The Director said they wanted someone like Neidermayer. Dee Snyder went ok, what is Neidermayer doing? Let's book him to be in the video. And they did.
The dad is from the movie Animal House where he plays a military brat. The lines at the end of the song are his lines from the movie. If you watch the movie it makes more sense.

In case nobody's brought it up yet, the dad is played by Mark Metcalf, who is best known for playing Neidermeyer in Animal House. The song the kid's jamming to in his room is another Twisted Sister song called "I Wanna Rock".

Love the reaction. Even though I was born in 1981, I didn't get to listen to a lot of these songs until the 90's, and Twisted Sister is quite possibly my all time favorite band, and this is their best known song by far. Even my 2 year old son likes hearing it, and he was sitting here with me while we watched your reaction together.
This was such a popular song back in the day. But if your my age. I remember it most from the movie Iron Eagle. Hope someday you guys get into Classic 80’s movie reactions.
YES! I remember back in the day my parents were strict about listening to rock and metal on the radio, but Iron Eagle was one of my dad's favorite movies, so I used a cassette recorder to record the song while the movie played and would play it back constantly!!!
Twisted Sister's costumes were based on the movie "The Warriors" (1979 original) and were designed by lead singer Dee Snider's wife Suzette who's a professional costume designer.
This brings back ancient memories of when I was around your guys age. Twisted Sister formed in 1972. There was a small time something called Glam Rock was popular. Basically guys wearing makeup, glitter and maybe cross dressing. Early David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Slade is some of the bigger stars that were part of it. It never became really popular. Glam did inspire a lot of groups like Kiss and Hair Metal bands of the 80’s. Axl Rose from Guns and Roses originally wore light makeup. By the 80’s Glam wasn’t popular but Twisted Sister kept wearing it. It was a way to shock the people like the dad in the video (which was common). The name Twisted Sister was also for the shock value. Twisted Sister had a huge following around New York City before this video. The video shot them to world wide fame. Because of it they fell apart due to Dee, the singers ego. Great reaction. I saw them many times in the late 70’s. One of the best shows I’ve ever see. Dee is an amazing front man. Really got the crowd involved in the show.
Dee Snider (the singer) always said this video was supposed to be a "live action" bugs bunny or road runner cartoon. The dad is from the movie Animal House
I’ve loved this video and song since I was 5 years old back in the 80s. I was at my sisters boyfriends apartment and would watch this video over and over, was sitting in his chair and every time the dad would would fall out the window I’d swing back on the chair like I was the dad😂 later in years I found out that the wall was just repainted . Whoops 😬
Twisted Sister at this point went "commercial" they used to have more of a East Coast Decked out in Denim & Leather Biker Band look to them. Their look here is more West Coast, a combination of Motley Crue (Shout At The Devil) and Ratt (Out of the Celler) image. I saw them live during this time with Ratt & Lita Ford.
Watch "Animal House" which is the reference for both the Twisted Sister videos (this one and "I Wanna Rock"). I find it interesting that you show a distaste for the father's disrespectful behaviour while demonstrating the same behaviour toward him. LOL
Twisted Sister is the wild sister of the good sister. Its something you ask yourself, "what if I had a different sister then the one I have?" Then it would be a Twisted Sister!
The father was hired because he played a similar part on the movie "Animal House" great movie, my favorite character on the movie was "D-Day" I loved my Harley also.
Gosh it's been so long that I've forgotten why they named their selves Twisted Sister. I will say is about their outfits, they took the glam rock look of the hair bands and kicked it up a few notches. They also did another song that is very similar yet different called I Wanna Rock both off of their Stay Hungry album. Then you have songs like S.M.F. (sick mother f#*let) off the same album which also featured Captain Howdy. They even did another great song/video called Come Out And Play that I'm sure y'all will also like. And if you like Creepy, Kooky, Freaky, Weird "horror" movies, the singer Dee Snyder wrote, stared and directed a movie that was released in 1999 called Strangeland. You've got to totally check out Strangeland, parts of it may look a little dated now (mostly at the beginning) it was 1999 after all. Still a great movie.
