Ananya Panday is in her 2014-2017 Varun Dhawan era where she's constantly playing herself in every project, hoping that the audiences will lap it up every single time. The audiences will eventually disconnect, and that's what happened with his films in 2020. Let's see what the Vikramaditya Motwane project has in store.
I always found Varun a fine actor , ofc not some great talent but I always felt the Varun hate was so forced. He was always better than his contemporaries Siddhart , Arjun etc.

I have always failed to understand why cheating on partners is being shown in a humourous way! It is not a joke in any way. How can such a demeaning role of females be empowering. How can having sex with a random person make u feel good after a fight/insult? And how can women shown in such a light expect people to take them seriously when they demand respect and individuality... 🤷🏻♀️
It’s about agency. Woman having the freedom to live there lives the way they want and not be judged for it. The fact that u r doing it shows we aren’t past womans dignity lies in her sexuality bit. Trust me nobody judges men.

I also thought the same. The character was really similar to Caroline from Two broke girls and Alexis from Schitts Creek. In some scenes you can clearly see Ananya copying Alexis.
For the first time ever, I am not in agreement with TRP's review of a show! I really liked this show purely coz it was very light headed, stress free, good looking and blingy on screen and just fun to watch. Ananya has improved over a period of time and an actor must be judged on their acting skills basis their screen presence and not basis whether their acting is really a tough job or not. She played to her strengths and is being liked for it. Unpopular opinion - Only Ananya or may be Alia could have played this role. No one else could. Its ofcourse far from reality, but wasn't that how it was supposed to be. This show was much needed for a weekend binge and it deserves its due :)
Agreed I actually enjoyed it It was not meant to be serious They were laughing on themselves That was the whole purpose of it Being light hearted and I don’t think anyone could’ve done a better job here than AP Sometimes you just want a light binge watch And it solved the purpose You don’t always need heavy drama and suspense I think it was very good
Ikr.. even I enjoyed it.. who cares if it's copied.. this kinda light headed entertainment genre is rare in Indian content.. so it's something new to watch something like that in Hindi.

Everything was so easy for her. Getting an internship, being the girl everyone loves, no remorse over cheating on her husband and in turn making him feel bad about himself, men falling all over her. There was nothing engrossing, substantial or gripping. I was super disappointed with Vir Das; his actual felt unnatural, his dialogues forced, his comic timing off. I usually like your reviews but this time I wondered what went wrong that you hated the show so much. IMO, the show isn't half as bad as what you project it to be in your review / rant. It delivered on what the trailer promised - a light, breezy, fun watch with several funny one-liners and yet you chose to pick & start your review with probably the weakest one-liner of the show involving Smarty Pants. I also thought the styling was fab by Anahita Shroff Adajania and the entire cast especially the girls - Ananya, Niharika, Muskkaan and Lisa Mishra did a fine job.
Women I believe have the potential to be the next female superstars of Hindi cinema after Alia Bhatt (who enjoys the relentless support of powerful lobbies) - Sharvari Wagh and Kriti Sanon (sad that Kriti still hasn't gotten her due). I'd include Sanya Malhotra but she lacks the star charisma (just my opinion), although she is a tremendous talent!
I agree with Sharvari , after watching vedaa and maharaj..she has SO MUCH potential..but not kriti ..the kind of scripts and films she chooses..adipurush..ganpath..🤦to name a few..I dont think so..and I watched couple of her recent interviews..she is completely out of touch..she thinks that bollywood is doing well😂

