As this is supposed to be a somewhat professional, you would think they proof read before publishing. I am not having a go at them for ONE mistake at all.
I've always covered the camera on my computer/phone. Not because I'm worried I'll be caught having a wank, but for anything. I realise it is highly unlikely there will be anybody on the other end watching, but I really do not like having a camera staring at me no matter what I'm doing, whether its watching porn, watching TV, playing a game, reading the news, eating my breakfast, whatever. Maybe I'm just a little over scopophobic, but I never asked for a camera, and they seem to be a compulsory part of your computer now.

But, the manufactures of these devices put in them all sorts of things that you don't know about and that you wouldn't want but that you pay for. For example, they can remotely turn on your camera or your speaker anytime they want. This is even true, even if your phone is turned off - unless the battery is out of it. Did you know you were paying for an buying that feature? Another example is that pretty much every digital camera does't actually delete photos when you think you are deleting them. Instead, they move them to another file that you don't have access to. The photos are time and date stamped and logged away, so that if anybody in authority ever needs access to them, they can get them. So when you thought you were deleting a photo, you were just using a feature that you paid for and moving it to memory that you paid for, but that you didn't have access to. So now there are hackers that took advantage of these features, and people are all confused? Imagine all the other tracking software out there, GPS on all your devices and in your car so they can track exactly where you go every second of the day. Your household appliances will have tracking software on them. All the data will be automatically uploaded via cell signals. Big brother is cumming HARD, and we've only just begun.
Before you install any app on Android there's a list of permissions that are displayed. If it shows that a porn app is going to use your camera, shouldn't you be RELATIVELY suspicious? Some people.
As an IOS and Android Dev anyone downloading 3rd party apps outside the app store should know they are probably downloading malware or ransomware. My guess is if you are accepting most of those permissions they are not just taking a picture of you they are also stealing your personal data and photos on your device.

If you do, the Indian accented person on the other end of the line will ask for your number, and then say that to uninstall the malware, you have to let them take internal control of your computer. Don't send them money, don't let them into your computer, and don't call them. Instead, just instal a firewall, if you have not done so already.
Never install apps that ask for more permission than they actually need. It will save you from most hackers, and competent developers will never have their app ask for too many permissions. So check permissions, because it will save you from many hackers and bad programmers alike.

This is why there are front facing cameras on phones. To see the person that may own the phone. It is mainly for law enforcement. It could also be used inappropriately which in many cases if it is not you using the front facing camera by choice it is a violation of your rights. Just cover the camera if you care.
