- In this exclusive feature in collaboration with the Fulbright Commission in Egypt - led by Dr. Maggie Nassif - #CairoScene digs into another historic discovery in #Luxor, with archaeologist extraordinaire and Fulbright alumnus Dr. Zahi Hawass
For decades, many had spoken of an Ancient Egyptian city in Luxor, lost under the desert sands over 3,000 years ago, seemingly never to be found again. Over the years, more than 50 missions tried to locate what has been dubbed the largest Ancient Egyptian administrative and industrial settlement on the western bank of Luxor - but with no success.
That was until a Hawass-led, all-Egyptian mission touched down in the historic city in September 2020, eventually finding the city’s spectacular remains - The Lost Golden City. From the state of foreign relations, to water storage methods, the city offers unique and never-before-seen insight on the daily life of Ancient Egyptians under the rule of Amenhotep III.
