Cool video, I have been following along from the start. I am a power boater and fisherman out of Port Burwell (when the waters soft). Waste of time venting about common sense wakes............its a never ending issue wherever you boat. I tune in to the popular blogs but I find yours more realistic for me as you started in my backyard. Have fun and play safe.

I hate the LAW for the same reasons you stated. I actually went from St. Augustine to St. Marys for the refit. I had the same except I was going north, and the idiot on a 65 Hatteras at nearly full speed, I had to lead the big wake he left behind. The 5th group is PWCs. I had one coming airborne about 25 feet to my port, I really thought she was going to hit me. A group of PWCs guys and ladies wearing helmets. St. Augustine is nice but their slips are expensive so I took a mooring ball for two weeks prior heading north. Pretty cool town, only that they still think the fountain of youth is gold. And yes, it is the oldest town in the US. Fair winds.

Great vid, unfortunately there are people with no respect combined with people who are oblivious everywhere , and also unfortunately more often than not they have money which makes them arrogant as well. Glad you made it to warmer climates , we had our 1st snow storm followed by gusting 80knot winds and freezing rain here in Halifax. Enjoy the next leg!

I wouldn´t wanna miss the ride on the ICW with all the beautiful and pintoresk impressions on the way, watching how nature is changing, the vegetation, stopping for a little while in those cosy little villages alongside the ICW. Yes this is beautiful and every time of the year it´s different. On the water everything looks different. If You go down South there will be plenty of opportunity to taste sailing on the open ocean.
Yeah, get them Jerks that don´t respect others on camera. Make sure the name of there boat is visible. That´s great about RUclips. thousands of people watching. After a little while everybody will know..... Yeah, here comes THE JERK"... in every bar, marina, gas station, the laundry, super market, the mechanics. That´s when he needs others.
Everybody will know ... here comes THE JERK. People will even know before he gets to a place. RUclips is faster.
Let´s see what happens))) Hahaha, don´t mess with the cruisers.
Nice video.... have lot´s of fun
    Cheers

I've had a few of those idiots in my time.....sadly was never able to confront any of them. My advice? Sit back, drink a beer and know you're a better boater.
Well done episode guys, thanks from the old man feeding the wood stove.

I had a couple of events like that coming into home port in penetanguishene Ontario. Both with kids on board.
First time I almost went overboard as I was typing up my main , wife was helming, I had to hand on to the swinging boom.
Second time I was day sailing with my kids, and in the tightest of spots an a-hole wakes us just like the guy on your video.
Coincidentally he ended up the same marina, wanting to fuel up. On same dock we had the local opp police. I talked to them ,they went over to talk to him, and turns out he was drunk. He got taken away and boat impounded. Karma is a bitch. Best of all whencruiser picked him up,
My daughter , then 12 showed him the finger as he was driven away. He scared the crap out of the kids. And that's not cool.
    Fair winds

Hi - yes all of the sounds and much of the icw can be sailed if the wind is in your favor. We sail quite a lot.

The owner of M/V Change Order probably is a contractor and paid for the boat with money he charged his clients for bogus change orders to the contracts. It's a little late since you have left Florida waters, but you can report a-holes like that to the Florida Marine Patrol. They are the police of the waterways in Florida.

St. Mary's sound is where I learned to sail, and on the right days, you may get to see a Ohio Class Sub heading into Kings Bay, also glad you guys didn't get stuck in "Yankee Bank" too. I personally would head out that channel and stay off shore till St. Augustine, the ICW can be a pain from Nassau Sound till St. Augustine. I also like how you guys kinda showcased Mr. Kahn's yacht at BAE there.

S/V Bright Eyes Think about going to Homestead FL and then go to Binime you want to get South of Miami to get thru the Gulf Stream which pushes you north about 70 NM to Binime, and never go when any wind with a North in it NW or NE

Ahoy mates, so glad you are spending some port time in my favorite landfall. So much fun stuff to do in and around St. Augustine... don't be in too much of a rush to leave - it don't get much better for a sailor who loves history. Enjoy the fortress San Marco, and don't forget the Pirates Museum. Visit a grog shop or two for me, and have some quality spiced rum - suggest Kraken (excellent). Just keep an eye on those oyster beds. Re: wakes. LOL. Best to "thread" them, as you have learned. Sport fishers on step are almost always the problem... they have NO CLUE and DO NOT CARE. The further you go north of NYC, the worse the "Stink Potter" attitude gets (usually}. Trawler swabs are often, senior sailors, who have retired their sheets for a big ass diesel engine... or have finally somehow come to the rationalization that we die hard sailors indeed motor... about 60 percent of the time. However, trawler hulls suck, as far as economy goes... At any rate, Trawler folk are usually fine mates. Capt'n - please take that bonnie lass of a FirstMate around that fine olde city, before you shove off... in a horse drawn carriage at night {she'll be yours forever). Fair winds, mates.

I like the call-out to throw down with Change Order. There will be no remedy to idiots like that, but I totally get the frustration.
    There are idiots everywhere.

hey guys...glad to see you got to see something of S/Augustine the next day. Really appreciated spending some time with you. If we're ever so privileged again I will sure plan differently, and bring some of the things I need to be more mobile. Still recouping from muscle loss , but work outs should help a lot. Felt bad about cutting the evening short, but the old "hoof" was getting to me. Again enjoyed your company so much. Take care...calm seas and fair winds. John & John.

At about mile 843 you will have your last chance to run aground. Read up on staying close to 18 and 18A. I've been passing them about 20 or so feet away.

Power boat wakes are a real problem, especially on inland lakes and rivers. In Canada the regs state that you are responsible for your wake, and liable for any damage you cause, but this is never enforced. The police are far more interested in fining you for not having a little plastic whistle or the right kind of throw line (in fact, speeding police boats are among the wake-churning culprits). There should be a speed limit of 8 knots in narrow, inshore waters, though slim chance that'll ever happen. It is interesting that the authorities claim to be concerned about the environment, impose all kinds of restrictions about shoreline development (for example, not allowed to install a dock because you might disturb some frogs eggs), yet no one thinks that loud booming speed boats sending shock waves through the water and throwing up huge waves causing shoreline erosion is a problem. When I was a kid and credit wasn't so cheap people had reasonably sized runabouts and fishing boats - you didn't have all these monster boats with their huge, noisy engines, and our lakes and rivers were so much nicer and more enjoyable. Nowadays venturing out on most waterways where there are people is neither enjoyable nor peaceful.

Respect and common sense are really not that common these days and it's sad to see it! Nice job reacting to the wake and eliminating the hazard! Caught a little bit of your live feed yesterday but the internet was weak where I was so it kept freezing but like the fact that you guys where live and updating:) Read the first book and I was really surprised that at least to me was the fact that actually stepping off the dock to leave seemed to be the hardest part, but I am glad you did!! Thanks for sharing!
