  • Black Panther Wakanda Forever had to undergo many changes to the original script after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. In this exclusive interview with Marvel executive Producer, Nate Moore, he revealed to me what the original script had planned for the new character. See what could have happened had T'Challa been recast for the Black Panther sequel. Let me know your thoughts on the interview.

I like how you brought in the IMPORTANCE of Storm..and Black love, Nate Moore decided that wasn't important since he didn't marry a Black woman anyway.
Snap or not, he would've married Nakia if he felt that he could just be having wanton sexcapades with Nakia, with no condom.

I remember reading somewhere that Chadwick really enjoyed doing the voiceover work for T’Challa on the What If cartoon and he approached the accent with a different tone than what he had been using before. Even the attitude of the character was different he told Kevin Feige that he would love to bring this new take on T’Challa to the sequel when it was time but unfortunately we know what happened. That tells me he was definitely excited to continue playing T’Challa and was looking forward to evolving the character even more.

AWWWWW I feel the same way. We need to see positive black fathers and it would have a massive impact in the Blackest (Marvel) Movie. I hope they still recast or find more dynamic ways to portray Black men in a strong and powerful way. The first movie was so empowering and this one was deflating. Unfortunately this movie amplified negative stereotypes around Black Love (single motherhood) and dismantled another powerful strong united Black Family. I believe they have always planned on having Storm and Prince T'Challa play out that arch since they had to wait on their rights to X-Men. Thank you for your persistence around the necessity to continue presenting strong, loving, and leading Black Males! ♥

Marvel is making a massive mistake by not recasting.
They need better writers. Ones that aren't tone deaf. It was bad enough that they demonized T'Chaka, using him as nothing more than a prop, and the way they had T'challa screaming and lecturing his elder/father was also tasteless. I guess there's a quota, that limits how many honorable black men are allowed on the screen at a time.
That's bad enough. But they really obliterated their credibility, the way they portrayed Nakia and T'challa's relationship.
T'challa would never diminish or dishonor the throne. Him knocking up the help out of wedlock is as stereotypical as it gets. Part of what makes T'challa the great king and protector, is his self denial, discipline, and class. It's why him and Storm were a couple. They share those qualities.
To kill T'challa's and end his story arc with the revelation of a bastard child, is as offensive as it gets. And for Marvel to throw the T'challa jr angle like it repairs or replaces the need for a recasting is a sick joke.
I will not support the franchise unless they recast T'challa, or I'm allowed to horse whip the writers who put that abomination(not to be confused with the abomination) in the script.
    Recast T'challa.

Hmm at first I thought 'hmm wait wtf thats not only effed up Nakia did that (not telling T'Challa he has a 6 year old son for years) but also a stereotypical trope of absentee father, but then I remembered T'Challa DIED in 2018 and remained dead for 5 years until he (and Shuri) came back to life Oct 2023 by way of Hulk using the Infinity stones to snap everyone who died from Thanos snap back to life. Given how this movie plays out, it kinda feels like Disney Marvel forgot about that too as if they treat T'Challla's passing like its the first time its happened nor do they make any mention of Shuri being dead for 5 years or half of Wakanda being dead for 5 years (because if so, how come the world's leaders werent on Wakanda's ass during those 5 years when they had no Black Panther and half their people were gone?)
So T'Challa in the original script must have been told at the end of the movie as Nate says, by Nakia.
But what that also probably means is the original script may or may not have had a one year time jump (as T'Challa in this movie, died one year after he came back to life; circe end of 2024, as this movie takes place mostly towards the end of 2025)
So it'd be interesting to know if said original script was still meant to take place in 2025.
If so, that still would mean Nakia hid T'Challa Jr. from T'Challa.
Did she also hide him from Queen Ramonda during those 5 years? If so, why?
It didnt even make sense to me why she and Queen Ramonda, hid him from Shuri for an entire year (since Shuri too was dead for 5 years but there's a 1 year time jump in this movie)

Three strikes your out in the law. Three deaths your dead. It's a shame that they didn't recast TChalla so we could have learned of his back story. Great respect to you and I hope that they test the market. I truly thought wakanda forever was a building of each character and not the Namor. There was a need of back stories of all the characters especially Shuri and every one of the major characters in Wakanda Forever. Thanks and keep us in the loop.

One thing I noticed in the interview was Nate Moore’s lack of direct eye contact. He was constantly looking down to the right during his answers. He only looked up to see if you accepted his answer. I’m no body language expert but I’m betting the answers were rehearsed and not necessarily truth.

