Excellent video mate, your grit and determination are on another level.. Top man, and it's great to finally meet ya 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Same to you pal, its going to be sweet when we both hit our Sub3.
Great video wish i could run that fast. I ran yellow wave going for a sub 4 nice run all the way got to 22miles had 5 mins in bag so took pace off got to bottom of final corner over 26.2 thought oh dear line is way in distance put a little rush on got to finish line 26.65miles text came 3hrs 59mins 56sec GET IN THERE pb by over 1hr 23mins in my 2ed marathon 1st marathon in new forest got cramp after mile 13 but got to finish.
Great channel bud x
Brilliant well done, I wish I could have done a little rush to the end line too! There was no chance though I was dead inside haha.
It was a great pleasure meeting you at the starting line! I am Andrea, the Italian guy leaving in Malta, I met you during your warm up!
Yes I remember! Hope the race went really well for you!
Can't wait for this channel to grow and grow, said it before criminally undersubscribed for the level of content!
Ah that's a really nice thing to say my friend.
This race was my first marathon and you were part of my inspiration to run my first marathon when I only really started running this year! Thanks for another relatable and great vlog.
That's so cool to hear! So after the first marathon have you been hit by the running bug now and want to run another?
Oh man Will, this was just so good to watch because anyone who has ever done a race can see their own experience in yours, from your arrival into the city onwards.
You are right to be very proud of your efforts last Sunday and look at the love you get from everyone there for the channel. Really great to see you get that support.
And you're right - you can't fluke and a marathon will find you out, and that's at any pace I think. l have Copenhagen in 3 weeks and as much as I love that event the most, me being found out in Newport last week has me pretty underconfident right now!
You'll get that sub 3 in Amsterdam I'm sure of it. That October temperature and the course and the crowds will get you there!
Ah really nice comment Chris, really glad you enjoyed it. What happened in Newport? Hope Copenhagen goes well.
@@TheWu I was feeling great and on pace for the first 16 miles and really comfortable and running sensibly. But something went wrong around that point and it wasn't physical but mental. I think it was being out in the countryside for so much of it! My brain just went in a kind of undermotivated state and I never got out of it. Plus to be honest, I just don't think I had it in me that day - body felt good throughout but just couldn't seem to get my brain to engage with the body!
Just one of those days I hope and not marking the start of the great decline now I'm in my 50s 😂
Great video, awesome run, love how raw and honest you were at the end. You’ve got the sub 3, you’re not making excuses, you will get it and the journey will make it all the sweeter. 💪💪
Thanks so much. Patiently bit by bit I'll get there in the end hopefully in Amsterdam!
Great content as always. Been looking forward to this video since the race!
Thanks for that. I spent a few nights editing it and glad it came out well for people to enjoy.
I'm a simple man. I see the Wu, I click, I enjoy.
hahahah love it!
Well done🎉🎉great content, lot of love out there for you ❤
Really appreciate the comment. I enjoy making the content and hopefully make it engaging to watch.
Great time, great vlog. You will get it next one. Looking forward to watching your next instalment of training and racing sub 3
Thanks, I think I'll try do some mini series for the road to Amsterdam.
Unbelievable effort mate, well done and keep up with the channel, I love it.
Ahh really appreciate the support of the channel.
You are amazing. Love watching you and blessed to have trained with you 🎉
Thanks Chris pal! love the support mate
Great run and time
Cheers Mark, appreciate it.
Well done! Saw you a few hundred metres in front of me mid race but couldn’t catch up. Brilliant coverage
Ah shame, would be good to get you on camera to say hello! Thanks for the comment mate.
Great job! You are awesome! Goals are important but what you are doing consistently matter even more :) Keep going!
Thanks, 2024 will be the year!
You did well, mate! The marathon is a beast. Even for me coming in at 04:06:28 at Copenhagen Marathon 2022. Cheers!
Well done to you too, so sub 4 for you next!
What an effort if you knew you weren’t in quite the right shape!
I spoke to you at the 5km drinks then saw you again at about 21 miles and thought you might have been able to cling on!
That finish line at Amsterdam will be even sweeter when you see the finish clock starting with a 2 💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks mate, ah yes if only I could have hung on haha. Hope the run was good for you and got what you needed.
Mate what a great video and a wonderful marathon, congratulations 🎉
That sub 3 is round the corner 💪
Thanks Kunal, it's a shame you didn't make it. Priya did fantastic though!
well done, great effort. I loved the day.
Thanks, yea it was a good event and really good weather conditions for a marathon too. Hope you smashed it.
So proud of you! 😊
hehe :D
🎉Well done🏃🏻♂️👌🏼
Thanks Petri!
I gave you a shoutout at chorlton (mile 24-25) and you still looked like you were moving well. You’re so close, and with all the things you’ve had going on I’d say that’s a supreme result. You should be bloody chuffed with the result lad!
