The guy made primo deniro and left a legacy to be proud of -- even without having ever been champion. He's accomplished quite a bit. It's funny to watch people talk shit about him, as if they've done more, or could have done what he did.
Josh Lavian i feel the same way. Mma fans have a short memory. I remember hardly knowing anything about him and waiting to see Silva shut him up. Then being like “wtf” for 5 rounds. He’s literally fought every mma legend he’s had the chance to, and usually given them some kind of trouble. He’s a beast!!
I don't think they talk shit on him they just meme him because he's a legitimately funny guy, but I do think the memes distract people from chaels actual skill, he was one of the best grapplers in mma imo
He beat Paulo Filho in a fight scheduled to be a title fight. They just didn’t have a rule for if the champ missed weight yet, so even though Chael did his part & still won, he didn’t get to become champion.
I think Chael wants to move. Could you imagine being in front of him at a Chinese buffet? He'd be going up to people pulling food off their plates yelling, "My wonton! My rangoon! My meat on a stick!"
Chael is a hypocrite, all through his career it was all his round, his round, his round, but he never let anyone win a round over him. Never lost a round. Undefeated and undisputed.
Well... opening the guard with the elbow is a big mistake. The “theory” or “philosophy “ of what he’s saying is very good though... but the elbow... wao!
Can someone explain the comments critiquing opening with the elbow? I do this all the time and not only is it my favorite way to pass, but I haven’t ever felt extra at risk for a triangle or arm from there, more than I would be if i wasn’t using my elbow.
Michael B It's a dangerous and sexy game. If you drop one elbow, opponent may go over it with leg for triangle. Sometimes you can bait a triangle for a pass though 🤷♀️
You leave yourself open for triangles and armbars. When you get taught a triangle usually you're taught to punch the their arm into them, if you open with the elbow you're doing it for them pretty much. A lower rank won't seize the moment but an upper rank will catch you in it.
the irony of it is, Chael's career would have been much much better if he believed in this philosophy enough. He always had huge problems with triangles and armbars that he could have avoided had he not been so comforitable being in his opponents full guard.
I think those are kind of old habits of him being a wrestler. BJJ guys learn to keep their hands on their opponents midsection, where as a wrestler may not see anything wrong with placing them on the ground for balance, which a recipe for getting submitted.
Good advice except pushing the legs open with your elbow. This is MMA not grappling. Hit his thigh with your elbow to make him open his legs. Don't use your strength and waste your energy
He is teaching a lot of judo for being a "not judo lover" ....juji gatame, Ude Garami, Okuri Eri Jime. Call it what ever you want but BJJ = Judo Kosen.
@@milosmilosavljevic2288 someone choked me out once from there. Would it then be called a "dead dog choke"? I actually had him in guard and I guess I reached across too far. Since then I've been trying to dead dog people but despite trapping them well, have yet to get a tap
@@juntjoonunya9216 dead dog is a control position primarily, but you can set up a lot of attacks from there, darces especially. The dead dog choke is also a good option, but you need to have good chest pressure.
Chael consistently comes across as a great coach.
I know Chael is a meme but sometimes you just forget he's actually high level. It makes you wonder just how good Chael is.
TheSubieFan where does Kevin lee fit into this video?
Not for bjj, but his wrestling in mma was top god damn notch. Watch his ascendancy in the ufc. Freaking glorious.
He beat the shit out of Silva lol. Chael was a badass and it still is. Shoutout and hands up for Uncle Chael!

Chael keeping that wrestler mentality, I like it

Thanks Bjj Fans & Chael American Gangster for this great content
Love to watch Chael showing wrestling moves all day. They guy has awesome way of telling a story.

Great video. Thank you, Chael.
I've heard that so many times on a wrestling mat. "Nothing is lost until you stop moving". There is a lot of truth in that.
Indeed.. so condition and improve your gas tank to be able to move in any situation. If you are hard to control, you are hard to be beaten.

@Rami Ghazzawi Never really thought of doing that but definitely a good idea for the street
Aiming the knee to the balls when being pulled into the guard really works.
In MMA you wouldn't even need to break the closed guard open. Just throw some elbows and he'll open the guard himself.
