    #1 TIP ON CENTERING THE TENACIOUS NEVER TAKE IT APART!

  • @mrsw916

    Your surprise at there being 4 washers present reminds me of the first time I took my g10 tenacious apart...and found 5

    • @Antimonyish
      @Antimonyish 3 года назад +1

      I emailed them about that, back then they were using washers to make up for tolerances and center the blade. You'll notice that the liners and especially the lockbar is much thinner on these newer Tenacious models. They look like crap on the inside to be honest.

      Mine only had 3 lmao. Still works fine and it's close to centered. Just a beater knife for me so it's not a big deal

    Hello there Nick, first of all thanks for your amazing work and amazing channel, keep up the good work. Regarding the centering problems of the spyderco tenacious lightweight (also the g10 version) I found out that usually the problem is a bend in one of the two steel liners. Mine had the show/presentation side inner liner completely bent/kinked outwards and straightening it back up solved the problem and centering was perfect. Again, thanks for everything, have a wonderful rest of your day, bye now.

    I’ve got two Spyderco Tenacious knives. Disassembled both, reassembled them and no matter what I try to do. The blade centering strongly favors the non lock side identically.

    Spyderco has decided that “light weight” markets better than calling it FRN, I can’t see why else they’d call something like this “light weight”

    • @pitiedvod
      @pitiedvod 4 года назад

      So much this. Compared to the LW para3, the new light weight versions don't really compare as all they are, are swapped over scales from G10 to FRN.

    Just got a tenacious. It's my first spyderco and really like the shape and feel of it. But it's sooo stiff. If I loosen the pivot, the blade gets of center and is pretty much touching the liner. Tried everything but can't make it better. What would happen if I only use one washer per side? Then maybe I can tighten the pivot down so the blade is centered and still have decent action.

    Good video Nick! Got one of these in full black yesterday went to change the clip over to tip up right and one of the screws just fell into the hole as there were no threads present. Was hugely disappointed especially as paying nearly 80 dollars for this in the UK. Quality control on these knives is getting worse in my opinion. Now the bother of having to send it back!

      @David Spyderco Tenacious family of knives had soft screws 10 years ago and they are still soft even though the prices have gone up. Also the lightweight designation, why bother it`s only half an ounce lighter.

    So can you put aftermarket tenacious scales on a lightweight then? Normally you cant put regular scales on a lightweight such as the para 3 but with the scales being the same does anyone know?

    • @mrsw916
      @mrsw916 4 года назад +1

      The liners do look similar to regular Tenacious liners, but I think you'd have to just give it a shot to know. It does not work on the Para3 LW due to the fact that there is actually only one liner, unlike the original Para3 which has two liners

    This is the antidote to buying a knife that you don't really need - thanks Nick for showing us reality 👍 Shocked by the poor quality control and generally (given the price) unsatisfactory nature of this Spyderco product 😝 Disassembly gives you the (sometimes ugly) truth, no question.

    Gonna have to do this to mine tonight. Hit the pavement at work and skidded across the sidewalk, now it's nowhere near centered, and the action makes is really difficult and annoying to open, because of it

    Usually spyderco uses a hole bottle of lock tight on there screws I’m surprised it came apart that easy. But that is strange you had trouble with the centering.

    Got a tenacious (my first spyderco) with the lightweight scales. Hated them. Took them off and put on some Micarta scales. Reassembled the knife as it came apart but it is nothing near as smooth as it was when I first got it. More than likely operator error but still very disappointed.

    I am having trouble centering the blade in the frame of my Tenacious and acheiving the desired tension at the same time.
    Any suggestions ? I have had it for 3-4 years, I guess that means no warranty. Should I take it apart? Do I need new washers ?

    Simply close the blade and back the pivot out till almost free then tighten back to normal then loosen with micro turns to center that blade. And Stop using so much lock tight. The more you use the tolerance on tension get thrown way off

    i hate my Tenacious LW. sent it back to Spyderco to try and get the action and centering fixed. they said they couldn’t do anything since i opened it up. so it still has TERRIBLE centering and a TERRIBLE action. i love my Para 3 but i’m done with cheap spyderco’s. they obviously don’t put the same effort into their budget knives

      Soumds like you damaged the washers.
      Perfectly reasonable for them to not help you, since the damage was caused by disassembly. Theyve never refused a warranty issue for me, and i always tell them ive opened the knife. Then again, i can reassemble a knife without breaking anything, and dont blame manufacturers for my mistakes.
      You should have just emailed them and asked for new washers. As long as youre patient, and not a dick, they send them out with no charge.

    • @poisonousnut

      Eyedea315 ok...so the knife arrived to me from Blade HQ with the blade nearly touching the liner. the blade also required two hands to open due to the pivot action. i’ve been taking apart and reassembling knives for a few years now. your assumption that damage was caused by disassembly is incorrect. it arrived in this condition. if you watch all of this video you’ll notice he had similar issues with the centering. one question for you Eyedea...how many quality knives do you own that require 4 washers?

    Nick we're there cracks near the lock bar. Even if they were imperfections in the metal it could lead to cracks and lock breaking.