First off I don't believe Nate sounds like he saying things just to escape criticism. We know they changed the script back in 2021 there's an article that says they'll be giving T'Challa a son. It was a forced move and still doesn't sit right with me on no fundamental level. T'Challa is supposed to be the Anti-Stereotype. Making him a baby father is the worse on trope on top of a horrible cliche. I already explained my disposition on this subject. I'd also like to bring up my idea I proposed. I say this as a Black Man who views positive Black Representation as an all time must. So my idea was a two on one. If they wanted to keep Toussaint keep him but have a variant T'Challa from another universe who lost everything show up. His world was destroyed and he felt as if he failed Wakanda but he was able to escape through a portal. He lands on the beach meets this version of Shuri, Nakia and Toussaint he recognizes Nakia because his Nakia became Malice. He introduced him self as T'Challa son of T'Chaka and his mother is N'Yami and his uncle is S'Yan. Then Toussaint walks up to him. T'Challa ask "Who are you?" Toussaint tell him who he is "Toussaint is my Haiti name but my Wakandan name is T'Challa son of King T'Challa." And we end the film on that note. Yes not perfect but we get the proper T'Challa he gets to redeem himself well as get to be a father. He isn't tied to Nakia so we can get him to fall in love with Storm when she's introduced into the MCU. We get Shuri and T'Challa as Black Panther. That's a compromise and a win for us all. Even if we don't like the idea of Toussaint because it's early and forced it works.

I think based on the post credit scene, marvel's approach to this is they'd pay their respects to Chadwick boseman in black panther 2 and use the new character to carry on the legacy of TChalla, hence his name. Had they stuck to the original script I'm pretty sure the kid would have had a different name, granted black panther 2 was all over the place but given the circumstances surrounding the movie, there was ALOT going on and I think theres abit of a light at the end of the tunnel, with them gettinng it right with the new TChalla character.

Zemo was in Wakanda the whole time during everything of BP2 🤯
How is Ayo of the Adora at the funeral of Tchalla the same time she was in the Falcon and Winter Soldier show. Marvel timelines Falcon show was during spring 2024, Tchalla died spring 2024. Adora were running around with Winter Soldier and Falcon trying to hunt and capture Zemo?? Soo how is that possible?? Wouldn't they abandon everything for the ailing king? Cant be two places at once.😬😐 oooh PlotHole
Soo by my estimation, if she did make it there, then the trial and/or imprisonment of Zemo was during Tchalla's death and funeral. ZEMO (the man who killed King Tchaka in Civil War) is there in Wakanda the whole time. But no one mentions him. He must have been there during Namor's attack, the flood, the Queen's murder, everything. Yet Queen Romanda does not mention him? Ayo doesn't mention him? No one mentions the man who killed Tchalla's dad??? 😬
    Ouuuch BIGGER PLOTHOLE.

It's apparent that Marvel still wants to use T'challa's storylines, And who can blame them? T'challa is one of their only flagship Heroes whose story hasn't been told in full. My only issue is that It would have been easier to keep T'challa alive than to time-skip so the boy could be of age. If Marvel isn't careful they run the risk of convoluting the chronology. That being said, I'm going to give Feige, Moore, & Coogler grace. And wait and see how they develop T'Junior and integrate him into the larger universe.

Idk, it’s one thing if the son character was part of the original script and having T’Challa have to reconcile with being gone due to the Blip and missing out……BUT….having this poor kid exist with T’Challa being DEAD has a whole different unsettling context and I am not here for that. As soon as they knew they weren’t going to bring T’Challa back (and they damn well should), the kid should have been cut from
the story entirely. Assuming he really WAS an original element of an early draft, then that element should not have ever gone to screen. The “Dead Guy Jr.” trope is so egregiously toxic and I hate it 😭. No. Cute kid, but he should never have been a thing as soon as they made the decision to refuse to reconcile T’Challa’s existence with Mr. Boseman being gone.

    Great interview!
Regarding Storm, she's been my favorite fictional character across all mediums, nearly my entire 40y lifespan. I've never been a fan of her romance with T'Challa; I feel he doesn't deserve her. To me, Storm is a free spirit, and I feel that T'Challa always tries to cage her. I'm fine with Storm having a brief fling with T'Challa Jr. while on her treck to Kenya from Egypt as a young lady. But if she and Jr. end up getting married at some point, I hope that it is WAY down the line, because there are other romances she's had that I want to see explored first. Personally, if I had my pick of long-term romances for Storm, I would like her to be with Yukio; she's the one person I feel has been most worthy of Storm.
All that said, I know I'm probably in a very small minority, but I still respect those who love the Storm/T'Challa marriage. Whatever happens, I hope Marvel handles Storm with the utmost care and respect.

Much respect to you E-Man for the sit down with one of the heads at Marvel. With all my upmost respect for Mr. Coogler and Nate Moore, I feel the idea of giving a son to T’Challa even if Chadwick was still here would be too early for the character. The character to me and maybe others need to continue to resonate with T’Challa first in a few films before him having a child and getting married. Like I understand the the positive black father image but making him a dad in a sequel is too soon. Though T’Challa is not like Peter Parker who’s a teen then adult then get married and have a child. T’Challa yes is already a adult but making him a dad is too early, he should be married and have a child with one woman which is storm later down the line not potential having a kid with nakia then maybe marrying Storm later on. How would this work wait 20 years for the child to grow?
Love marvel but wish they thought this out for the future and remember that T’Challa, son of T’Chaka, is the central character of the mythos. Please MCU #RecastTChalla 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️
