As a Jets fan since 1962, I can add the following: 1. People romanticize the Rex Ryan era. I didn't. He was a braggard who allowed a toxic locker room to develop. His mouth made promises his coaching skills couldn't deliver. 2. When Bill Parcells was hired he was given complete control of all team personnel hires, not just players. He loaded up the scouting department and front office with excellent talent. However, he had no desire to work with Woody Johnson so he quietly resigned. Fortunately, his hires mostly remained in place for another decade or so. Since they have left, the team has descended into its current playoff abyss. 3. John Idzik gets unfairly blamed for the Jets problems. He was brought into to solve salary cap problems and rebuild the roster. However, he was not on the same page as his coach, Rex Ryan, who felt the need to win now. In the end, both were fired. 4. Mike Maccagnan was a complete drafting disaster. His only good picks were his first round picks. This should be a given since the Jets were usually picking very high. But few of his remaining picks even made the roster. As of November 2019, none of his draft picks from 2015 or 2016 were on the Jets roster. Today, on Quinnen Williams remains on the Jets roster. 5. Adam Gase was a disaster of biblical proportions. He simply had no clue on how to develop talent. 6. Robert Saleh has done a remarkable job developing talent on the defense. Perhaps his future lies in being a defensive coordinator somewhere. 7. Joe Douglas is not without significant blame. He whiffed on Mekhi Becton and Zach Wilson. His 2023 first round pick of a developmental pass rusher was questionable at best. This player may have a chance to shine now that the trade for Haasan Riddick has blown up. And let's not forget his failure to sign a competent backup QB for 2023. 8. Much of the Jets 21st century misery falls squarely on the owner, Woody Johnson, a game show host masquerading as an NFL owner. Of course, he could sell the team to someone like Daniel Snyder or David Tepper, so maybe we are better off with a game show host rather than a complete A-hole.

It's almost an exact copy of the Brett Favre signing from 15 or so years ago, except that Favre actually played, and decently well at that. Only time will tell if Rodgers ends up retiring only to un-retire and finish his career in Minnesota.
This would break 2 curses at once, considering after Rodgers one sb win he's failed to even make another appearance since. He's been chasing a second appearance for practically his entire career. He's literally the most overhyped superstar qb.

Namath played for the Jets for 12 seasons. They had a winning record for only three of those seasons - the season they won the Super Bowl and the two previous ones. Namath is in the NFL Hall of Fame. Meanwhile - Jim Plunkett is not despite winning two Super Bowls (as many as both Eli and Peyton Manning) and having a win loss percentage of .500 vs Namath's .496. Such is life.

