Hey everyone. I produced that song along with artist Diesel about three years ago. I also played bass, guitar and keys. Oh, and those deep vocals are mine too. Let me assure you that the studio the song was recorded in wasn't anything like the one in this video! Digital as can be and tiny... Joe, Joe Public Studios. Great sounding mix!

@@joelonsdale I prefer RnB but this has become one of my favorite songs. I listen to it every chance I get on youtube. Its a BADASS song and a BADASS mix. I really started to think nobody mix songs like this anymore. I miss it and thats why I prefer analogue mixing...its fun and creative. Who cares if digital can sound just as good! I want the engagement like this guy...I like watching him work!!! keep doing it bro... you brought me back to the 90's mix scene...Thanks again to both the artist and the mix engineer.

@@DanDuskin are you doing mainly a top down mix? Adding HPF on things that are getting in the way and then putting it through the master buss compressor. Do you have the Pultec before or after the compressor?

theres nothing like the sound when a Pultec is engaged. instant warmth. that low end boost is so damn tight and phat. is a mix truly ever finished without the SSL bus comp? I say no

Hey Daniel! I’ve been working a lot of overtime saving up for outboard gear. It really is the way to go over even UAD plugs IMO. I am currently building my mix bus and bought a rack version of the SSL G bus comp and SSL Fusion, which to me kills the Neve Portico 2 MBC. This stuff as you know is very expensive so I wanted your opinion on a mix bus EQ. Manley Massive Passive, Chandler Curve Bender or Pultec EQP-1A3 (pair). Also, EQ is last in the chain? I thought it was first. Do I need a summing mixer (i.e Neve 8816, Neve Orbit, Burl 32 etc)? Lastly, Do I need converters if I have an Apollo quad? Thx! You definitely set the bar!
oh hell. i haven't done *any* mixing in a few years and wanted a sample to play with... first time I've ever heard this song was finding the stem files on a website... I've spent the past six hours working on it, then came on youtube to find out what the official studio version sounded like compared to mine... typed it into the search box and found /this/ video. damn. this is great. :)

Thanks for asking, Vicky. The audio at the beginning (the click) is form the camera's microphone and the rest of the audio is coming directly from the console.

Now I really want to take the multitrack into my school's duality and see how long it takes me to get a solid mix. I kinda suck but I've never really thought about the concept of speed mixing before and now I want to try it.
I'll have to tell the drummer I'm recording soon that if we finish quickly that he'll get to laugh at me while I fall miserably.
Also because you had your patches pre-planned, I'm gonna do the same cause I don't want to be thinking about where the I/O for the fucking Urei is while I'm trying to figure out why the group lights for channel 9 are off even though it's clearly working with the VCA)

Since this source was digital, how do you get that into an analog console? Totally ignorant of production methods.
thats amazing i always throw the UAD pulteqs on my mix bus when i mix in the box. so cool to see someone who does it outboard. I don't even touch any knobs, just inserting them is enough to beef up anything.

Just Google pultec eq trick. Boost and cut the low frequency and it creates a beautiful low end.
