Oh my effing god. I listen to this daily. I am so effing glad others are out there appreciating this man's talent.
Hey Tris! How's the evening?
I was no doubt asleep by the time you commented. This mans' rendition of his song is the barometer by which I measure a singers' range, tone, & artistic expression. I actually Do listen to this daily...
@@trismaccarran9950 don't even worry about getting back soon. I didn't get a notification that you'd replied, but Greg told me on another video that he'd commented more, so I came back here. :)
I was actually in bed with some gorilla Purp (weed) listening to this very song less than a minute before T posted this one. I never dreamed someone else would request it; the Only reason I didn't myself is that I wasn't sure T would be able to upload the video. I'm just glad he heard it...
@@trismaccarran9950 you're probably a bit psychic when it comes to YT. I made Tina look up Janis Ian's At 17, and Jayy just uploaded Stevie Nicks' Edge of 17. Didn't quite get it right, but I was amazed before my eyes focused, lol.
TTD was tragically overlooked. Just incredible talent.
He wasnt overlooked he said himself he didnt want the fame of the american machine. thats the reason he moved to europe
Super musician, vocalist and really nice guy. From a lifelong family friend. His parents and I have worked in the same ministry over 40 years. I haven't seen him for years but always in touch with his siblings and parents.
His voice was always otherworldly, I mean come on.....one of the absolute best soul vocalists
"Goodbye, Picasso. Hello, Dali." is one of the most clever lyrics he's done.
It really is great, isn’t it? And the theatrics of that line alone I love so much. It’s just so weird and cool.
His approach to music def more European; no one could ever replicate this performance, imo.
You sure it's not 'Hello Dolly'?
@@raulpenaranda1077 Nop. He's comparing Painters styles.. Thats the sense... Goodbye Picasso, hello Dalí.
i thoiught it was hello dolly
I loved your reaction because you get it! Terence Trent D”Arby (aka Sananda Francesco Maitreya) is one of the most underrated artists of our time! He voice is like no other and his songwriting is like art! The imagery is so strong and thought provoking! It’s really deep, too deep for most! He is one amazingly soulful musician!❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you!
🎯
💯 agree with you
I’m glad to see more younger people come across Sananda Maitreya’s phenomenal live performances where he displays his phenomenal vocal ability.
All poets must have an unrequited love is the best lyric I’ve ever heard, just beautiful and deep, so pure
My absolute favorite line….
It didn´t take me more than one minute to realize... This is an Artist. The light shining over his head, and his talent shining brighter than the light. Otherwordly
He's very humble Tees, I meet him in Vegas once passing through the Hard Rock Casino 😉😎😉😎😱 I yelled out " Hey Terrance &he looked dead at me & he motioned me to come over & we had cool as conversation about his music 😉😎😱 for about 15 minutes or so 😉😎😱😁😁😁😁😁😁
Lucky you 😲
@@trismaccarran9950 🤣😂🤣😂 me & my silly self asked him if he was an impersonator, Vegas is full of impersonator's & I'm so glad that he didn't take offense to cuz he pulled out a stack $100 dollar Bill's, laughed at me & said would an impersonator have a stack like this ? Come on & me by you a drink & I did it was so cool 😉😎👌
@@trismaccarran9950 he still had his dred's still 😁😁😁👌😎😉
@@gregwilliams9737 I couldn't care less; were he bald, there's yet That Voice. Sublime. My ex, who's a musician himself, met Sanandas' guitar player in Europe & they spent the day together (at Jimmy Pages' place, no less). To've been a fly on the wall...
@@trismaccarran9950 oh my, what a cool experience, the last thing he told me was that I treated him like a person & didn't get all celebrity struck 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 you know how people get when they recognize a celebrity 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 they always put them on pedestal 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 well not me, they're all human just like the rest of us, they have the same choices & decision's & simple lives to live just like the rest of us & just cuz they're a celebrity doesn't make them anymore human than we are 😱😉😎👌😁🤣😂 at least to me 😉😎👌
I saw him in Cambridge (UK) a few days before this show. His humility was enchanting, his performance was electric and he is one of the greatest voices of all time.