Aisha was a GREAT movie for Sonam Kapoor! We knew Sonam is like that irl, but that movie had a great story..some of us millennials have seen it multiple times lol. Call Me Bae could have been that but it’s just so cringe..and not aligned with gen z at all.
So my opinion may be an unpopular opinion then Because I really enjoyed the show and here are my two cents - For the first time I enjoyed Ananya’s acting, it was the perfect amount of “over the top” - It wasn’t preachy, it was touching on a sensitive topic but thank God it was not preachy. In fact I really enjoyed the final debate between bae and SS. The one liners in the beginning were very basic but Ananya delivered them very well - I am Pakistani, not an Indian so I dont really know a lot about the culture and dynamics of the cities except for the fact that South Dehli is a rich posh place and Mumbai is for hustlers but the references in the show were really interesting and I really wanted to see more of the city dynamics - I am a millennial and not a GenZ and genZ shows annoy the hell out of me but for some reason I did feel connected to the show. For once I wasn’t being told in my face that I am an old person and I dont understand GZ stuff😂 - I loved the entire cast of the show . Every actor fits the character like a glove So may be it could be just me but disagreeing with you here Jammy, the show did leave a really nice impact. That is the worst take ever Kareena in her younger years was way worse. The difference is between showcasing actual talent and hardwork vs just shoving an actor that clearly cant act . All of the veteran female actresses because of nepotism were given multiple chances, i mean if i had a million chances i could also learn how to act. Genz actresses from the outside haven’t even gotten a chance yet, even in millenials its only now that we get actors like tripti dimri, sanya Malhotra etc being mainstream
As a gen Z person, I must say that these rich and privileged actors who get roles through nepotism aren't a representation of the actors of our generation. In fact, the actors of our generation haven't even gotten big roles or enough appreciation for their role (some of which were mentioned in this video itself). It's the boomer producers and writers of our country who just take western stereotypes of the younger generations, apply them on Indian girls and women, and expect us to find them relatable.
You are right, there are many things wrong with this show - it does not align with struggles of moving to a new city, entering job market as a beginner (yet alone with no valid credentials but only random short courses), landing your biggest break, finding decent roommates and love interests, and so on and so forth. BUT even as a critic you DO NOT get to decide what kind of content is to be made. Your guilty pleasure may or may not be same as other people. This series is supposed to be a lighthearted fling. I've never quite understood why people consider Veer Das a good comedian. To me, he seems just below average, and his acting is fairly mediocre as well.
They say comedians are fearless in their opinions and standup.. But the speech he gave outside india.. India mein karo na, kyun fatt gyi na kahi pel diya jayega bheed mein.. He is either too much or too fake
@@_AZBT_ASHUTOSHKUSHWAHA I believe the reason Veer Das chose to deliver that speech outside India wasn't out of fear of offending anyone, as many within India give far more controversial and hateful speeches without consequence, which, in itself, is a sign of a functioning democracy. Instead, I think his primary motive was to garner sympathy and attention from the West. It seems he wanted to portray India as so problematic that someone like him felt compelled to flee to the West to highlight these issues to the 'great' Western audience. Perhaps he hoped to gain their support, security, and fame by appealing to them. However, what Veer Das seems to have overlooked is that the essence of a stand-up show is comedy, and in that speech, it was sorely lacking.
He is famous cause he toes the "woke" party line. Mediocrity has become the centre piece of mainstream entertainment houses. You aren't supposed to be good as comedy, you just have to agree with "what is acceptable". Politics always kills art.

The only reason why shows like this get made is because the particular demographic these shows cater to just love to watch a celebrity family's fake and lavish lifestyle and their relationships.
Sorry Anmol ! Sometimes we just want to get our vacuuming done and not have to watch serials. I didn’t care about the accuracy of the whatsapp groups or the couple of scenes I probably missed. Sure, but mass murder and infidelity is a harder fluff to swallow and impressionable minds on a killing spree vs shopping spree is perhaps a little different in terms of consequences.
Seriously, India needs an a24 to cater to smaller independent films like what junglee or Viacom was doing in the late 2010s, with these big studios emphasising on what works for the current audience- huge action franchises, and these masala no brainers, they are the reason people have stopped going to watch smaller films ( I dont remember the last time i saw a film like 'Photograph' 'Dhobi ghaat' and 'Titli' without it being a netflix or a Amazon production) and even a film that wins the grand prix in Cannes doesn't gets distribution in its own country, Seriously India needs to support better screenwriters, or we'll never see the end of baaghis and housefull's because the general audience doesnt seem to care anymore about introspective films, they tend to lean more towards wedding pose montages on insta.
What difference does it make it it's on Amazon or Netflix? As long as it's popular, it'll make money. As long as it makes money, producers will keep funding similar projects. The important thing is to hype up these types of movies and shows regardless of what platform they're released on.

