    Nooo, there’s no similarity to Michael Jackson or prince. Darby is on a much higher plane vocally. But they do represent kind of a holy trinity of music: Terence for vocals and pure soulfulness, Michael for dancing and showmanship, and prince for songwriting and musicianship.

    Hi there. Loved both your reactions. Haha, I'm the Guitarist in red whose solo you interrupted. Thanks dad for pointing out proper etiquette to the younger generation. I had the Sincere Honor of recording & touring with TTD from '92 to '02. He was a Wonderful Friend & even a Better Boss. He writes his own songs, plays dozens of instruments, has the agility of a cat and a threat to many so called "Artists" because of his Amazing Talents. MJ was nowhere near all the Vocal, Writing & Musicianship skills that TTD has shared with the World. I'd say that even if we hadn't been such great friends. No "Yes Men" needed, just "Raw Talent". BTW, That venue in London is where The Dixie Chicks got "Blacklisted" criticizing Pres. Bush. I hope you might have enjoyed some of the other artists I recorded for like the 4 Non Blondes CD & hit "What's Up" with 1.1 Billion views on YT (I'm not in the video, just audio). Macy Gray "I Try", Belinda Carlisle, Hilary Duff, Darlene Love, New Edition, Taylor Dane, Bobby Brown and many more. Thank you for reviewing this Spellbinding show. We did 2 nights there. I, along with the audience, would cry at some of our shows because they were just that emotional. Music Is Medicine. Take Good Care Guys - Louis Metoyer

Who knew that he was going to use that for his musical career. Wishing Well is good, but my his whole debut album is fire. My favorite song by my cuz is Seven more days. He wasn't a one hit wonder. Sign Your Name and Dance Little Sister were also top 40 hits for him. If You Let Me Stay only reached #68, but I remember seeing it played a lot on MTV and hearing it on the radio a lot. I'm hazy as to why he later on became hated here in the States. I remember he was portrayed as arrogant and he may have called out America as being racist, but back then we only got our sources through print and network media. So it was very confusing as to what happened to him, with the narrative only coming from one side.

    I loved your reaction. I think his comparison to Michael and Prince is partially due to them all being deeply influenced by James Brown! Terence Trent D”Arby (aka Sananda Francesco Maitreya) is one of the most underrated artists of our time! He voice is like no other and his songwriting is like art! The imagery is so strong and thought provoking! It’s really deep, too deep for most! He is one amazingly soulful musician! I loved how she caught how much his dad meant to him! He speaks about his dad in his songs Never Turn My Back On You and As Yet Untitled both from his debut album, Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby! He was labeled difficult because he believed is the purity of his music and fought for that! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

      @GinaGeeILuvu 2 года назад +6

      He also had chart topping hits in the US with Sign Your Name and Dance Little Sister and a song called Delicate which was a duet with Desiree!! He had other songs that did not crack the top ten like, If you Let Me Stay, so he was far from a one hit wonder! ❤️❤️

      @@TheAdventuresofTNT Yup, the very moment Sony (Michael Jackson's label at the time) swallowed up Columbia (TTD/Sananda's label back then), it was O-V-E-R for that brotha. No way was he gonna get the same breaks or even respect that both his new labelmate and "His Royal Badness" ended up getting prior. And as you said, he finally had enough of the BS and left America behind for the much more welcoming arms of Europe soon as his "poison pill" contract with Sony was up in the mid-'90s. Been there ever since, still cranking out high-quality music at a prolific level too! Best career move he ever made, looking back. Had he stayed here still trying to break through, probably would've ended up dead just like his two main influences. I'm just glad I managed to get all of his official studio releases on CD when he was still known by his original name before they finally went OOP because my collection would've been quite empty without 'em (lol)! Truly the last great solo artist America has produced during the last century, what a damn shame...

