Great to see all your preparations for your trip, Attila. Having experienced a similar problem with my FJ with the antenna on the front bull bar, have you considered a rear mount antenna that attaches to the rear door doesn't have as many vibrations to work things loose. I don't think I'll place a link here for you. If you need to know more, just give me a p.m., and I'll send you the link. It's relatively inexpensive, and there's no cutting of wires. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing your big trip.
Thanks very much Ed! I already have an antenna on the back door hinge. I’ve used a spring washer so hopefully it will hold! All the best! 🙂👍
🎉👍
As a plumber we use a product called loxeel on threads. It would be great for your antenna
For the phone booster, grab a spring washer and separate it just enough to get over the cable then clamp back to where it was with vice gripsdone did it with mine worked a treat 👍🍻
Awesome! Thanks heaps!! 🙂👍
For the uhf base, get your self ... Champion washers in packets from Repco .they are called Shakeproof Internal or external star washers take the one you like. They bent with little force ,cut it and feed it onto the base ,do the base nut back up and bob's your uncle..Spotted your on Monday wish you had stayed.Wish you good travels.Don't forget to allow Sue a drive🤣🤣
Thanks heaps for the advice. Will go to Repco today.
Feel free to say g’day if you spot us around town anywhere!! 🙂👍
Nice work and good luck to you both.
Thankyou kindly! 🙂👍
I really like your Starlink PVC pipe setup. Plus great find on the Starlink dish bag. 👍
Thankyou. Suzy was the one that found the bag. Perfect fit. 🙂👍
Thanks for the close up of the heat exchanger, still finding the time to fit mine. Rhino backbone are prone to cracking at that location, always worth a close inspection every few months with a small mirror on a stick. Looking forward to the next videos! Nice work and good luck with the trip.
Thanks! My last one lasted about 8 years… maybe partly good luck. I’ll do regular checks from now on. 🙂👍
Coming to you from Thailand wow have we got some new subs, will be back in feb to do some touring catch you then
Awesome! Catch up with you then. 🙂👍
Artie - love your vids
Thankyou kindly!! 🙂👍
Have a safe trip. Enjoy
Thankyou 🙂👍
Have a fantastic trip 👍
Thankyou kindly!! 🙂👍
Transverse chassis vibration seems to be a feature of the modern independent front suspension vehicles at speed on rough roads (physics and suspension geometry)
- you dont feel it in the cab due to well engineered vibration isolation.
- the chassis (bullbar direct mounted to chassis) feel the full vibrations.
- these lateral vibrations are likely a major contributor to things coming loose on the bullbar
- So, step up hte mounting security, short bolts and lock washers likely will not cut the custard.
- longer bolts will help. (use a decent spacer tube to allow for the longer bolt) the longerthe bolt, the more spring streatch it has, and this is good. (think of the bolt as a spring. A fastner nut will only come loose if it is momemtarly in fresh air due to vibration. A long spring ( bolt) can better clamp the assembly and prevent the freshair movements that undo the nuts.
- theu use of "structural" / hardened steel washers can help too as opposed to normal mild steel "bunnings" washers
The lazymans way is to use locktight on the fastners or use nylock nuts (not to be resued many times as the friction locking decreases a bit with use)
just some thoughts on not having things fall off in your travels
Thankyou so much - that actually makes sense when you think about it. I’m on the road right now, day 1 of trip and that bracket broke today, so I will be finding a new one in the next day or two and will try using longer bolts as per your suggestion! 🙂👍
Add an icemachine and you are set !
Now you’re talking!! 😂👍
Sounds like you're doing the CSR then... great stuff mate. Enjoy.
Wish it was - but the FJ just doesn’t have the range I think. Plus I would need about 6 weeks. The CSR, which is on my bucket list, is for another time. 🙂👍
How much do you charge to install a hot water system like that in my FJ? 😂
Great setup all around, wishing you safe travels!
Your next trip sounds exiting. Good luck. Question: Do you have the all-up-weight of the vehicle fully loaded, fuel, water etc and with the 2 of you in the car as well? Would be interesting to know as I have an FJ as well.
First! How's it going Arty? Looking forward to seeing you on this trip!
I’m going great thanks. I’m looking forward to the trip too!! 🙂👍
Well done with your prep. I would suggest though you have some flexibility in where you put the Starlink dish. After just completing a lap I know you can’t always guarantee a great position for both the RTT orientation and the Starlink dish if you have to always put it on the front of the car. (We use a RTT too). Hence I use the base that I can put anywhere so long as the cable reaches and honestly could not have done without it as we used Starlink pretty much daily.
Thankyou. Yes, I have a base for the dish too so I can always just move it to where it’s best positioned. 🙂👍
How many KM’s do you have on your FJ?
About 190,000
For the first 9.3km of fuel 😛
Thankyou kindly!! 🙂👍
How is your leg mate?
Leg is 99.9% now. Thanks for asking! 🙂👍