Trust me they just want us to believe that ananya can act . Just trying to lift her reputation or smth . Don't fall it . That sounded funny😂 but nvm .
I thought I was crazy for being infuriated by the overflow of compliments for the show. 😭 and yes.. class/big girls don’t cry are fare more decent shows I enjoyed and are quite relatable.
I do think most of them were fake and planted . I am sure actually. They are trying like hell to sell this as hit but not a single human person I know personally liked this , I mean no one actually completed . Ofc in the internet you cannot believe all the raving to be true
As a South Delhi girl, the depiction is cringe but it is exactly how people make fun of South Delhi ppl.
It was honestly a good laugh.
People being unaware of their self destructive tendencies for attention seeking is an actual phenomenon.
Also unfortunately your criticism for this sounded like Transformers series good but Twilight bad.
I didn't like major hits like Animal, RRR and Pushpa but I know people loved them. It's okay!
It's a surface level show that literally used keywords on chatgpt to form a script. It's impossible for a human to pass this script.
I surprisingly liked the sereis . It was fun to watch and ananya's acting had improved too. I mean why should we always expect so much from a sereis though it was a bit extra sometimes but i had a great time watching it plus it was engaging
Children from the 90s across South Asia (including Bangladesh) have grown up watching Karan johar movies. Very sad to see how Karan Johar is trying too much to connect to today's audience.
I've never quite understood why people consider Veer Das a good comedian. To me, he seems just below average, and his acting is fairly mediocre as well.
Yes. He just got lucky I guess.
He’s quite like a fancy restaurant which is bad in taste but no one can accept it publicly
He is famous cause he toes the "woke" party line. Mediocrity has become the centre piece of mainstream entertainment houses. You aren't supposed to be good as comedy, you just have to agree with "what is acceptable". Politics always kills art.
See if being “like another character” is a crime, there shouldn’t have been a Caroline after Elle or an Alexis after Caroline. The point is if we can accept so many renditions of Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, I think we should be okay with reiteration of an archetype. When was the last time when one saw a cozy fluff watch lead by a girl? Ask my Schitt’s Creek and the Good Place rewatching ass and I’ll tell you there isn’t! I used to be someone who used to be annoyed by this kind of escapist stuff. But as I am getting older and life is hitting real hard, I am recognising and appreciating the place for such escapist stuff in the world. I would agree that Call me Bae is certainly not a masterpiece even its own genre of cozy fluff but I guess India has to start somewhere?
AISHA did it 14 years ago. While being a remake it was still far more authentic about the portrayal of the privileged south delhi echo chamber than this!
@@TriedRefusedProductions I agree it was mediocre at best but does everything need to be a masterpiece?
You seriously did not compare this to the good place . My god 😂😂 . It’s like calling Bhagi series the Indian version of taken. I’m sorry but you just can’t 😢
@@abhinavmaharaj4804 you should read what I wrote again
@@shellysakhd8798nope. Everything must not be a masterpiece but it should at least must be sensible.
Aisha too, wasn't a masterpiece but it wasn't chatgpt level script whose prompt was given by a 12 year old.
Guys, it’s a nice and light hearted show.
Will bring a smile to your face, if you are NORMAL.
This RUclipsr is a pessimist, don’t listen to him
OMG... You are sometimes really the victim of your own brand... you are pretty soon gong to make I was wrong guys I couldn't see what you guys saw earlier... This show was real fun and well acted especially Ananya....it never claimed to be what it is not... Don't over intellectualize everything..
I was thinking of this exact thing!!!
Copying west and glorifying cheating that’s what it was
Exactlyyyyyy
There are better shows than that...and the storyline is also not "original " but everyone has thier preferences Ig so nvm.
Stop the Hate on Ananya Pandey and the show.
It is an amazing watch.
And Oh, you should have learnt from ‘Bae’ when she said ‘kindness never goes out of fashion’, maybe then you COULD have been a little kind and COULD have seen the positive side of the show.
People appreciate the roar of psycopath angry man in the movie Saripoda Shanivaram, but call this show loud😂.
Its for the entertainment. The problem is now a days people consider it as job, responsibility😅 to discuss , compare each show on social media .
😮
Ofcourse it his "job , responsibility " he reviews new shows and movies .
Q. Why so much money spent for fluff pieces.
Ans. Convert black money to white.
It was surprisingly good. I've only watched 3 episodes and i loved it. 10/10.
I mean.... yeah the plot may not be great, but I really like ananya's acting in this.
I actually enjoyed the show. There were parts that were cringe, but most comedy shows are, be it Bollywood or Hollywood.
11:42 This show is Indian equivalent of Blake Lively's 'It ends with us' where instead of focusing on main themes like domestic violence, she was more focused on her stylish and luxurious wardrobe, holding an after party where she promoted her alcohol brand and launching her new hair care brand alongside. These celebs, directors and producers are so out of touch that for them touching the heavy and realistic themes of movies are so goshdarn difficult.
I always agree with your reviews but not for this one. Thoroughly enjoyed the show. The writing was pretty good for a show of this genre and Ananya was endearing. Loved the fashion too! This show was miles better than Emily in Paris. May be women would enjoy this one more and that’s okay.
100% agree with you!
Exactly. I agree it was a good show.
Oh yeah. Girls love a show with plotless struggles, shallow characters, the whole world's against them for no reason (victim stuff) and especially cheating their partners. Masterpiece ⭐
@@Adityasing_hlol who hurt you?