I was very young at the time, but the Chad Pennington era is fascinating in retrospect. He was essentially in today's game drafting a 2nd-3rd round qb that turned into a starter, which still even adds up as he was a late 1st round pick. He didn't have arm talent, but was a goat game manager. It just sets you up to be mediocre and never be able to get over the hump. They were never able to score a lot of points, or get a huge play when needed, but he could get first downs and make long drives into points. Which is good enough be a consistent playoff team, but his arm held them back from going to the next level. The Favre era is also laughed at by many, but they looked like one of the best teams in regular season before it imploded. It was crazy cause what should be looked at as this highly regarded qb, didn't really move the needle for the public in terms of picking them to be really good, and they overperformed until the end of the year. It was fun to watch. Rex Ryan created hype by getting headlines in the media, which made them look scary when they won, but if they're having a losing season you can see how this directly correlates to a toxic locker room and team. Sanchez was too inconsistent, he had his moments, but the butt fumble cemented his legacy on the other side of ironically just being ass dispite having so much success as a team during this period. Sounded like you had no idea who Greg McElroy was. He went undefeated and won the BCS National Title at Alabama. He wasn't a highly regarded pro prospect, but he was far from a scrub. Also worth noting how both in 1986 and 2011 there was some preseason Jets hype, only for the Giants to end up winning the SuperBowl. Thought you would mention Victor Cruz scoring a 99 yard TD from Eli Manning in that Christmas Eve game in 2011. Both teams needed the win to have a playoff shot.
Greg went to one of the richest high schools that would donate millions to their booster club. His team was riddled with D1 athletes. From there he went and played at Alabama where he was surrounded by an incredible back field and an even better defense. I went to his pro day in southlake Texas he wasn’t good, and any nfl scouts that saw him saw a QB who never had to be challenged . He was a scrub.
It just occurred to me...TubFrog; you made an entire documentary about the Jets, found a way to make the whole thing funny but not even say the word 'buttfumble' and you only showed the 'buttfumble' for something like 10 seconds. This is a Masterpiece!
Thank you TubFrog for your knowledge and its presentation. Im very new to the NFL my first exposure been the most recent super bowl, im from New Zealand so rugby is our sport and the NFL is basically non existent. I appreciate the effort that must go in to these videos and I look forward to all your future projects. Since im a kiwi and have no state/city allegiance to a particular team and have not made a decision on what team to support. If you have any suggestions for a team that can make me cheer then make me want to send my TV through the wall that would be much appreciated
I was waiting for this one. I've never been a Jets fan, but I grew up watching Chad Pennington, Brett Favre, and Mark Sanchez, so I'm familiar with their plight. And now they officially have the longest active playoff drought across major North American pro leagues. I wish someone would convince the ownership to install better grass at MetLife Stadium, as if that would make any difference whatsoever.
As a Jets fan, I stopped watching at 17.23 because nothing bad happened after that, so the remainder of the video is irrelevant. Nothing. Bad. Happened.
I don't care about his foot fetishes: I'm a big Rex Ryan fan. My personal dream is to be either an NFL QB or head coach like a wrestling heel, and Rex is the closest I can get to living that out vicariously. Not quite Ravishing Rick Rude, but close enough.
Jokes aside. I feel for Sam Darnold getting Mono. Got it in my 20's. Fucking nearly died. Took me a full 8 months to recover. And even then, it took me a year to get my full apetite back and to feel physically strong again. I wouldn't be surprised to learn his entire career got affected by it.
@@johnchedsey1306 it genuinely is awful. How people describe bad the worst cases of 'vid is how I felt with Mono for a month. I could hardly do anything but sleep. Lost a month of wages on top of nearly like 60 pounds. It is not a joke sickness at all. It floored me. Honestly, on top of making me laugh, this vid gave me a whole new level of respect for Darnold. Truth be told, I was also D1 athlete once upon a time, and I have no earthly clue how he's still a pro if he got Mono.
Mono can destroy careers. Case in point are 2 tennis players Mario Ancic and Robin Soderling. They were both top 10 tennis players who got mono in their mid 20s and their careers were never the same after they had mono. Even the great Roger Federer had it when he was 27 in 2008 and it took nearly a full season to fully recover from it. The fact that Sam came back in a few weeks and picked up from where he left off is respectable.

You got me addicted to these
NEW TUBFROOOOOOG
you make the best NFL content man, appreciate your work
Thank you TubFrog for your knowledge and its presentation.
As a Jets fan I can't in good will suggest being a Jets fan :(
The Jets ButtFumbled by injuring Drew Bledsoe
I absolutely love these long videos youre doing. Must take forever to make though
you know its gonna be a banger video when tub starts out with "ok so"
I was waiting for this one.
So happy to see this video pop up 🎉
As a Jets fan, I stopped watching at 17.23 because nothing bad happened after that, so the remainder of the video is irrelevant.
Nothing.
Bad.
Happened.
I don't care about his foot fetishes: I'm a big Rex Ryan fan. My personal dream is to be either an NFL QB or head coach like a wrestling heel, and Rex is the closest I can get to living that out vicariously. Not quite Ravishing Rick Rude, but close enough.
THANK YOU DUDE. I need more of this. I know I complained once about how long a video was but I was just cracking jokes!!! Keeep em coming bro
Damn dude! That genuinely sounds awful.
Namath was one of the last true American superstars ( before cameras were everywhere) Elvis, the rat pack , sinatra etc… that type of era and stars are never going to return it’s crazy to think of because a famous person can’t go to the gas station without getting caught on cam there is no more “infamous stories”
Thank you for doing these videos. I can't wait for the one about the Buccaneers
1:03:19 ALL THAT TAPE…FOR NOTHING?!?!?!
@@Theotherotherguy-36 I try brother. His escape is inevitable
17:23 Nah not Secret Base legend Mike Imhoff lmao (who's also a Jets fan)
Also picking Roger Vick never ceases to make me laugh + Rozelle and the crowd reaction.
You’re telling me my entire life the Jets haven’t had a home playoff game
Mark Gastineau, Curtis Martin, Al Toon, and... um... Brett Favre.
Finally a video of yours about a team that I root, been 20 long years with them
You got something wrong. Gase was hired first and then the next year the Jets brought in Joe Douglas.
bro, i know it probably wasnt intentional but the ok at the beginning of the video is so iconic and makes me know im about to watch a quility yt video, thanks for that
🎉 TubFrog’s back in person. Looks like you’re back at school….. with your poster still in view. I’ve been waiting for this……
As a Washington fan, I can relate to the Jets constant misery 😭
That reaction of "Oh nooo," had me dying. It gets funnier every time I replay it 🤣
DOPE Hieroglyphics hat guy!!
