@@dennisanderson8663 Evidently it was a move by the American Amusement Machine Association, and was added to all machines that they imported into the US from 1989 to 2000. It was not only a PSA as part of the war on drugs, but also a clever way to help identify counterfeit machines due to it displaying the seal of the FBI (since the AAMA's president at the time had previously played a crucial role in the FBI busting a big counterfeiting ring).
Who'd have ever thought that Mega Man would've worked so well recreated in the mould of Street Fighter II? Or that Capcom would've invested so much care in updating each of the robot masters for the 32-bit era? It's a bit derivative, but this one is a total classic.
Oh my gosh I remember playing this with a friend during a party on a trip in grade 8, yellow devil was impossible to beat and we had the greatest time doing it. Ah such fond memories
Correction: this version (CPS1) is confirmed to be coming out for the Capcom Home Arcade announced earlier this year, but it's the Capcom Home Arcade. There was also Rockman Power Battle Fighters on the PS2 which added a versus mode.
Man, this is like a blast to the past and an insane nostalgia trip. I remember playing this game on an arcade machine at the local bowling alley while the parents were doing league in late 90s, early 2000s. So many quarters
Never saw this one in an actual arcade before, but I did get to play this one (and the sequel) on the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. They're a lot of fun, and they look great! Instead of the 8-bit style, I would have loved for Mega Man 9 and/or 10 to look like this!
Unfortunately arcades blow in America. They've mostly died here. Even the ones I used to go to would never have current versions of games, i.e. Tekken 4 or 5 instead of 6. Games that don't fill up with quarters are replaced with cabinets that do. Certain niche games like NFL Blitz would almost always be found.
Thanks to MAME the home market can finally enjoy games that were never ported to consoles or just too difficult/expensive to own a standalone cabinet of. Due to arcades being almost non-existent where I grew up and the limited selection of games, 95% of the games in arcade I never would have discovered if not for MAME.
Some of the tracks from the second arcade game would wind up in Rockman Complete Works, and later on MMAC as the arranged tracks. Also, Crash Man has the wrong track for his stage in this game.
To be fair, a lot of characters have the wrong music playing (although Freeze Man's theme is probably more lighthearted and appropriate for Ice Man than his old theme anyway)
So many good memories. My uncle had an Ultracade, and this was one of my favorite games on it along with 1941 and Snow Bros 2. It broke down a while ago, but it was fun while it lasted.
So glad that this game at least had SOME FM sfx. I didn't like how some CPS1 games after Final Fight ABUSE the PCM channel for sfx. Case in point, Mega Twins.
The _Mega Man Anniversary Collection_ compilation was actually released in 2004 (2005 for the Xbox version), not 2002. Anyways, yeah, this game should really be released again at some point. In his “Game Compilations Compilation” video, Scott the Woz lamented that both of the _Mega Man Legacy Collection_ compilations only focused on the ten mainline games and left out other games that would have fit in well with the others, examples being _Mega Man & Bass_, the Sega Saturn version of _Mega Man 8_ (though excluding that couldn’t really be helped, as the Saturn is notoriously tough to emulate), the Game Boy installments, the Game Gear installment, and _The Wily Wars_ (thank Hylia it’s included in the Sega Genesis Mini’s library of games). Let’s hope that Capcom makes a third _Legacy Collection_ that includes some (or, ideally, all) of those games as well both this one and its sequel (_The Power Fighters_).
Ah good call, thanks for that. I'll fix it. I'd really like to see an officially translated version of the Neo Geo Pocket game too. I actually liked it better than the arcade game :)
NintendoComplete Did you know? Capcom actually did intend to make a compilation that included all five of the _Mega Man_ games for the Game Boy titled _Mega Man Mania_, even going so far as to officially announce it. It would have been released for the Game Boy Advance as a counterpart to _Mega Man Anniversary Collection_. Sadly, that ended up not happening, and people who preordered _Mega Man Mania_ were given refunds. Again, I hope that Capcom makes a third _Mega Man Legacy Collection_ that would include the Game Boy games and the Game Gear one. And a hypothetical fourth installment that would include _Mega Man & Bass_, _The Wily Wars_, and the fighting games (the arcade duology and _Rockman Battle & Fighters_). What do you think?
@@MarkCabaniss I remember reading about the remakes of the Game Boy games, but as I understand it they were never finished and the code has been lost. I'd absolutely love to play them, but I kinda doubt Capcom would go and recreate them all for a collection :(
Thanks for posting. Guess I hadn't seen this before or I'd have done a thumbup/comment before. Good seeing all three. Seems Bass had a different miniboss. Nice job.
I think the only arcade games i ever played were Terminator 2(please do this one !)and Time Crisis. It was a pleasant experience. This one looks great. It didn’t aged at all.
Oh wow, I remember beating this through emulator with it's sequel, The Power Fighters. I loved these two Megaman spinoff, or maybe I just suck at Megaman generally, but I love battling various bosses in this way. Maybe one day Capcom would consider make a Megaman The Power Final or... something like that.
Bro I played this game so much at this place I used to go to as a kid called kids r kids and they had that arcade machine that had hella old games I loved it
I would've loved this game more if it weren't for the stage selection mechanic. Without the Robot Masters being shown it's harder to plan which order you tackle the stages. Not only that, but the appearance of the islands don't even make sense. For example on my first playthrough I selected the bottom one *that looks like a circuit board* expecting Elecman but got Gutsman instead. Due to some other factors that I'd rather not spend my time typing, I would prefer the Power Fighters over this game.
I hope that Arcade1up gets the rights from Capcom to this game along with Mega Man 2: The power fighters. If they can do Street fighter, then they can do these two games as well.
Imagine a 3rd Power fighter game that has the Robot Masters from mega man 9 mega man 10 mega man 8 mega man and Bass mega man 11 and the mega man Gameboy Games
You know i had this idea of this game except of it just being a boss rush, its like a traditional megaman game where there are stages you go through before the bosses
I miss government warnings not to do drugs in my video games
I can't even count how many arcade games show that Sessions quote. Why were arcade games more educational than their console cousins?
pretty sure it made us all want to do drugs
@@beamoflaser Maybe it just assumed that we were doing them already.
Sonic Sez: Do drugs in a safe environment
Sonic Sez not even a second later: I won't be selling any more arcades

