The raw honesty and introspection in this is touching in the right way. No overblown emotionalism or contrived sob stories, just a man baring is soul without complaint or embellishment.
I agree. It has a "slice of life" perspective. No need for being melodramatic.
RIP Doug Rogers and Great sensei Masahiko Kimura.
I come back to this video a few times a year, and got me through my toughest training period.
Brilliant insight into a time of Judo and Martial Arts lost with time. Can’t help thinking Doug sounds a lot like Clint Eastwood in this too! 😂. RIP Doug, exceptional Judoka and Kimura who was simply the judo GOAT.
He also looks so much like Val Kilmer I think…

Followed a link from Greg’s Airplanes video on the Ki84, he briefly spoke about master Kimura. All this while doing some light woodwork with a Japanese saw, a moment of serendipity.
