Nice method Tim! I spray painted all of my traps last season. It worked just fine even for my land sets. So, I've decided to stay with that method. Take care!
Yea, I use that method. In my opinion it's the best way to protect traps when water trapping.
Great video, cheers!👍
Excellent Meat Trapper, going to try your idea tomorrow on my water traps, love your traditional hands on ingenuity, so refreshing.
Alaska John
This intro is the coolest one.
EXCELLENT info my friend. I used 2 parts acetone & 1 part oil base rustoleum & It was even better from my point of view. My snares came out great with this mix also. Thanks again for the tip : )
frank Good deal!
Awesome tip! Thank you ! I will give it a try !
I used to put nails in my footholds when I dyed them. Now I just put part of the chain between the jaws.
Rick woodmeister That is a great tip! Thank you!
Tim. Great info - I've been using this method for years on all my traps - good protection , wears like iron .on my grippers and snares I'll put a few stripes of Od green and a tan color spray paint after the base coat - makes them almost invisible in the woods - really enjoy ur Chanel BTW - best regards brother. - Carl
So far its been great. I think this is all im going to use from now on. No more dip. Im letting my snares sit out for a few weeks and Ill treat them as well. Great tip on streaking with tan and OD .

love the video looking forward to all your videos GOD BLESS
Yay trapping season!
Lol He told me y'all had been teasing each other over show closing music - look forward to ur footage with the Fremont - I'll be trying them and the belisle this fall , been neck snaring hogs for several years but have not used the foot snares yet - know there will be a learning curve to them- be safe
great info
Great video
Have you tried this on coyote traps as well? I'm curious on how it compares to other dips for land traps. Have you ever tried any of the oil based concrete sealers? I don't know how durable that coating would be. It seems that on oil-based floor finish for wood may work as well. I know some people use floor wax but an oil based wax or sealer would work on land and water. A water based one would really only work on land as the water would soften a water based finish. How did this thickness work on snares? I would think you could easily have one part more acetone and it would be thick enough to stay on a snare.
How long before you can use them after this process, enjoy your vids, thanks
traps look great, good luck with your control job.take care
Thanks buddy!
what camera u use on the intro u in the boat..sharp vide
I'm considering doing this with my wolf traps, paint them white so they don't "shadow" through the snow.
Chip and I where just talking bout u yesterday , we where discussing business ideas, filming, editing for a hog snaring project coming up this fall - hope to bump into ya somewhere down the trail - keep up the great videos - Carl
Chip is a great guy, even if his taste in music is highly questionable :). Im really enjoying his 330 pans. im planning on using the Fremont snare on hogs this year. Never used it before so we'll see.
Hey Tim very great work you have done for this channel and your broadcasts on trapping radio I listening to them every Monday night and all your points you make are spot on and I appreciate you teaching younger men like me trapping skills and common sense keep up the good work
Thank you sir. Im glad they are useful. if you wver have any questions let me know.
+The Meat Trapper welcome and will do
Have you ever tried Rustoleum Enamel spray paint for traps??
Great tips sir... every year I buy couple of different bottles of spray paint (green, black, brown, grey) and I spray paint all of my connis, just like you chowed in one of your videos long time ago. Works great and I like when my connis look neat ;) I one of those pictures, I see that on some of your 330s the springs are compressed. Do you keep them like that all year around or you unarm them? According to you, how long they can stay armed?
Manufacturers claim that doesn't matter compessed or not.
Thanks Trapper, it's hot in NC as well. Stay hydrated.
Excellent tip!
I am fairly new to trapping and I'm wondering how this paint dip method has held up for you... durability, function? Do you need to redip each year?
I scored a mixed grab box of fifty brand new traps (included a Bridger #3, 4 CS, lam and OS jaw) all for $100 from a store exiting the trapping market. This dip paint method looks easy.
Excellent channel by the way.. I've been going back through your videos. I also purchased your video: Learn to trap - Trapping 101. So much much to learn but very easy to understand as you present it.
One more question on snares.. I here that most of the time they are a 1 time use/catch... correct?
Thanks for the video...
Yes - snares are a 1 time deal. The animal will twist the cable so badly they cannot be reused. I usually dip every 2 or 3 years - not every year. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I was given some longspring and coilspring traps that are quite rusted. Any advice on how best to clean them up before this trapping season?
Soak in a mix of vinegar and water for a couple days. About a gallon of Vinegar with a couple gallons of water. Water will turn orange from the rust, traps will turn black. Rinse the traps off and allow to dry for a day or two. then you can drip or paint them
+Jon Burnett Thank you.
