard revealing their secret.
ah yes the asari the one race i wont hesitate in making go exinct! to me they are nothing more than long lived paracitic lifeforms as such to me they are a threat that either needs wiping out or have been wiped out by the reapers.

Ya after watching this video I’m more then certain that the asari not knowing about the reapers in some way makes no sense. A missed opportunity to end this one with "And may the Goddess aid you, always" given Liara's love of the phrase "By the Goddess"
