Good video I almost went to Boone yesterday to give them a try but decided to go down to Douglas for crappie and white bass didn’t catch any crappie but caught a few white bass But anyways keep up the good content
I only use Trout for bait in the warmer months of the year. During the winter, Striper prefer to feed on smaller sized threadfin around 2-3 inches long. At the end of the spring, when the water temps rise, they switch to larger Baits.
@@jprizzle2604 Agreed, I have no doubt you can catch them year round on Trout. I just follow the feeding habits and use the bait they feed on per season. Seems like this time of year is the most effective time to use trout.
That depends on what time of year you’re fishing for a Striper. In the winter time, I prefer the fish in the middle toward the South Holston Side. In the spring, you can find them running up both sides. In the summer you can find them down deep where the water is coldest full of oxygen.
Well, there’s a couple different ways to approach it this time of year. The striper most likely are feeding early in the morning or late in the evening at sunrise and sunset and all night as well. During those times you can troll very shallow with no weight. Mid day however a lot of people prefer to downrig by dropping down bait to the very bottom and then pulling it up a couple feet off the bottom and letting it suspend. I’ll be attempting a Striper video this evening so I’ll keep you posted
When it’s cold I typically troll 15 to 5 feet deep. At least to the zones I like to fish. Early in the morning and late in the day at Sunrise and sunset you can find them up high feeding on Shad at the surface
I went to Boone TVA on Washington's Birthday (mine too) But TVA decided to repave and re stripe the lot. I put the kayak in near hamilton rd/anchor point. caught nothing, but a beautiful day. 3/4 I tried again of the deep pool across from TVA launch. nothing again. I reference depth charts, but I don't have a fish finder. Using shiners varying 35 -15 foot deep and casting a plastic shad jerk. I was thinking it is "winter" and stripers are laying in the deep near the dam. But seeing the fish you just caught, they are looking pre-spawn and are probably starting to move up stream now?
Yeah, in the last few weeks the shad went from deep to shallow. I think they’ll be on the move very soon if they aren’t already. I would start fishing 15 to 20 feet deep and covering water between mile marker six and seven
Are you asking what baits to use that you can buy from the store or where to throw the smaller Castnet? Right now all the bait are up within the 15 foot range so you may be able to get Bait wherever there are seagulls. A lot of people will use shiners or trout minnows as well
Good video as usual Michael I catch a lot of big stripers for watauga river runs in on the Pickens bridge side of Boone and believe it or not I catch a lot of chicken livers
I like watch Striper fishing vids, but maybe you don’t need to finish every other sentence with “you guys”. We know you’re talking to the us the viewers. You don’t need to mention us.
Thanks for your feedback, that is one of my older videos where I still say that quite a bit. If you watch the new content the production value has gotten much better.

Thanks, appreciate the kind words. I can’t wait to get into some white bass soon
By the way - that last comment was only meant as a suggestion. Keep making your vids. Fisherman can’t get enough.
I understand, definitely said it too much earlier on.
I am going to check Boone lake out. Headed to the Tri Cities in June
Excellent, a great place to fish
Should have used the trout for bait, striper love trout

@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher I have always done extremely well on trout where they stock them in East Tennessee so much

Any luck with catfish on Boone?
Hey Cody, other than a random flathead I caught this early spring. I’ve not had any attempt at catfish on Boone yet.
AWESOME vid Mike.
Thanks Sam
Hey buddy when do white bass and hybrid start running on Boone Lake?
Normally April
Which side is better, Watuaga or Holston?

I need to get to TN to help catch some of these
I can help you
What depth would I need to troll this time of year? Mid summer…🥵

Dang I was out there today and I missed you. I was there in the afternoon.. Next time. Great video!!!
Oh man, hopefully I’ll run into you soon. I hope you had a good day
What big fish!! Glad you had a good day.
Thanks, they are my favorite
Do you have recommendations on bait from a kayak? I can throw a small net but I think the big deep net would be a little much for me to handle.

Where did you get that awesome striper sweatshirt at?
www.cakiko.com/products/b0792hg963 The thing I like about their hoodies is they are incredibly soft on the inside.
Thanks. Ordering one today

That’s awesome, I actually do believe it. I’ve seen guys over there catching them on chicken liver. I’ll be heading that way when April hits.
good stuff Michael. Would love to hook up with one of those stripers and take a sleigh ride in the yak!!
That would be so epic, I plan on doing the same at some point this year
Catch and cook? :)
We definitely cooked it, but it was more like a few cell phone shots. Looking forward to doing an in-depth one in the future
Is there a decent trout population in boone lake?
Yes, there are tons of brown trout in Boone Lake.
does it increase your revenue if I watch the entire ad?
That’s a great question, I don’t think so
@@MichaelKaal-TriFisher I let it run and get more coffee...