The actor who played the dad in this music video is Mark Metcalf, he's basically reprising his role from the movie "Animal House" in the video Lead Vocalist Dee Snider is a huge fan of the movie and had asked Mark if he'd be willing to reprise the role of Douglas C. Niedermayer for the video Metcalf would also appear in the video for the Twisted Sister song "I Wanna Rock" (the song that the kid's jamming out to) alongside fellow "Animal House" costar Stephen Furst who reprised his role as Kent "Flounder" Dorfman
The lead singer, Dee Snyder, is awesome. He testified before Congress during the 80's when they were trying to censor albums. It ended with music labels putting "Explicit Content" warnings on the albums. But Dee was eloquent and articulate when he dismantled their arguments for censorship.
They're recreating a scene from the classic comedy "Animal House", where this actor portrays a sadistic ROTC Cadet (Neidermeier) cussing out another Cadet from a rival fraternity.. everyone around at the time understood exactly what was happening. It was almost word for word from the movie (which is HILARIOUS)
When Twisted Sister finally made mainstream success they had been at being a band for fifteen years and was in their mid 30s. They tried to make all their videos like looney tunes cartoons and if you watch those cartoons (Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Elmer fudd) you can see why their videos were the way there were but more specifically the road runner and Wyle E. Coyote. The band was the roadrunner and the dad was coyote! But yeah, the dad was portraying a principal or something from animal house. The videos were just meant to have fun and overdramatize the songs.

Twisted Sister took their look from the New York Dolls, a groundbreaking group in the early 70s who introduced draggy trash fashion to really filthy rock and roll. There were many groups that followed--mostly from New York--who looked to emulate the Dolls in one form or another. If you look at the very early pictures of KISS, before they got their record deal, they're not in black leather & kabuki makeup; they're in platform heels and dresses. Twisted Sister was one of the few bands who actually managed to survive; most of them just faded away.
I was 8 yo when this came out, all kids at school were singing it. Being french canadians we did not understand the words but we knew what was going on by the video and the tone.
Dee Snider (singer if twisted sister) is actually an intelligent, articulated, polite man who was incredibly efficient during the congressional hearings on the impacts of rock music on young Americans in the 1980s.
If you thought the dad yelling was bad, some of us grew up with those 'old school ' parents. Got worse when dad took his belt off and we got a whooping...just for excusing ourselves from dinner and relaxing in our rooms. You should have checked out I Wanna Rock before this one!! Back in the '80s before anyone had heard about MTV in Sweden there was this show on Sunday evenings showing videos. This one and I Wanna Rock became super popular mostly due to very cool videos!! It was like "giving the finger" to the teacher and do what you want!! Sweet memories.
Dee Snider and Chris Angel have a video out there where he sings this song to just a piano. It's for charity if you guys check it out. He really hits it out of the park.
Love you guys and the fact you learning as you go Love Twisted Sisters. Got one for you.( Juan Gabriel). Hasta que te conocí.. live from institute of Bella's artes video... The way he interacts with his audience and the passion he sings with will make you cry if you can translate the lyrics do it if not you'll love it anyways.
If no one has mentioned it yet, I'll give you a little trivia fact. The reason the guy playing the dad got the role in this video was because of the role he played in Animal House. Now that's a true American classic. If yous guys ever start doing movie reaction/reviews, Animal House should be at the top (or at least near the top of your) list.
In 1985, Dee Snider went up against Congress to stop Censorship of Rock music. Google. "When Dee Snider fought against censorship in the 1980s" and read the article. This man is awesome. =D This song was one of the "filthy Fifteen." by the "Parents Music Resource Center" They deemed it "objectionable because of the category its lyrical content falls into." If you can believe that! =D just read the article, it'll blow your mind. =D
Dee Snider. Saw the movie animal house. And said that guy reminded him of his father so he got him to play the part like he did from the movie only this time with a family. If you watch that movie you will see that guy
Dee Snider, the lead singer defended free speech in music. Tipper Gore, Al Gores wife tried to keep people from being riskaay in music because she bought her daughter a Prince record that had riskaay lyrics. She Tried keep music clean so Dee Snider and Frank Zappa went to bat for all music with full backing of 2 live crew. 2 live crew is a hip hop freaky group and have super dirty sex lyrics with the exception of one song called, banned in the usa which is a plug from Bruce Springsteen "Born in the usa" witch is a song aimed at the government to make a point. Those men that i just mentioned are Rock royalty regardless of genre, they saved free speech with just a perantial advisory sticker that is still used today..
