Please note that I shot this video before the abduction of Elliot Eastman from Sibuco town in Zamboanga Del Norte on 17th October 2024. This is the first reported abduction for many years. Elliot had been living with his Muslim wife for five months in Sibuco town, located near Sirawai town where another westerner had been killed in 2002. I hope and pray that Elliot is freed safely. I am no longer travelling in the Red Zone. Thanks for Watching. Please Leave a Comment and I'll do my best to Respond. New subscriber and welcome to THE LAND OF PROMISE MINDANAO. I’ve heard this phrase when I was a kid. I’m 79 years old now from N. Mindanao. Enjoy your stay. Watching from The USA!
Good question. I revisit the places that I liked from the previous time and sometimes I'll have the old dish but there was a dish that I was planning on trying that didn't try I would try it out this time around if I felt like it and I'm also into exploring new places because that's where you find the hidden gems
I think when you have a good experience somewhere, you go back to it. So my answer is I revisit places I like, and also locations I have been to before. If I remember what I ate and it was good I would order the same rather than try something new and have a bad experience! I go to new places too.
Enjoyed the bus footage Phil , it feels like one is riding the bus with you . I have visited Machu Picchu ( Peru ) about 15 years ago and always desired to go back again .
It’s always more exciting going someplace new unless I had an exceptional experience then I’ll go back to it to see if I can repeat the experience. I will get bored fast with the same places, but if I can find a good price somewhere, I will tend to go back to that often.
ALways enjoy your vlogs. I moved to CDO a couple months ago and have met many great foriegners settled here. Not sure how you say you try to live on $1000 a month. Traveling I'm guessing you average near $20/night X 30 is $600 already gone. But regardless, continue the traveling volgs and insights. We enjoy, and of course if you are still in CDO as you post this and want to share a coffee...
Thanks for yr appreciation. Unfortunately around 25kg. Wheelie and Backpack. Carrying far too much. A lot of which like journals, tech stuff and thick clothing are redundant. You visiting soon my friend?
He wrote great pop songs. Was regularly on TOTP every week during the 70s. The Human League do a great version of "Rock'n'Roll." Just a shame about his extracurricular activities.
“Nicknaming cheap restaurants after an unwashed spoon dates back at least to 1848:[5] The Gabbione [in Rome] ... has withal an appearance so murky and so very far removed from cleanliness, that the Germans have bestowed upon it the appellation of the 'Dirty Spoon'. The earliest appearance in print of the specific term "greasy spoon" was in 1906, in a story in Macmillan's Magazine, referring to an eatery in Paris frequented for a time by Robert Louis Stevenson:[6] A tradition exists in the studios of Montparnasse, where Stevenson has already become almost a legendary figure, that "cousin Bob" (R.A.M. Stevenson, the well-known art-critic) one day found his relative moping in the darkest corner of the Cremerie in the Rue Delambre, - an eating-house much frequented by artists, and familiarly known as The Greasy Spoon...”
Visit the same locations, eating the same stuff, even walk or drive the same ways is giving me a kind of peace so i know at least some spots already. By the way...i pay around 45 Euro for a haircut in germany...so its 45 times the cost compared to PH.
Question of the day answer: Yes, I will retrace many of my trips or visits because you can't see everything in one visit. No matter how much you try you always miss something unique... so another pass is always worth while. At cafe's i will usually try something different unless the meal or dish I had the first time was so perfect I'd be missing out.
My reply to Philip´s question: I will certainly choose the same hotel, if I thought it was nice - But try new restaurants or coffee places. I rarely have affections for a certain locale. I have noticed that establishments tend to come and go, especially in a city centre.
I agree that decent hotels are worth returning to. But I also don't find that many decent places to eat in most towns/cities so will generally pay repeat visits unless they've gone bust!
Wow ! still just 70 pesos for a cut , that accommodation, booze ( still tea total I guess ), San Miguel at least, makes it a lot easier on the pocket, also denistry you passed a place called Tooth Planet , on your way to Rizal Ave, last time there 700 pesos for a good clean , be 5K pesos here , will try some place new but also check out, where you really enjoyed a meal/service, I agree walking past that area , that fish smell is pretty high !
i usually visit the same places and eat the same things at least once each visit, but i also do make an effort to try somewhere new. i'm a bit annoyed with myself for not trying one place that i keep telling myself i will visit but keep sayings it's too far to walk.
Plus earplugs. Local bar is noisy till midnight. Avoid rooms on Grd Floor by the pond with bad air circulation. Ask them to show you how hot water comes out the shower. Apart from all that it's great! Few hotel choices in Pagadian.
Those were exactly my thoughts at the beginning of the vlog…but I persevered and enjoyed. I even made it through a couple of awkward conversations (i.e., sweeping with hand on back). I enjoy watching a variety of vloggers who are not exactly like me.
Interesting "Red Zone" tour. Aside from no toilet seat... are you checked out on using the tabo? Except I only saw the bucket, no dipper. Get that left hand limbered up! Looks like your second room corrected both matters. LOL "John Travolta." He even had the bucket of paint! "Stayin' Alive" should be the Philippines national anthem. I don't think I could stand having my head shaved without lather.
I had my head shaved for the first time in Duma a fortnight earlier. The butch lady used lather but I didn't film it. So yeah, when this guy shaved it without lather I was quite surprised. Shaved it myself for the first time this week. Surprisingly easy!
I can’t dig with this. It’s prolly embarrassing them when they’re wearing what they can afford man…. And you come by “schooling them”. They all have phones. They can google it if they want 😂 Some people don’t know what survival is like apparently
I am thanking the Lord this Sunday that he saw fit to give you safe passage out of the Red Zone. I cannot help but think you cheated death this time around. Who knows, maybe those terrorists had a bead on you, and you got out of there just in the nick of time. P.S. Don't you do that again mister!

