      @@OldCurmudgeon3DP I was actually trying to figure out just who this printer is for. Anyone getting into this hobby isn't going to drop $3,500 to test it out. There's lower cost printers that do the same for a very small fraction of this cost. Sure its nicer looking and is its own enclosure but you can accomplish the same under $500. With the extra $3000 saved you can buy all the filament currently available. You'd then need a room to store it in which might be a issue.

    Raft recommendation for mirror print is most likely because they probably disable mesh leveling since both extruders are always at the same height and thus can't compensate for the bed leveling for different parts of the bed simultaneously. What would be a great feature is if the prints print independently until they reach their "feather" height where both prints should now be at the same height and then both print at the same time from there on out.

    I am glad you had success with this printer. I bought one and have yet to have a single successful print, after about 50 tries and running the on-screen calibration process about 15 times. It is just JUNK in my opinion. I an not a printer novice. In fact, this is my sixth printer and the worst, by far. I think that sometimes engineers and marketers try to 'improve' and automate what really does not need to be changed. I have a Pro2 Plus and it has never had a single print fail, whether with TPU, ASA, PLA or PETG. Because I make a lot of little parts for motorcycles and outdoor equipment, I thought the IDEX would save me some time. No. This system has only caused me frustration and massive time and money loss. I just wanted to comment on this since I feel a lot of your viewers base their choices on your excellent results.

    I print ABS at 235 on the Pro2 (MatterHackers ABS) to minimize temperature difference and thus warping. Higher temps (250+) tended to scorch, and 235 to 240 was the sweet spot.

    They updated the spool holders to something that can pull the filament more efficiently, so that's good. They added auto tramming because a perfectly flat and level bed is usually expensive and heavy, and firmware compensation is comparatively easy.

    Enjoyed the review. I understand where they are selling and I guess the price reflects the needed accompaniments IE filtered enclosure, safety options ect. I don't quite get the leveling. For something so fundamentally important to the task. Each extruder should know where it's nozzle is in relation to the bed with user fine tuning at that price. That's my opinion. I welcome yours.

    But what about water soluble supports?!
    You mainly printed single filament (or mirroring) on a dual extruder/idex printer.
    What sensible guy would print two colors? That isn't nearly enough colors to make anything look good, you have to paint stuff to make it look good.
    At least in my view.
    So, I'd like to see how this printer handles water soluble supports and filament.
    Keep it up, you're awesome!

      This is a real challenge. But it's such a cool scan.
      And it's so cool that the Smithsonian are actually sharing their 3D scans. There are so many 3D scans done by museums and scientists. And they never share them. It's such a waste. So please make an effort on printing this. I bought a (much cheaper) idex printer to be able to print this scan. Prove to me that this printer at 8x the price does the job better than mine! :-)

    I may an outlier in your viewership here, but the concept of dual, independently driven extruders is new to me. Left extruder is sorta loud, right extruder can be heard through a closed door in the other room and sounds like a gravel crusher at some speeds. Have you had any such issues with yours? This is quite a bit louder than I was expecting.
    Should have added- I stripped off the extruders to get to just the bushing assembly itself to prove that it's the source of the noise. Left has a little play, right has a lot. I'm an engineer too and these aren't supposed to be sloppy. Defeats the whole point. It's as if it's out of tolerance.

    Slicing doesnt take that many resources, the files arent that big and if you want to connect to the outside web for camera access or even full control you can use OctoPrint

      Dad's Friendly Robot Company it really wasn’t “crashing” - that looked to me to be the BLTouch-like Auto bed leveling sensor used with the latest (well newer) firmware that has configurable “number of points to use for auto-leveling”.

      Also at least previous machines stole from the hobby by using proprietary builds of Marlin without contributing any of the modified code back to the community. I don't know whether this machine will repeat that pattern.

    Hello, I'm learning from your videos. I haven't seen anyone (including Raise3D) mention installation space for the E2. Meaning, what is the minimum depth (front to back) of a bench to hold this printer? Does is need additional airflow space that is behind it (if so, now much) or can be up against a wall behind it? I see you need 8" on either side for the spool doors. Thanks.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  3 года назад

      Here is the machine dimensions. 23.9×23.5×18.3 inch / 607×596×465 mm
      It'll fit on a 24" deep bench, and that's where I have mine. It should have *some* additional space behind it, but, it's not a metric where they specifiy. I would suggest a couple inches. Yeah, spool doors are on the side, and they require some spaces to open. I hope this helps.