I did enjoy all the references, had few moments that made me chuckle. Guilty pleasure for sure.
But the way everyone called her bae, cringed every time that happened. Making urvashi rateula date a cricketer was the HUMOUR.

Why can't call me bae be everything all at once? At least its entertaining. And why are you so mad people are liking it? It's a likable show. Ananya and vir das did great in it.
ok bootlicker
I honestly enjoyed this show, I’m American and don’t really know how life in India is. Stuff like lack seatbelts in those auto taxis is news to me since I’ve never seen one in person and never thought about. Bae has that London Tipton vibe and the show itself is very Disney like and I’m all for it
The only reason why shows like this get made is because the particular demographic these shows cater to just love to watch a celebrity family's fake and lavish lifestyle and their relationships.
The airhead demographics
So Karan Johar and his family and friends.
Yes we do, thanks for the recognition ❤
Sorry Anmol ! Sometimes we just want to get our vacuuming done and not have to watch serials. I didn’t care about the accuracy of the whatsapp groups or the couple of scenes I probably missed. Emily in Paris wasn’t accurate either. I don’t want to watch something life changing when I’ve had a rough day. It is just entertainment at the end of the day. I’m sure there’s market for fluff 😂
Exactly. I loved call me bae
I agree !!
@@prajaktadande7053do you by any chance work for there PR 🧐
Fr! The same way i said 'bout animal and femcels shitted on me. Smh.
Sure, but mass murder and infidelity is a harder fluff to swallow and impressionable minds on a killing spree vs shopping spree is perhaps a little different in terms of consequences.
Delhi houses are bigger than Mumbai matchboxes caught me off guard XD
I toh loveddd the series..It's So Much FUNNNN!
Seriously, India needs an a24 to cater to smaller independent films like what junglee or Viacom was doing in the late 2010s, with these big studios emphasising on what works for the current audience- huge action franchises, and these masala no brainers, they are the reason people have stopped going to watch smaller films ( I dont remember the last time i saw a film like 'Photograph' 'Dhobi ghaat' and 'Titli' without it being a netflix or a Amazon production) and even a film that wins the grand prix in Cannes doesn't gets distribution in its own country,
Seriously India needs to support better screenwriters, or we'll never see the end of baaghis and housefull's because the general audience doesnt seem to care anymore about introspective films, they tend to lean more towards wedding pose montages on insta.
I don't think it's true, many small films are becoming box office successes.
What difference does it make it it's on Amazon or Netflix? As long as it's popular, it'll make money. As long as it makes money, producers will keep funding similar projects. The important thing is to hype up these types of movies and shows regardless of what platform they're released on.