Hello. Is Pagadian considered the Red Zone? I was planning possible travel there in January...Thanks in advance.
Nice to see you're doing well Uncle! I will be visiting the Mekong River and hopefully the Philippines soon! Cheers!
Thank you presenting the city where I had my college. It felt like a million yrs not visiting the place. It is delightful to watch it in RUclips.
Ah, that's great! I'm happy you enjoyed the video I shot there. What were you studying in Pagadian and where are you now my friend?

9:55 Paris is a beautiful country, and England is my city
I saw that in the news that a 26 year old American man was shot in the leg and kidnapped from zamboanga del norte in Mindanao just yesterday.
I love the music, is it available for stream or download somewhere?
Thanks. Music supplied by Epidemic Sounds.

Nice of you giving Ph500 to that girl for her painting. I subbed then. - Toronto Canada 🇨🇦

Bangin soundtrack today, Uncle👍
22:25 In Spanish goat's meat is often called "birria". One of my favorites, especially in sauces; the meat is tender and shreds nicely.
I admire your ability to eat the food in Philippines 🇵🇭 … I’m in Thailand 🇹🇭 now. I’ll try Philippines again when my visa expires.
If you want a good restaurant down by the water, try Out of Nowhere, in the 1st building by the main street. I live in Santo Nino...
this vid is reminiscent of the Jack Nicholson movie 'The Passenger' from 1970. On the trail of 'the man from BWC'
So which foreigners do they prefer best? 🤨

Nice Boulevard with cruise ship and beautiful view of mountain island at end.
That fact that we both know who Gary Glitter is scares me.

Nice skypiece Frenchie! You wear it well, suits your mug & headquarters!
Hi Sir, could you Menton the name of the place you are lodging, Thank.s
Try Pagota restaurant just down the street from rodolfos
Nice spot. I was there in June. It's amazing how "fine dining" in the Phils isn't expensive.

I remember a breakfast joint called "The Greasy Spoon" on Artesia in Redondo Beach in the early '90s. It fit the image!
In America that Reesie sweatshirt cost you like 90 bucks. There are cost them 18 pesos.
I often retrace my steps.I dont think I would want to tackle Carbonara with toast! LOL What a combo! How are you staying so thin Philip?
Shaved head is definitely your look. As a bonus you look a lot younger, if you care about that.
Thanks. Yeah, always a bonus looking closer to my Tinder age.
I had the full shave face and head in Iligan city The cost was $150 Peso Took him about 30 minutes. That was quite the experience.
What is your travel budget? Thanks for sharing Phillip.
My budget is NotaLot. No more than $1k per month my friend.
Visit the same locations, eating the same stuff, even walk or drive the same ways is giving me a kind of peace so i know at least some spots already.
By the way...i pay around 45 Euro for a haircut in germany...so its 45 times the cost compared to PH.
😲
Do you feel very safe in there ? I would love to retire there soon . It looks lovely .
It's safe here, never had any problems
Here in dipulog city Zamboanga del Norte is very safe for open tourist

I feel the same. If the cap fits.... right? But yeah, add something new as well for the next time. Unless it disappoints!
Gensan is also good, been few times.
On my way to Gen San Rick! Should be there next month.
Gen san is hot, dirty and noisy..no nice beaches, have to travel to glan, sarangani for half decent beach.. Davao much nicer
Did you ever read the advice to shave?
Hello ! I will be in Pagadian the first week of November and I have booked the same hotel as you, I guess I’ll pack a toilet seat 👍🏽 😂

Reese's is available in PH. Not cheap as it's double the price to what we pay in Canada. Regardless I enjoy most of your vids. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I saw some in the 7/11. Didn't realise they were sold here.
Usually enjoy watching ur vids, but omg the music was “Horrible” so much I skipped this, and I have a fairly broad taste in tunes!
Oh well. Others disagree. Check out the "banging soundtrack" comment. Means "good" in youf speak. Can't please everyone.

Fun in Mindanao!
Puttin the moves on her. Nice
Lots of times people in se Asia get their shirts by someone having left a shirt in a hotel. Lots of people wear Nyy gear not knowing what it means.
Are you headed to CDO for a wedding?
Am I? You know something that I don't know?
Us British are the best of the bunch we are the leat rude and uptight of all the expats that go there
is Gary glitter still in jail?
Yes, until 2031
@MikeO8585 thanks, he messed up bad!
Without further ado? Please. Do further.
