I don't know if you'll see this comment or not but I just wanted to let you know that your videos got me through one of the lowest points in my life. I was suffering from agoraphobia so I was in the house all the time and felt hopeless but these videos gave me something to look forward to.

They used to sell little habitats for turtles that was basically a saucer with a little island in it and that was bigger and better than what this turtle was living in even though it also stunk.

He doesn’t even have heat/uv. Never mind needing at least a 40 gallon breeder tank at that size. The poor thing is gonna have a deformed shell, metabolic bone disease, and lifelong pain. Idk how it’s still alive if she’s really had it for years.

Hand bag people are pretty brain dead jn general. While there is a difference in quality between a $10 purse and a $100 purse, there isn’t really much difference between a $200 purse and a $2000 one besides bragging rights. Since it’s either a gift or bought with credit cards since they probably don’t have careers yet it’s not even bragging rights at this point.
Y'know i don't think we give enough credit to Jon. In every episode he uses his skills and expertise to walk through unlocked doors. A master of the craft.

Keeping a door locked in a shared household is almost impossible. I literally have a sign on the door saying “lock the door” and people still leave it unlocked

@@bec7080to be fair, people in San Francisco leave their car windows down to avoid them being broken because it’s almost inevitable that something will be stolen out of it.
Actually, you would be f-cking shocked at how many home burglaries happen by someone going in via an unlocked door or window. In fact I would bet good money on residential burglaries having more than half of all of them occur with simply unlawful entry & without any forced entry. The official FBI data on all burglaries say something like 55-60% [depending on the year] involve forcible entry, but a few things to note.
1) 37% of burglaries & attempted burglaries took place somewhere other than a residence & *almost all* [>90%] of the unlawful entry burglaries are going to be in residential burglaries. Since the entry data combines residences & nonresidences it skews the proportion.
2) Then entry data was included in only 81% of the burglaries reported overall. Again most of the locations that don't have this data included will be residences because nonresidences have fewer possible entry points & will be much easier to identify how someone got in/out. While I think the split between them will be slightly less one-sided than the unlawful entry data would be, it will still be massively one-sided [>75%.]
3) And finally, while I expect this to be a very small number, if someone has a key hidden somewhere outside in case of emergencies & they are able to find it so they can unlock the door this would qualify as a forcible entry because of the way they define the terms. But, personally I would not include it in that category [nor would most people I think.] Though again I doubt that this applies in all that many instances.
Hey Chris. Lifelong Turtle enthusiast here.
There are a few different types of Turtles that can either be bought from pet stores, or found in the wild, & they don't all live primarily in the water. Luckily, her Turtle is an aquatic Turtle, so the very first thing to note is that she needs an entire "fish tank" setup, not just a tiny bowl. That Turtle should be in a 20 gallon tank until it gets a little bigger with all of the amenities a tank of water should have.
So, the generally accepted standards for having a pet aquatic Turtle are:
- 10 gallons of water per every 1 inch of shell length with a submersible water heater & the temp set to about 80F. Her Turtle needs a 20 gallon or above.
- a water filter that is, preferably, more powerful than what you need. So if you had a 20 gallon tank, then get the filter for the 30 gallon tank, & so on.
- a basking area where the Turtle can easily climb out of the water to dry off at their chosen intervals. Aquatic Turtles do live in water primarily, but they don't have gills or anything like that, so sticking even an aquatic Turtle in something full of water with no way to climb out is not safe at all for the Turtle. They are pretty good at floating, but they can't do it forever.
- a light affixed at least 6-8 inches above the tank that gives off UVA & UVB rays, UVB light helps turtles maintain calcium balance by allowing their bodies to synthesize vitamin D3, & UVA light can help regulate behaviors like feeding, mating, and diurnal movement. If you're keeping one inside, they need a lamp with both UVA & UVB rays.
- a heat lamp, also around 8 inches above the water. Turtles need help regulating their body temps, & without a source of heat, they will be too cold & could go into shock.
- Turtles also eat under water, so if you try to give them food outside of water, they will just stare at it. Even if they take a bite, they won't be able to swallow until they go back into the water.
- a place, or several places to hide while they sleep, or if they feel uncomfortable. Turtles need to be able to feel safe if they want to, & if they don't have anywhere to go, they will be stressed constantly.
There's more that goes into owning a pet Turtle, but those listed above are the absolute bare minimum & basic Turtle care needs. Without any of those or all of them, a Turtle WILL NOT survive for the 50+ years it's supposed to. I mean, her saying she's had that Turtle since Freshman year & it's still as small as it is is already telling. Turtles grow pretty quickly, like a few inches in a few months, so tank size upgrades are absolutely necessary, & the more financially well-off Turtle owners eventually upgrade to small ponds outside for their pet Turtles. THAT'S how serious & expensive properly caring for even a single Turtle can be. I know I'm kinda that guy for typing all this, but when I heard you mention Turtle care & her severe lack of it, I felt like my moment had finally come lol. I am definitely the guy for that question lol. So yeah, she is not just doing a poor job of caring for that Turtle, her level of care is equivalent to putting a small baby in a suitcase while the suitcase is floating in the center of a swimming pool, & just assuming it will be fine. The only difference is that Turtles know the danger of staying underwater & know how to swim. I know this show is 20 years old, but I just needed to properly explain just how severely neglectful that Turtle setup is. I mean at worst she could've at least put it in one of those super cheap 5 or 10 gallon tanks with just a little water & a rock to climb out on. Even if Google wasn't readily available, they have at least 3 computers in that house, she could've at least TRIED to search up basic Turtle care.
Turtles don't need more than a pot of water
@@holdupits420 I'm not sure where you learned that, but that's incorrect. Turtles are very hardy creatures, & can survive quite a bit, but that doesn't mean those harsh conditions are optimal. If you're talking about a Box Turtle, or a Tortoise, then sure, a bit of water in a dish is fine, but aquatic Turtles like the one in this video absolutely require enough water to open up & swim around in. They sleep underwater, they eat underwater & can't swallow without lurching forward in water, they use the restroom underwater, they absolutely need more than "a pot" of water.
This is very thorough! I knew turtles needed a lot but not that much. She has no excuse, I was in highschool that year and Google was definitely a thing and so was Wikipedia.