    • @peterinpensacola
      @peterinpensacola 3 года назад

      @@3DPrintingNerd Thanks. I found a sketch of the back in their quick start guide and it shows the power cord plugs into the back bottom so that will add another 2" at least. I also heard the top cover takes encroaches into the space behind the printer when opened. Do you know how much? By the way, yeah you are taller in person than in your videos! Too funny. You really notice it when you met the folks at Raise3D in Irvine.

      I have a Tronxy and Ender 3 that both do just as well the Tronxy even has dual switching extruders. And yes before anyone says it the a modified and tweaked other than frame not much is original. However I still have no where near 3500 invested in the combined pair. Most of the printers you see on these channels are out of reach for your everyday user.

    • @3-E
      @3-E 4 года назад +3

      @@damo2142 you miss the point of these types of printers. Of course you can diy something as good or better for less. That's true of most things. You can build a car faster and better handling than a Ferrari for far less. But some people don't have the time to do the research and diy things. So a company can charge a premium for something that works really well with no fuss.

    • @damo2142
      @damo2142 4 года назад +4

      @@3-E I agree and there is a market for whatever you want and can afford. I was just stating a fact that expensive does not always mean better. However using your analogy of a Ferrari. Do you want a Ferrari or an excellent handling car because I can build an excellent handling car but not a Ferrari. I think to say 3500 is an excellent price is relative depending on what you are comparing.

    Hi Joel, Do you still have this printer? If so, how has it been working out for you? I purchased this printer last month and I've been trying to use it for 2-3 weeks now, and its been nothing but problems. Head crashes, cannot calibrate, runout sensors not working, ideamaker software problems, etc. They tried to re-flash the printer motor controller and main controller. Still can't get this printer to work reliably. I currently have 10+ tickets open, just wondering if you had similar issues. Thanks, Matt

    Been waiting for this to show up for a review, I am seriously thinking of this machine, the PRO was also in my sights I would have liked to have known how it performed with PVA supports or petg supports with pla, I print usable objects and functional objects to help others who have physical limitations, I struggle with PVA at moment and looking seriously at a viable Dual Head machine. I like a machine to be Quiet I was going to get E3D Tool changer but to noisy.

    one of the issues i'm finding with 3D printing is that the machines that are most user/beginner friendly also tend to be the most expensive. this is exactly what i wanted when i first began looking for a 3D printer, but with a pricepoint like that, well...an ender 3 has one less zero on the tag...

    What I want to see is not a particular model being built, but rather something about troubleshooting and maintenance. Specifically, will the user have to learn how to disassemble (and reassemble) the machine? For example, what happens if one of the extruders gets clogged?
    I've been using a Prusa MK3s, and it worked well until I got a filament jam. Reading the instructions for removing and repairing and reinstalling the hotted made me want to cry. With poor eyesight, I'm just not able to complete such a process. I need a 3D printer for making mathematical models, and the printer I get has to either come with on-site service OR must simply never break.
    Also, I need to decide between this machine and an Ultimaker S3. Comparison?

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  4 года назад

      I didn't experience any non-user introduced clogs in my testing. I know Raise3D has telephone support, and I've called it before. I think if a user ran into a clog, support would follow steps to get it cleared.

    • @RalphDratman
      @RalphDratman 4 года назад

      @@3DPrintingNerd Thank you for your reply! My problem with the Prusa MK3S is that I am not able to follow the standard instructions to disassemble, repair and reassemble the printer when, as recently happened, the hot end is so badly clogged that it cannot be fixed without removing it from the unit.
      When I buy a TIG welder or a rotary saw, I do not expect to disassemble them if anything goes wrong. Rather, I would send such items to a repair station or use whatever provision the manufacturer has made. But with many hobby-grade 3D printers, and certainly with the Prusa, that is apparently not an option.
      In the case of a TIG welder, I would be able to, say. take the ground lead off, check it for damage or corrosion and replace it. I could even do somewhat more complex repairs on a TIG torch. But I am never going to take the case off and try to fix a board level problem -- even though I. have extensive experience with electronics. It is just too risky and time-consuming for me to repair a deep problem in an expensive piece of equipment.
      My point is that I want to buy a 3D printer that is intrinsically reliable and also has a way to get repaired by the manufacturer or service center. I do not mind paying prices above hobby level for a 3D printer, like that but I won't buy another one that I am expected to perform complex repairs on -- though simple routine maintenance is fine.