He wrote and produced his own songs and can play 20 different instruments but he was judged because he was around the same time as MJ and Prince he left the music industry for a while that's why he changed his name to Sanada Maitreya.
Terence Trent Darby is a bad man !!! One of the most underrated Artist in the 80's & 90's. Vocally he always reminded me of the Late Great Sam Cooke. Since then hes legally changed his name to (Sananda Maitreya), resides in Milan, Italy & still making music til this day !!!!
I'm lucky enough to have heard this song 15 years ago, loved it ever since.
Somebody FINALLY sees this mans talent.... Raw talent, LOVE IT!! Listen to this song daily.
This is a masterpiece. We loved him back in the late 80s, so incredibly talented. I'm so happy he's still getting attention and new fans.
Omg this has me in tears his soul was there with him eyes closed the whole time sing his soul out BEAUTIFUL
That brother is channeling the Holy Ghost right there! My goodness!
So glad you get generation is discovering this massively talented artist…..also pay attention to the lyrics aside from his outrageous singing ability.
Thanks for the love. This is my oldest brother and I appreciate such positive words.
I'd like to suggest that anyone who loved this listen to the entire concert: It's London 1995, find it on Sanandas' youtube channel. There's a wonderful acoustic version of Sign Your Name from this same night. Still delighting in the fact that there are more people who appreciate this mans' stunning vocal range, & the control he has with it. Peace, all....
Thanks for the tip! I will definitely watch. He did a two part interview on Martyn Ware's podcast recently. (Electronically Yours) Martyn, of Human League and Heaven 17, produced Hardline According To...
Cool✌I've watched several interviews with Terence/Sananda; he's both intelligent & articulate. He also wrote the finest human rights song I've ever heard & which he performed at a huge concert for Nelson Mandela. It's called As Yet Untitled & can be found here on yt
It would be great to see him gig in Italy where he now lives. He’s music is different now but still has the passion and amazing voice.
Slays me every time. Welcome to the church of letting go.... preach sir!
I never get tired of this performance! Its stunning!!!! 🇵🇹 Cheers everyone ✌️
Same!!!
Man this dudes voice is captivating, I'm sold, a fan big time.
Why didn't I hear about this decades ago? This is gorgeous.
He is EVERYTHING
His voice & vocals are sooo soothing
I can envision birds dropping from trees hearing this 😁

When I first started listening to reaction videos, I Mail bombed all the reactors to react to this performance, but not one took me up on it...I cannot tell you how ecstatic I was to see this in your list of reactions. Because to me its the greatest live performance I ever did see. Terrence's story of being under appreciated followed him from the USA to the UK he had a few hits over here. But again disappeared into obscurity... cannot thank you enough for reacting to this, I was a bit of a nelly while watching it saying wow, I cried.....OMG love this video...
I hear you on this. Any singer can point to their finest vocal performance of a piece of their music on any given night. This is Sanandas' finest performance of this song, and I've seen them all. Love the acoustic version of Sign Your Name, as well, same concert..
I did the same lol nobody would play it
That's quite the scathing commentary on peoples' perception of true music. Unfortunately, an accurate one.
One of if not my all time favourite artists and vocalists and I still listen to him weekly. Sanada Maitreya formerly known as Terence Trent De Arby. Still rocking this jam in 2022
I love this music! It's pure poetry.
From Brazil 🇧🇷
Some of my family friends loved Michael Jackson most of all.
Some loved Prince the most.
Terence Trent D'Arby was MY favorite.
He was the best singer of my lifetime. And he was A POET. This ballad, if you check the lyrics, is the most beautiful words ever put to a love song IMO.
I have been watching this performance for over ten years now and I am so happy some of the RUclips reactors are getting around to it.
Great reaction on your part. Thanks.
He Did give a fine reaction, didn't he?
Yeah Terrence was a beautiful writer and soulful expressionist. A true artist. I missed his work. Listened to him on replay a lot when that album came out as well as the first. A shame people didn't appreciate him enough.