I do understand that we don't live in a perfect world, & not everybody is going to spend hundreds of dollars on a setup for their Turtle, but when I see something as abhorrently cruel as a Turtle in a cereal bowl with nothing else, I can't help but feel like even the cheapest Turtle owner would do better than THAT. It almost feels like she secretly hates the poor thing, like I know she said she loved him in the episode but there is a certain point of neglect where ignorance just isn't an excuse. It's like someone saying "Oh, my baby loves cars, so I let her play in the street to make her happy". You don't have to be a Turtle expert to know when your neglect is just downright cruelty.
This is great, thank you. And Google was pretty well used by then, especially in colleges. She had no excuses.

I had turtles at one point. Turtles need a place to waddle around (like solid ground), water to swim in, and it needs to be warm (with a heat lamp). The turtle shouldn't be on the ground because if that little dude gets out it can get squished 😭 its a miracle that turtle is still alive

I've got turtles. That turtle is like 6 months old tops. She said shes had it "since freshman year". Unless it is still the same year, then she is killing and replacing that turtle over and over!
Oh, I thought maybe they'd stop growing if they're forced to live in a small confined area similar to how fish don't grow large unless they're living in a giant pond.

Everyone watched cash cab and no one knew what channel it was on, or what time. Back then, you did this thing called "flipping through the channels" and just found stuff. Shows like cash cab and frasier knew how to be where we could find them.