Thanks man, ah those miles were really tough. I believe the 3hr pacer passed me on the 24th which mentality was gutting.
Nice one Wu, really captured pre event feeling!
Thanks, a bit of everything from feeling excited to having fun but not forgetting the intensity of pre race prep jitters!
Ha, I'm in this. West End top and Ben Parkes cap at 29 mins. Cracking run man, marathon is always a gamble. And 32 seconds is close enough that you know you've got it.
Ah yes I can see you. I might get a Ben Parkes cap, just wondered if they were super light or a bit thick.
@@TheWu pretty light, works great for me, but apart from running I don't wear caps.
Wow, you did such a phenomenal job considering the circumstances! Hats off to you! A great dad and a strong runner! It’s happening at Amsterdam!
It sure is, Amsterdam is going to be my first 😂
Cheers buddy! thanks for the kind words.
Runs 4k to the start…..legend 🎉
I also ran back to the hotel too. I got lost actually so ran around 6km on the way back 🫣 did over 50km that day 😂
great job. 32 second out is amazing and I'm sure youll get it soon!
Thank you, lets hope so mate!
Amazing Will !! a really well put together video, and a Sterling effort in the race, we really enjoyed watching it. 😅 That sub3, fingers crossed for you in Amsterdam, surely you'll get it there. Wife also says thanks, she really like the clip at 22:50. Thanks from me too, first time I've been in another youtubers video 😂
Was good to see you in the flesh. Thanks for the clip too. We both had good runs man, we are learning more each marathon.
With me its always my legs that give out before fitness. Well done mate. Looking for the next one.
I have experienced each one first , it’s a tough puzzle to crack.
Well done Will! You were brave, you fought hard and you almost had it! Can't be so hard on yourself after everything that's happened this year :)
Thanks for the support Ken as always!
Quality from you as always mate!! Inspiration. Sub 3 is coming very soon
Cheers man, I'm sure we will both get it!
Running a marathon and vlogging is beyond me. Fair play to you. And you should be proud of that time 👌
You should try it, its a challenge but it can be fun too! Thanks for the comments.
You got to be proud mate injuries and no training block still a good time always the next one pal
Yep I've surprised myself, also learnt a lot from this too.
Man, so, so close! However, incredible, inspirational effort!
Appreciate the comment. Glad it was enjoyable to watch.
Strong work. I feel your pain. Doing london on Sunday.
Oh nice, I would love to run London. I will enter the ballot again.
Hi wu. Im a new subscriber. Im really inspired by you. And your attitude 🙌
Thanks for subbing! That’s really cool to see. 🙏🏽 👍🏽
Thanks for subbing! That’s really cool to see. 🙏🏽 👍🏽
@@TheWu im from England to but im asian 😁 i hate this manchester specially the uphill 😂 they said its all flat! 😂 see you around wu. Stay safe and happy running 🙌
Super effort congratulations. You were so close to sub3. You’re already in sub3 shape no question. Bodes very well for the Autumn. I was only 12 minutes behind you myself!
Thanks man, I'm just checking your video out well done! That's a very organised kit lay out on the bed I must do this haha, i usually just chuck mine all over the place.
@@TheWu thanks v much. Trust me, I’m the same. I just had nothing better to do when I got back to the hotel at 8pm the night before!
Absolute savage. Roll on Amsterdam
Yes Amsterdam for us will be EPIC.
Fair play to you hopefully you'll reach your goal 👍
Hopefully this year 🙏🏽
@@TheWu I'm running London next week hoping to better my 3:08 but having doubts😬
Really enjoyed that mate , fantastic effort considering your lack of a solid training block . I’ve been looking for a replacement for my alpha v1s (still good for a while yet) and have been looking at the adidas pro 3 . Also been looking at Vaporfly 3 . What are your thoughts on these or has anyone got any other suggestions 👍🏃♀️💪
Thanks for the comment. Personally I prefer the Adidas pro 3 over my next %2. They are both fantastic options but my form isn't the best and the Adidas are more compensating for when I get sloppy. I haven't used the Vaporfly 3 only v2.
Ah The Wu I can't believe it. You've been so close TWICE now. That's so so close.
Great running though. That's an exceptional time.
A lot of the nice RUclipsrs running this one I notice.
Yea I met a good few who were vlogging that day. I love following other peoples running journeys. I think we all did good. Thanks!
Great video! At 23:16 that's Donato from Chatty Adventures RUclips channel.
Ah nice! I must check it out now.
Almost sub 3 off far from ideal training is a great result. Hope you're able to get plenty of miles in over the summer, do you have any other races planned before Amsterdam? 🎉🎊🏃🏻♂️🏅
Thanks my friend. Yes I have a few in the summer. I think I have a half marathon next and then a 10km.
Great try and effort. The Pftizinger and Douglas 55/70 plan got me sub 3 a few months ago. Are you on Strava? Love the content
Hi Marcus, yes I'm on Strava as William Fu. Appreciate it mate.