I think this is what got me into heavy metal at like age 11 back when this came out I think twist it sister was my first really heavy metal band I liked my family listen to classic rock like queen and stuff like that so I guess it was inevitable but I do listen to all genres of music and I mean all
The singer, Dee Snider, also did a ballad version for this song for child cancer. Check it out. It's under Dee Snider. The whole Stay Hungry album is great. "Burn in Hell", "Captain Howdy" & "Street Justice" (which the two songs go together for the story).
It's no movie clip. There was a (and maybe still are parents like that) lot of folks like that. The part of the dad was specially written for that guy. They even had to git the ok to use a few of the lines from the movie Animal House that he uses in this about being "worthless and weak". Y'all definitely have to check out Animal House with John Balushi.
ugh I hope you guys were told by earlier commenters that the dad actor was redoing his role from the very famous movie Animal House which you guys should also see! It's a comedy.
They said the video was tongue and cheek and was actually inspired by the wyle Coyote cartoons. About 2 years later Dee Snyder(lead vocalist) fought against a political group called the P.M.R.C. who basically was out to ban rock music.
Look up Dee Snider playing Captain Howdy in his movie he did!! He does a great job!! And maybe look at the video he did about 3 years ago about kids with cancers and he tone this song down bigtime slow version! Its beautiful!

Awsome reaction to an Awsome song and Awsome band. Used to be my favorite group. Still Love them. 😄😀😁😃
Love you guys and the fact you learning as you go Love Twisted Sisters. Got one for you.( Juan Gabriel). Hasta que te conocí.. live from institute of Bella's artes video... He's Mexican I'm Cuban but this guy's voice, talent and stage presence is mind blowing everyone in Latino America loves his music you will enjoy even without speaking Spanish promise. The way he interacts with his audience and the passion he sings with will make you cry if you can translate the lyrics do it if not you'll love it anyways.
great to see young people enjoying metal
Dee Snyder has one serious voice. He's just one of us. Takes his family out in public, takes his Mustang to car shows.
That was a great song and great band to watch live
If no one has mentioned it yet, I'll give you a little trivia fact.
The reason the guy playing the dad got the role in this video was because of the role he played in
Animal House.
The queens of hair rock!😂☮️
Dee Snider did a great acoustic version of this a few years back
It is amazing.... I never knew he had such a good voice wow
Love Livvy's reaction, Own your house, woman. You go girl.
Dee Snider. Saw the movie animal house. And said that guy reminded him of his father so he got him to play the part like he did from the movie only this time with a family. If you watch that movie you will see that guy
Happy Easter to you both
You guys prove.. there IS hope for your generation :)
Dee Snyder intentional had the dad reprise his role from the movie Animal House with John Belushi
Yes the PRMC. Wasp also testified
@@timw6690 cancel culture back in the day and still going on today with little to no change
The way she was looking when the dad yelling was like "I wish he would yell at me like that" haha yall awesome real talk
Deep Snider has to be one of the greatest front man in metal
This was back in the early 80's on piece of information he was a Marine Corp drill instructor
Guys this is the scene that the actor playing his dad played in Animal House.,
K knew Livey would be in her feelings from the jump. Well played, sir.
I met the lead singer. He told me FU. We was about to squabble. Good old days.
Watch the singer Dee Snider testifying before a government panel about music censorship
ugh I hope you guys were told by earlier commenters that the dad actor was redoing his role from the very famous movie Animal House which you guys should also see!
