    You do a very thorough job of explaining what you are doing and why. A couple of things that might be confusing to folks new to using eq pedals: 1. Why bring it up on the amp and down on the pedal? The answer is that the mid bass and treble (if you have them on the amp) don’t line up exactly with the frequency bands on the eq. So you’re not literally adding and then removing the same frequencies the same amount. 2.Why is it better in the effects loop or at least after the distortion? This is largely because the amp doesn’t create frequencies. So, if signal isn’t coming in at a certain frequency, you’re not going to be able to adjust it on the amp. As you say: putting the eq right after the guitar can be fine; it’s just not going to get you quite as much flexibility. I use mine before the amp because all it’s doing for me is reducing bass when I turn on distortion. I could probably spend hours getting a better sound in the effects loop, but I make $0 a year playing guitar, lol.

    Basically, it's the "Mark" sound injected into one's amp with the V settings. Very cool!

    Most professional and down to earth review i've seen of this pedal. I see guys shit talking this thing online saying "Its not the same as the real deal" or something similiar. Of course its not the same but damn its gonna get you so close that the difference doesnt even matter. Whenever I can get my hands on one of these in Europe im gonna be a happy guy being an owner of a mark iii without the built in GEQ. Great review Lucas

    +/- 12db of boost or cut in each band of the five Slider pots is really a useful range of control to shape your tone/signal.

    WOW. That did help in enhancing some great tone, I would bet , that would work very well with my Marshal JCM 800. I have been thinking of getting an equalizer. Was going to look into the MXR, within a week or so, I think I will just get that one, that was Awesome

    • @LucasFowler

      One of these(or similar) in the FX loop of a Marshall with a boost in front can go a long way to tightening it up into a real firebreather!

      Lucas Fowler Hi Lucas, Happy 4TH, thanks fir getting back to me, I did order the Boogie 5 Band EQ, arrives this Wednesday, July 8th. And I also purchased An MXR Smart agate/ Noise Gate, it should be in Monday July 6TH,
      I been jamming a little today,
      Wow so in the loop, I want to take a picture of my pedal board and send it to you. I don’t know how to get the picture on here.my Santana is at PRS . Should be back the week after the 4th, after I seen your video on the metal pickups, I sent off the Santana the next day to PRS,

    As a kid(1993ish), I had a Peavy 2x10 starter amp, I always had the distortion wide open. Then, I always maxed out the high and the bass, then turned off the mids. My dad played guitar also, and he thought something was wrong with me, and my EQ preference, which lead to me thinking something was wrong with me, haha.

    It'd be really cool to hear this going into the FX Loop of an Orange Rockerverb. 👀🤔 i've done the EQ trick with a Zoom MS50G 6 band and a Crush Pro 120 and it got that amp in particular sounding so massive!

    Thanks for all the great content. I am curious if you could do a video on the slash technique for using an eq pedal in the effects loop by boosting the mids. The reason I ask is because you use the Hughes and Kettner black spirit 200 which is the exact amp that I use. I believe slash used the boss GE-7 eq pedal but I’m sure most we pedals would have a similar effect used in that way.

  • @ArtGuitarLTX

    When you pulled the mids around @08:32 from the pedal and the amp, sounded pretty, pretty, pretty.... pretty damn good. So at this point you have the pedal running in front of the amp at this point? I would say I as well am also a huge fan of JP but who isn't right? LOL. Killer vid. You made that H&K amp sound completely different! Awesome. I have the Mark V and i have the 750 all the way when I record and live I have it just about the first bottom line.

    • @LucasFowler

      Very important for these tones to run the EQ in the FX loop. You can get some great sounds with the pedal in front, but not THAT sound :)

    Great demo, do you still have the Mesa Mark?
    How long ago did you get rid of the GCP/GCX/G Major rig?

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  4 года назад

      I do still have the Mark IV. I still have the G Major, but I moved away from the rack set up because it was a gigantic pain to move around once I switched from an SUV to a compact car. Plus now with things like the Helix and Black Spirit I can have all the ease of switching I need and it still sounds plenty good enough for live use.

    the sound that your head makes is the best in itself. this equalizer only gets in the way. although its quality is much higher than that of the boss. I don't see any need to use additional enhancers in such cases.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  4 года назад

      Yeah I would say any decent EQ pedal in the FX loop will allow you to do something similar to this, it's just that Boogie's Five Band EQ has a particular frequency sweep that I find easiest to use to get *that* sound. I have gotten reasonably close with a Boss GE-7 before.

    The fact is you don't need that EQ with your massive ultra modern amp... so all you do is end up turning these knobs for nothing and wasting your time, and ours by the way.

  • @uri5isalive
    @uri5isalive 2 года назад

    Yeah this sounds nothing like a mark but ok. takes a lot more than a Mesa EQ to sound like a mark series. clickbait title.

    • @LucasFowler
      @LucasFowler  2 года назад +3

      I don't believe I said it sounds like a Mark anything. And the word "Mark" is not in the title.
      "Boogie" is a common colloquialism for "Mesa/Boogie" which refers to everything "Mesa Engineering" makes.
      I have had a Mark IV for more than a decade and I have used it for thousands of hours of practice, gigs and recorded 2 albums with it. I know what a Mark series amp sounds like.
      Obviously this Hughes And Kettner does not sound like a Mark anything, but you CAN do the same kind of thing with the Graphic EQ to make the amp tight and percussive.