Great thanks, keep on working, sub 3 is just a matter of time for you.
We stayed 5 mins away each 😅😅 premier inn was expensive for 2 nights
Very expensive :(
I didn't enjoy it ment to be flat but to many hills and had worse cramps. My A and B goal was out of the window. Roll on to Amsterdam
Yep they do like to advertise it as a flattest course but it's not quite true. I think the Boston Lincolnshire is said to be the flattest. Manchester is still a fast course but definitely the few little inclines combined with the hilly part at 16 miles is something that can surprise people, especially if they have pacing strategy for a completely flat route.
Fantastic time and if you get a consistent training block for Amsterdam you'll go way under 3 hours.
That would be a dream. Thanks for the vote of confidence and support of the channel.
I ran it too. Excellent cinditions - temperature and overcast
How did you find the event?, hopefully it went well for you.
@@TheWu I achieved a PB in Valencia 2022, but I didn't have the opportunity to give my best. It was my 3rd run there (2018, 2019, 2022), but there were too many participants and "traffic" compared to previous years. So I researched for fast marathon in Europe for the spring. And it was my first visit to UK.
The conditions were perfect in Manchester and I PB-ed with almost 5 mins to 02:52
@@NerdyThrowbackTech oh nice, I was thinking to run Valencia, looks a nice course.
@@TheWu Valencia is very nice. The couese, the atmosphere and the city overall. But recently there are too many participants and it's a bit crowded
Really unlucky Will. I’m running a marathon next month. Not done a proper one before but definitely want sub 3.
First marathon sub 3 would be some accomplishment my friend!
@@TheWu yeah I’m not sure I’ll get it but I will try. I’m still new to this running stuff but love the videos etc you guys put up. First time or tenth time it doesn’t matter. I ran a marathon for completion 12 years ago so this feels like my first and I didn’t class myself as a runner back then. I think you’ll get sub 3 in the autumn.
Great acheivement which I can only dream of! I enjoyed this video. You seemed disappointed at getting 3:00:30 rarher than 02:59:30. 1) To my mind the two times are esentially the same 2) The gopro filming will have slowed you down 3) strava says you ran 26.48 miles not 26.2 so that means you ran 26.2 miles in 02:58:36 4) Your pace drop according to the graph at 29:35 was a lower percentage than average. No one else would describe this as blowing up. I dont think many people have equal splits.
I loved "bang on time (kind of)" at the start
Thanks for those stats! I think it was the way my body was feeling and how quickly it changed toward shutting down and basically I hit the wall. I was just carrying myself to the finish and praying for it to end, any further i would have had to completely stop and walk.
Good effort dude. Sub 3 is coming.
Cheers mate, always love the support from you!
Mate, honestly sooooo close. Just nail your pacing and you ARE fit enough. Just slightly too fast in some of those kilometres. You’ll easily get it next time. I’ve subbed. I like the colour in this vid. Nice grading.
Thanks buddy. Yes completely accurate looking back on the efforts and splits I ran some that were way too fast, I lost some discipline whilst being in the intensity of it all. Thanks for noticing the colour grading, I do like to tweak that. I've just caught up on your video too, enjoyed the commentary. Gonna watch the Paris one soon as well. I was thinking to run Paris in the future.
Congrats, you should be much more proud of yourself! Just a matter of time.
Thanks man I certainly was.
Great video Will, found your channel via Matt from Run The Planet who talked to you on camera from the start wave. I was out there all over the course supporting some friends and also @mattruns18 and you’ve got done great footage of him there. You did amazingly well, bang on 3 hours is superb given the issues at 38K. Good luck in AMS😊
Thanks for the support. Both Matt's did fantastic! It was good finally seeing them in person after following their running journeys for some time now.
The margins are so small. Not sure what your training looks like but for me it was more 22 milers.
There wasn't enough training for the long runs for sure. I was always anxious how I would feel around the later stages due to this.
@@TheWu once your body knows what 22 feels like it only a matter of holding on for 4 more miles. You are so close that you will go 2:57/58 in Amsterdam if you extend those LR
What a story. One day youll demolish sub 3 when you can train and sleep properly.
Thanks, its a story thats dragged on for much longer than I wish haha, but hopefully Amsterdam it all ends! It's my last chance saloon to run sub 3 before I turn 40! which is 2 days after Amsterdam!
Congratulations anyways...
Thanks!
All that talking requires energy. I would subtract some seconds off my time to reflect the time of the run NOT talking.
Yep it's always a challenge to film but since I'm not a pro or even a high level club runner I think its a little sacrifice thats well worth it for the future when I look back on all my races.
I wish you took less video so you can focus on your running. 😊
It is an extra challenge for sure trying to film and race hard but if I didn't I think I would regret it when I want to look back on my running journey in the future.