    Whoa! You've made my day with this reaction; another reactor to whom I'm subbed did this at my request recently (mr video). I just want to tell you what a wonderfully insightful reaction this is, love the back & forth between you two. This is not the same song as on the album, he's riffing here for the live performance, and what a performance it is. Todays' "singers" care not one whit about audience satisfaction, whereas Sananda embraced a more European approach that says give it all you've got, leave it on the stage, & bow to the audience in appreciation for their patronage.
    Did I say I love this song 🤔....I listen to it every night, like a soulful lullaby. That's this song: Rock & Soul. Thank you ✌

      I must disagree with your comment only because, it seems you may be conflating the music industry with real musicians and those anointed with a calling to sh as re their musical gifts. This man had God given talent but developed his style in the Black American church reminiscent of James Brown, who Michael Jackson, and Price who were greatly influenced by in their styles. These artists laying their souls bare on the stage is from our West African approach to art the European picks apart and most cannot understand is to be felt and aspirational. It is meant to be an expression of our higher selves, but has been bastardized through greed and capitalism. Europe once ruled by Africans long ago, and at one time truly admired the and studied the culture to implement in theirs. There is still some of that admiration for the great African oratory tradition and expression in our arts. As Britain is still holding Benin’s art hostage.

Even though Terence Trent D’Arby is originally American, he was always marketed as a British ( International crossover ) artist ever since his debut album in the 80s, which included Wishing Well. Hi. I enjoyed your reaction to Terrence Trent D'arby. He has changed his name to Sananda Maitreya, he does it all. He not only sings & dances, he's a musician who plays many instruments. Look at his full concert which is this same concert he sings the song that you reacted to. You'll see him playing & singing. I think you're going to love the full concert. Also check out Children of the Revolution with Terrence Trent D'arby & Andrew Roachford. That video is before he changed his name & this artist does not play that lip synching & auto tune crap. He gives great performances. Better than these artists today. ☺ To get that full concert type Terrence Trent D'arby live in London. Also he has a fun music video you should check out. You have to type Sananda Maitreya that's his new name. The song is called Bella Faccina, I think he's singing in Italian in this video as well as in English.

I only discovered it a few days ago, in January 2023, and even though it is generally not the genre of music I prefer to listen to, I was absolutely so blown away by this performance that it made me a brand-new fan -- of Sananda Maitreya, and not just of Terence Trent D'Arby. And I have to say that when I see him perform this song, I think about Prince and other great rockers. I don't think about Michael.

    After his successful debut he released an experimental, sort of psychedelic soul album (Neither Fish Nor Flesh) that alienated many of his fans (although I really liked it). He continued putting out great music throughout the 90s. His Symphony or Damn and Vibrator (which contains this song) albums are both excellent.
    He lives in Italy now and has changed his name to Sananda Metreya and continues to record and perform.

    Thanks for your reaction from one of America's stellar vocalist. S o maybe you don't know. Back in 1987 he came out with the The Hardline According to Terence Trent D'arby in the UK. then it hit in America. That album featured the hit single Wishing Well plus others. The media tried to compared him and Michael and Prince. Terence comes from the Church his Moms was a Gospel singer. It's important to understand that he did have the machine behind him. His second album was considered a flop. But, this album is his 4th album where this song you reacted too was on it. He changed his name and now lives in Italy. So as an American you can live somewhere else in the world. One of the best vocalist in the world. He was inspired by Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. That's the feel you hear.

    His influence is not Micheal his influence with Stevie Wonder and James Brown. That’s why you hear him making those sounds that’s what James Brown used to do. Michael Jackson got that from James Brown.

    He doesn't take after MJ, James Brown was doing the "Hah!" 50-60 years ago! And MJ didn't invent that falsetto either. Prince does it and he definitely didn't get it from MJ. I didn't get any MJ vibes from Terrence in the 80s and still don't.

    He was and still is an international recording star. I asked, for one of his songs on Spotify, "Sign your Name" and it corrected his old name, with his new one. I am getting familiar with some of his latest music as well. He still sounds so soulful and has that same power in his voice. Age hasn't changed the awesome music this man has made and will continue. Just getting use to saying Sananda Matreiya instead of Terence Trent Darby . Either way I am still a fan.
