  • Taka Bonerate National Park is a marine park that has the third largest atoll area in the world after Kwajifein in the Marshall Islands and Suvadiva in the Maldives Islands. The total area of this atoll is 220,000 hectares with a distribution of coral reefs reaching 500 km². This area is located in Takabonerate District, Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Since 2005, Taka Bonerate National Park has been nominated by UNESCO to become a World Heritage Site. In the series of Selayar Islands Anniversary at this location, every year a festival entitled Sail Taka Bonerate or previously called Takabonerate Island Expedition is held.
There are as many as fifteen islands in the Taka Bonerate National Park so it is great for diving, snorkeling, and other marine tourism. The topography of the area is very unique and interesting, where the atoll which consists of a cluster of charred islands and wide and submerged reef flats, forms a large number of islands. Between the charred islands, there are narrow straits that are deep and steep. While on the flat surface of the reef, there are many small deep pools surrounded by coral reefs. At the lowest tide, dry land is clearly visible and interspersed with puddles that form small pools.