Call me bae is a well written and performed series and Ananyas best acting. You are just a jealous hater uncle who can't see her succeding. Well she is doing very well despite your best attempts at doing negative pr. Call me bae is trending #1 and giving profit to its producers.
Kiddo why
Having been a fan of yours for a long time, I feel you are not the target audience of a show that caters to female gaze. This was exactly the kind of show that we saw on TV in the 2000s. And I know this is a dumb show but it was fun dumb. Or maybe that's just me. Indian movies/shows already caters to men 90 percent of the time, God forbid they make something for the women. No wonder the women are moving to Kdramas.
Nope
Yes 💯
Please let it go right, it's for the girlies. So much of media is for the men and anything made for women is put under so much scrutiny. Just make the argument of "oh it's just a movie na, don't take it so seriously" that you always do and move ahead please. Thoda bahut jo hamare liye banate hai rehno do usko 😭
Yes, it was fun watching it , I loved her clothes makeup everything. Not every movie/series has to be that serious.
Karan johar is hilariously such an interesting character. On hand i was recently wacthing his interview with Bharadwaj rangan and his take on why bollywood films are failing as a producer was so on to the point and i could see how clever he is. But then at the same time with this series it feels like he has two split personalities working!!😅
it’s just mindless binge watching show. nothing more. i stayed up till 3 am binge watching it. i forget half of the things that happened. but am i excited for season 2? yes.
Guilty pleasure I guess or you are dumb you liked the show
Huh😵😵😵
Exactly. I also loved it.
if show is so forgetable then why are you even excited ?
I really liked the series its a light hearted comedy not everything should have an impact man also if you watch all the k dramas they always use really nice and big houses because it makes the viewers feel pleased its eye soothing song be so negative
0:33 just like Jammypants😂
I've watched both emily in paris and two broke girls and tbh call me bae tops these two shows. It was fun to watch and Ananya did a good job in this series. Emily in paris and Two broke girls became bit too heavy after a few episodes but call me bae was interesting till the last episode.
I personally found it one time watch, as I could tolerate it and managed to binge watch the entire series. I personally think Ananya is a good actress and she isnt truly an entitled nepo kid (we must know she is daughter of Chunky Pandey and not the likes of SRK or Aamir Khan or Saif Khan)
We will see in the future . As an actress she can't always do same roles ..so , if ever she actually decides to act we will meet again 🎉
Hey
I totally agree with your points but sometimes us (as an audience) we also wanna watch something light and calm, so we generally opt for mindless movies where we are just watching and having fun and we dont have to be very focused about it.
I actually enjoyed watching "call me bae."" It is so unserious that I just enjoyed the show. I finish it in one go. Ananya was so good in this snd so was her acting. You dont need to find the perfect comedy plotline everytime to watch a show. Sometimes you watch because you wanna have fun or just see some lame jokes(maybe) . I would live to see the season 2. Bella chaudhary you rockkk 🎉❤

I don't agree with this review....I liked the show and I don't even know what Emily in Paris is....Maybe you should not search for perfection always and just go with the flow and enjoy. Yeah, there could be moments which seems dumb, but that doesn't mean we focus on that and call it out ...Overall, I enjoyed this show, that's all matters to me. I don't care if everything is perfect, just entertainment is what should be main priority.

Ananya Pandey, she is as as Gen Z as her in her age but I still don't understand why she wants to look older, why she wants to look like a milenieal, I really just don't know why, but I really will give her that, she knows how to use what she has to her best advantage, and for Karan Johar, it is Ananya Pandey after Alia Bhatt