Love me some Terence Trent D’Arby! He’s a Pisces and gentle soul by nature. My favorite songs by him are Wishing Well and of course Sign Your Name. ❤
Thanks for Sharing! 😊
The guitarist Brilliant, musicians Brilliant Terence truly Brilliant
One of the most underrated music artists, he didn't sign his name on the dotted and if he did he got out, while his still could. His first album when I was in my twenties is one of my favourites of all time. Enjoy, love from Australia.
He's still alive thank god, we've lost so many singers.
This man was and still is so f'ng underrated. Thank you young brotha for reacting to this. You did that Terence ✊🏾(Sananda Maitreya)
Been waiting on somebody to do this version. This version is simply amazing 👍
I remember seeing a young man called Terence Trent D’arby on Top of the Pops and thought he has a great voice. Then I bought his albums and realised he was a modern lyrical genius who was truly underestimated
This live performance sums up the brilliance and talent that is Sananda Maitreya.
A big shout out the that brilliant guitar player as well.
Thank you for bringing this diamond out of box of treasure . Thanks for the request.
The soft organ is phenomenal 👌😎😉
He is really talented and a gorgeous singer and songwriter. God may bless him and his talent. He is awesome.
soy de México y mi mamá ama a ttd, yo también amo su música, es muy talentoso
I had his first cassette tape for like 20 years. I mean the same tape. It never got eaten and then I lost it somewhere.
I got back into him about 15 years ago. He should have never lost relevance. I think spends most of his time in Europe.
He lives in Milan, Italy, with his Italian wife and two sons. Still writing & performing music..
Great Artist! “Sign Your Name” is the one I know best. He sings this song with so much feeling. He looks great even without his long dreads😊
Wow... I've only heard the album version. He is riffing! Brilliant!
ikr....whole soul in it
One of my favorites. You should check out his other songs and performances.
He is an underrated artist. His voice and range is incredible.
Under rated by the uninitiated, perhaps. And certainly not by other singer/songwriters. I saw him on a French talk show with Stevie Wonder, and Stevie said his favorite song was Sign Your Name.
I remember finding this gem during a period of my life when I needed healing & Oh did Sanada( Terrence) speak to me, and helped mend my shattered spirit .I listened over, and over, and OVER again. I remember him from the eighties, when I was a little kid, but finding him as an adult has been a treasure indeed. My brother was definitely before his time, and deserves his flowers NOW!!! 💐
The whole concert was unbelievable.
I have this on blast in the car almost every day.....
You have to understand. America sometimes sleep on the real ish. TTD is the real deal. The minute he stop producing typical hits. The man is stellar vocalist. He changed his name got away from the machine and lives in Italy. I've been a supporter from 87. Thanks for the reaction.
If you puff puff & listen to this it hits you harder with his lyrics & vocals
You ain't kidding on that: each night, puff puff followed by this masterpiece performance. It's as he tells the audience: a benediction.
@@trismaccarran9950 yyyyyeeeeesssss, I was hoping someone would catch that reference & how I meant it 😉😎👌😁 thank you 😉😎👌😁
Such a beautiful voice ! One that is so Rare!
Such an emotional performer, feels every word... luv!
I never heard this guy before. Awesome! Thanks for who ever sent this in.
It wasn't me, only cause I didn't know whether he'd be able to upload the video
You might have heard "sign your name" that's him.
Thank-you for reacting!
Love your channel
@@trismaccarran9950 thank-you Tris!
That guitar does take a hold on you don't it & then his vocals come in
Goes by Sanada Maitreya for the last 20 years
I’m lucky enough to have been around when Darby first hit the scene in the 80s. He set the world on fire, but never had the expected follow-up success, although the music was always amazing.
amazing singer with the best lyrics for a song
D'arby is amazing. He goes by Sananda Maitreya now. Love his voice!
I luv him. this was one of the greatest performances. the lyric the man . the guitarist, the musicans God.
Love TTD! He tore it up live and in the studio. The Vibrator album is my fave.
Glad to see you branching off to TTD. In my opinion He picked up where Sam Cooke left off. Very soulful, smoky voice.