New trapper here. If I paint my traps does that alleviate the need to wax them or does a thin coat of wax still help?
I never use wax. I believe wax holds odor. I simply paint or dip and give them time to air out. Thats one reason to go ahead and do it now rather than wsit till the last minute.
i have a question! please respond! i wanted to experiment with rustolium! painted som beaver foothold... it was so slick my traps wouldnt hardly set! made them very dangerous.... i am terified to do that to my conibears for the fact i dont want a broken arm...
Zac Nead just take a file and file off the paint from the dog and trigger area of the trap.
thankyou for the response! and that is what i did! should i do the same to my conibears? or could i use a small peice of tape to put over the dog and trigger?
Genius
If your familiar with dog proof traps, any thoughts on how your paint idea would work? Btw great site!!
This should work just fine for DP's. You may want to thin it out a little bit more just to make sure the trigger down inside doesn't get gunked up too much.
Thanks for the tip!
No problem. Thanks for watching!
MT I have used your 1:1 dark brown mix. Had a few new traps, 110s and a few foot holds. At first I thought the mixture was too thin, but did it any way, turned out great! Not sure about Bama, but with Georgia's red clay, I think they will work just fine. Waiting to see how the mix works for snares, you said you were still playing around with the formulas with that maybe 2:1 or more. Let us know, thanks for all your advice!
What about galvanizing?
Like and enjoy always greetings from Germany to everyone 🍀👍🍀
How did they hold up?
Very well. Much better than dipping.
Great idea thanks for sharing!
For your 330's for beaver trapping......is dark brown your preferred color of choice to dip and or paint them? I have 6 new fresh out of the box 330's that I cleaned off all of the oil and am letting them lightly rust up a bit. Would you recommend a solid color or break it up by shooting some spray paint with camo like colors to it?
Thanks for any feed back.
I used to try and splotch them up, but I've found that if I paint a solid color that as I use them they get mud on them, and some areas wear so it ends up being a bit splotchy on it's own. I don't bother with going to a lot of trouble to camo them. Just protect them and make them dull.
+The Meat Trapper Great! Thank you for the feedback.
Tried that an land traps????
One Aktion says more than 1.000 !
What is the theory with the added acetone?
It thins the paint so that it does not cake up on the trigger of the trap.
Hey Meat Trapper,do you use that system on snares?Looks great!
I am going to thin out the paint a bit and try it on snares next. I'll post a video showing the results.
You could set each trap and then paint it.
thanks for the great tip !!
Thanks for watching!
Yer welcome sir !!
👍👍👍👍👍
Are you still happy with this method for body grip traps?
Yes
I have tried Andy’s speed dip. It seems to take 2 years to dry and some traps won’t stay set. I just left my 330’s outside all year and am using them. Better results but I want them to last forever! Lol
vg thx liked
How long should ya leave them to dry for scent?
Jon Sorensen I'd answer, but I've been told I talk too much.
interresting way to try thanks for the share
Thanks for watching!
you do u get it off if you want to
My black walnut hulls aren't expensive.
I boil and wax mine still.
Just 1 quart Paint and 1 quart paint thinner??
Is you only have a few traps then yes. If you have more traps then you will need more oaint and thinner.
+The Meat Trapper do you think it will be enough for about 19 conibears (only two are 220) and 7 footholds?? (Biggest is a #2)?
+Jacob Barlow I would use two quarts each of paint and thinner. You'll probably have some left over, so save the paint cans. You can use the leftover to redip later when needed.
+The Meat Trapper ok thanks! On my way to get it now! I'll let ya know the results
+The Meat Trapper WOW!! I just checked on them and I couldn't be happier with the results! I got 1 part 1 part and a barely got away with it!! Thank for the help brotha! It dye took 4 | Duke #2
2 | Duke # 1 1/2
6 | Duke # 1
1 | Duke # 11 LS
14 | Duke and Alcatraz # 110
3 | Duke #160
And a Duke and Alcatraz #220 with about a water bottle sized cap spare! (For anyone that wonders how many traps the dye will take) Thanks again bud!!
Meat trapper how about mix it with gas
Would you please tell who sales 660 conibear ! And their phone no. Thanks !
CRUEL!!!!!!
Yes, I agree - painting traps is very cruel!!
Meat trapper how about mix it with gas
That will work - I just don't like the smell.