I was really excited when I unlocked power battle/power fighters in the anniversary collection on the GameCube
This game needs a comeback. More fighters. Longer fights.

Ahh, the memories of playing this one on that Mega Man Anniversary Collection and in an arcade in Singapore!!
How is that possible those machines never got a real release you sure you played on a actual unit?
@@robwar1992 They installed the ROM inside one of those compact Japanese-style cabinets. (They look almost rounded squares, akin to NAOMI cabinets)

Mad respect for making sure the display is in the proper aspect ratio.
While I still consider this game a gem... is anyone else bothered that Cut man, a robot made for lumber cutting, is weak to Wood man's weapon?
But I suppose that's the definition of IRONY!
Not to mention Cut Man's original weakness which is Super Arm is also in this game, and yet its now Ice Man's weakness for some reason.

A pretty cool and obscure Mega Man title!
Only home port is on the Anniversary Collection at the moment, but those are still pretty cheap these days.
Also the Japan-exclusive Rockman Power Battle Fighters for the PS2.
Is their the anniversary mode in MM: the power battle?

The Power Fighters is way better than this version.
I agree. Perhaps I am biased since I believe MegaMan 2 was the best one ever made and Power Fighters has MegaMan 2 bosses.
Wait you just inserted 3 credits instead of 1 to play the entire game?
One for Mega Man, one for Proto Man, one for Bass

Megaman
Protoman
Bass
Can I just say after recently going back to megaman 7, I am fucking glad they didn't include wily machine 7 as the final boss
