I like that idea of useing hoses on end of bulkheads
Yep helped out a lot when I moved the tank a few weeks ago.
Impressed my friend...great setup....kudos to ole dad too 😎
Thank you!! Without my dad this tank wouldn't have been possible haha.
Yo this video helped me tremendously i have a 120 gallon that i want to setup as a saltwater tank but havent been able to figure out how to really set up the sump and what to use this video literally solved all my questions about the sump thanks dude
Glad to hear it man! Thanks!
Looks awesome do0od. Very similar to mine. Cept I'm painting my pipes
Amazing how you made it quiet and control the overflow. Awesome job on the design and plumbing. Cannot wait to see the next video on the 125 gal tank. 👍😀🐟🐟
Thank you!!
Should start flexible at pump outlet, it will crack over time.
That looks dame good
Thanks!
That is an awesome filter system!!! Wish you could come to my house and change mine to look like yours. I have this same 125 with discus and a really quick put together filter system.
Yah its not to hard to make this system, not expensive either compared to manufactured one, I prefer to make my sumps my own way so I can have exactly what I want you know.
how easy is it to access your skimmer for maintenance? I love the setup but looks buried back there.
Very nice I'm going to follow your sump build whay size sump? 40?
Incredible how you know how to build all this. I am so impressed.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😀
Thanks!!
Hi thank you for sharing your idea very clean and excellent work done what is the size of pvc pipe you use for plumbing and also the 2 inlet pipe at the sock for the sump are they detachable? Just in case if need remove the sump or equipment need to change out
Thank you! The pipe for the return I believe it 3/4" and the two drain pipes are 1" I think. All of the pipe is detachable so it can be remove if we had to move the tank or the sump.
You may want to consider replacing those metal clamps with plastic ratchet clamps are your return and overflow. Metal will corrode in saltwater and you don't want that near your sump.
They wont corrode if there is no leaks, they never corroded on me. They are stronger than plastc clamps.
@@EagleAquatics Simple evaporation is enough to cause oxidation followed by corrosion of the metal clamps. In time you will see.
@@jackdunn5147 Made sure they were stainless clamps, after 2 years they are still bueno
very good job, will you please tell mi how did you clean your overflow
With a turkey baster and cleaning brushes or toothbrush.
We’re did u get that safety return rubber pvc
Local pet shop
I have a question on the check valve you said its 1 inch but your pbc is 3/4 is that corect? So you juat needed an adaptor. Also on the check valve does it have to be glued or just screws together to the pump and onto the pbc.
The check valve is 1' in and outlet, same as my return piping. My overflow pipe is 3/4" pipe. You dont need an adaptor for the valve you just need one that has the same in and outlet size as your return. You glue the inlet and outlet to the return pipe and the check valve screw into those two if that makes sense.
What size is that hose on bulkhead and just attach on bulkheads? thx you
Not exactly sure but I believe its 1" ID Hose
Hey I'm gluing up my sump and before I'm gluing i thought I'd ask since you have a similar setup. Is that egg crate section after the refugium work out well how it is or would you rather have that section before the refugium after filter sock or both have 2 sections?
They egg crate section is mean to catch an debris from the refugium like cheato or other things from going into the tank. If you want to see how I made that section I have a whole video on how I built this sump. I would just do the section after the refugium.
is that hose connected around bulkheads only thx you
Yep, hose clamped for easy removal.
Hey first time plumbing a reef tank, (or any tank at all lol). Did you attach the flexible vinyl hose directly to the threaded bulkhead with the hose clamp or to pvc?
How we did that was, we glued a short piece of pvc inside of the bulkheads. Then we clamped the vinyl hose to the short pipe coming out of the bulkhead and to the pipes going to the sump. We used hose clamps for the vinyl hose.
Where’d you get the doors from? They look great !
My dad is a carpenter and had his cabinet company make them for this tank, they are custom.
I thought of having my returns come down into sump below water line like you did, but how do you get the sock out for cleaning if pipe goes that far into sump?
The sock holder allows me to lift the sock up, turn the ring and tilt it down. Then I shove the sock underwater and under the pipes and then remove it.
I made mines removable from bulkhead to sock connection. Easy breezy sock changes. Looks sweet bro. Keep up the good clean work
am working on my first sump 55 gallon my main tank is 220 my bafles will be 12 1/8 long by 121/8 height one inch off bottom of tank other one 121/8 Long - 121/8 - 73/8 height will these baffles work thx you
Sounds good, want to make sure some are on the ground so water can flow over them though.
What size is that flexible tubing with the 2 clamps?
The overflow is 1 inch inner diameter and the return id 3/4 inch inner diameter.
Question!!! I’ve been trying to find an answer to this question and maybe you can help.
How do regulate the amount of water being pumped out of the sump by the return pump without worrying that it will pump out to much water and leave the sump dry? Another words. How do you make sure that you are pumping the same amount of water that comes in?
Honestly it shouldn't matter how big you go with your pump, as your overflows will should be able to drain the water just as fast as its being pumped in.
@@EagleAquatics Provided the pump and plumbing are sized properly, if they are not there will be problems.
What happens if your return pump fails. Does your sump overflow?
Nope The key to preventing that is installing a check valve to stop the down flow of water
@@EagleAquatics awesome
Any reason why you didn’t plumb in emergency over flows ?
Not a bad idea but i didnt see the need to
@@EagleAquatics cant you just drill a hole in the return line above the water level ? It should stop the siphon like that.
Did he just pronounce it as “A-Qui-On”? I’ve always thought it was “Awk-Qui-On”.
Aqueon
I wanna do this but it looks so complicated and expensive 😩
Not complicated but expensive
Would have been more helpful if you shown show tank also !!!
I have a million videos of this tank, check out my playlist.
Sounds loud
Grey pvc 🤦 schedule 80
Yessir
Do you work in pet store ?
Yes chicago fish and coral company
Eagle Aquatics I recognized your voice. I shop there and I have asked you for advice. I also have a 125 gallon setup.
Sweet man!!
Can you tell me dimensions of the acrylic PCs that you used?
They are cut 17" long and 10" high, they are 1/4" acrylic pieces