Def Sam Cooke, love his rendition of Wonderful World, but also Al Green
Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, but on an ethereal level.
wow thanks I have the flu and I'm balling my eyes out because I love him soooo much he (TERRENCE) has scarred my soul
Unbelievable...Just absolutely real form...all of that...healing, blues, realism emotions...🤗
I love "Wishing Well", but this is my favorite song by Terrance.
That was great. Thanks for reacting.
Thanks for doing this. Sorry for going over the time limit. I’m so glad you liked it. I also appreciate that you don’t restrict requests to super popular songs. That’s one of the draws of channels like yours. And it gives people who love music - like LOVE music - a chance to get the word out about artists that are unknown or under-appreciated.
Your request? Damn, this performance is the gold standard, in my book. I listen to it daily, no b.s.
Thanks! That was truly epic!
Nice choice, Coldrush!

Just got around to it. She's so cute, & her voice is like a child, but she hit the nail on the head re this song "coming from deep inside him". Thnx..
Saw this performance in Palo Alto CA USA it was his last American tour. Was at his 1st American Tour 1984 Fillmore in San Francisco CA Love this man, he is phenomenal ❤❤
Sananda has been my absolute favourite 1987, and I'm gratified that you found him.
what a fantastic voice ,very overlooked.
Love love love his music!
There will never be another vocalist like this.
Underrated classic, TTA was phenomenal, he was an incredible talent, he was down to earth, who just got burnt out by the BS.. the hate machine sabotaged his career. Extraordinary performance.
Dude can sang
I just stumbled on to your reaction to this amazing song by this underappreciated artist. I had been listening to him just before I saw this. You have a new sub! Thanks for doing TTD!
Never heard this one before, thanks!
Me ether & it's badass 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😱😎😉😁😁😁
But once you hear it, you never forget it..
his actual artistic name is SANANDA MAYTREA e he lives in Italy with his powerfull voice and gigantic talent. I´m a brazilian fan of Terence.
This guy has a boat load of talent! When we are living with all these mediocre artists today, this guy is for real--a shining jewel 💎. Sorry he was not truly recognized for his soulfulness.
Sooooooooooo true
One of the best performances ever
Oh, man. I miss his braids, but that voice is still phenomenal. 💜💜💜
Thankyou for this.🙏❤ My favourite song for years
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video by such an amazing artist. One of my favourites. What a voice 😍 🤩🙌
Rock & Soul, my favorite flavor. Thank you Sananda, and thank you Teez for such a rapt & appreciative reaction. Now you get why I'm picky re singers: blame it on this performance. Back in the day, some reporter referred to him as arrogant: He'd asked him a question as he was moving through an airport, to which Terence replied with some Oscar Wilde quote that sailed right over his head. Small wonder he left the U.S. behind...
A lyrical masterpiece 👌🏾
Wishing Well is another good one to react if you already haven't Tees 😉😎
😂🤣😁👌😎😉 Terrance is killing it 😂🤣😁👌😎😉
Un fkn real .. best vocalist ever
Pretty close to my reaction upon first seeing/hearing this. I was high on some GSC, had to listen several times 🎶
Your expressions are saying it all Tees😁👌😎😉
That brotha can sing his ass off
He's an unrecognized badass Tees 😁😉😎😱😁😉😎
yeah, so beautiful.
Thank you for this one!
😉😎 I ❤ how you listen to these song's & let them hit you Tees, it's very impressive to me 😉😎
Absolutely love him, his music ❤
He's the only singer who could sound like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Michael Jackson in the same phrase. Criminally overlooked here in the States, which is why he doesn't live here anymore (and changed his name as well). "All poets must have an unrequited love"-basically, yep.
Oh TTD where is the amazing hair gone ! The TTD I remember in my teens ,Dance lil sister, Sign your name and If you let me stay had the great dance moves and the Fab dreads ! 🔥 He still got that amazing deep soulful voice so that's Just A Gift he has still ! 🌟 🤩 Awesome performance here 👏
I keep trying to get Dance Little Sister reacted to because it's such a funky groove and my favorite of his, fast song-wise, it's so good! Maybe one day?!