Also, you're not supposed to handle a turtle without washing your hands before and after(and NEVER kiss them or leave kids/immunosuppressed people alone with them), as they(and most reptiles) carry salmonella.
Just to make it clear to anyone reading this, this turtle was NOT safe, and most likely uncomfortable and unhappy. That girl also put the whole sorority at risk of a serious outbreak in the conditions she kept them.

You can be an unarmed security guard pretty easily.I worked as one for a month or two.They gave me a company shirt and a flashlight the day I was hired and I was working the next day.

My parents house got robbed in 2003/4 because of this shows airing in New Zealand around that time, to my knowledge the police said that the shows airing was probably responsible as the robbery displayed a lot of the tactics a specific episode aired.

This video unlocked a core memory from when I was 6 and our house got robbed. Except that the burglars were inexperienced and really stupid, so all they did was ate Christmas candy, trashed the house and got caught on their way out as we were pulling into the driveway. All they stole was the TV remote, VHS remote and a plastic tub of silverware. They got caught the next day and returned everything.
I want an episode where they "find" a house, talk to the owners, ask them if they want to be on the show, and the owners just say "no". Show over.
Locking a door might not have helped, but you know what would have? not wasting 3 grand on some useless cow skin purses.

I have worked in a casino my whole life and... LOL... I've seen security guards in their 70s walking around the floor with a cane. Its kind of funny.

"That being said" (or "that said" or "with all that being said" or other variations) is used when you're about to say something that is somewhat contradictory to what was previously stated or implied. For example: "No lock is COMPLETELY unbreakable. With enough time and skill, any lock can be picked. If you're drinking and driving or whatever else and you get caught the kid with the cop card should not get out of it. Idc if you daddy is the dang president of the United States of America.😅you get introuble you go to freaking jail no matter. Only exceptions I guess which is still incredibly messed up is when there's a operation on a drug dealer so they pull over people who are come from the area of the drug dealers place. These agents will often catch people who either have stuff of even just pretty clearly use stuff and they will give the addict there name and number and tell the person if they are ever arrested while getting the drug to have the officer call them. This is because they convince people to make multiple purchases all over in order to eventually stack charges on somone but the plus side for the user is that they get to keep the drugs and know that no one will mess with them legally as long as they are helping them getting the ones they are looking for. Heck they don't even have to catch you woth anything and you might not even use drugs. They have been known to pay people to try purchasing dope from a dealer. I always thought that was exaggerated until we went to look at a place for rent and turns out the son of the guy who lived upstairs was a heroin dealer 🙄. We were going to get the place and even put down some cash and signed papers so he would hold the place till the next month for us but then we got pulled over and ripped around them looking thinking we went to buy drugs. Once we explained they did not believe us but after seeing I've never been arrested in my life and not finding anything they finally let me show them the copy of the Rental agreement they apologized told us exactly what was happening and said we shouldn't move there cause the owners were absolutely going down soon and then tried to offer me alot of money to go try and make a purchase from the person 😅. I'm like uhh no... I don't do that stuff and I didn't meet the person you were looking for anyway we met the other person of the same name because it was the father who was going to rent it out. He mentioned having a few children but we definitely didn't meet anyone who was there much less get opportunity to be comfortable enough trying to purchase drugs from any of them😅. It's incredibly shady still but I atleast understand why they might have these "get out of jail" free type of cards cause a different officer might capture the informant which complicates the investigation and dealers get nervous if they find out somone they sold to was arrested and might get rid of stuff of lay low a while so best to let them go. But not for much of any other crimes. Your committing crimes that are harmful to others in any type of way it shouldn't matter who you know.

I vaguely remember watching an episode with my dad once. Either this show or maybe a sister show, I don't remember. The only reason it was scary was because the thief broke in upstairs while the entire family had dinner downstairs and felt too real. It freaked me out so much that I constantly check to make sure all locks were locked before bed or leaving the house 😅

Jokes aside, this show came out at the time my family moved into a house from an apartment. It made me more aware and careful to keep stuff locked when out, since at the apartment we were on the 16th floor and the only point of entry was the door.
