America is, in my opinion, one of the greatest bands to come out of the 70's. Their songs Ventura Highway and Tin Man are just as amazing as this one. Love ya'll!
Wow, I'll be 50 next month and never realised this was so old. I have always loved this song and their other music cause it's played often on my fav radio station.
Those songs released when you're teen really make you nostalgic for the good old days. I was all of 13 in 72. Yhis is still one of my all time favorites. As are America themselves.
It’s about time AMERICA got it’s time on the channel! ❤️…their harmonies are so good…definitely check out “Ventura Highway” the intro guitars are 👌🏼This is great road trip music, folk-rock at its finest.
pattyestrada6 That intro guitar riff on Ventura Highway is my ringtone! You oughta see peoples' faces from 'our' generation when my phone blows up in public...priceless.
I saw them in concert! Excellent acoustical band and great harmonies. Another great song “Sister Golden Hair” “Ventura Highway” “Tin Man” “You Can Do Magic”!! Forgot “Lonely People”
True - But how can you not recommend LONELY PEOPLE - Easily the best song they ever put out, and written in response to THE BEATLES (Eleanor Rigby) - even though it sounds very different.
These were three Air Force Brats whose parents were stationed in England when they met. They moved into the big time. America was one of the groups that were relaxing rock in the 70s. Lots of good stuff from them.
I didn’t know they were AF brats in England. So was I, from 89-91. My dad was at Greenham Common. We lived way out in the boonies, though, near Silbury Hill and Avebury.
I think I heard an interview with America where they called themselves " Air Force Brats " Sounded like very cool, laid-back guys. Their debut album is one of the best.
@@SusanJohnston Yeah, I was an Army brat and am an Army Veteran. I've heard people say it's a bad term and we shouldn't call military kids that. I just laugh and say it's a badge of honor. We military brats saw the world. And, IMHO, are better for it.
Song was life transforming for me. As a kid when this came out, had a tough hopeless childhood. But this song gave me hope that I could escape to a desert and leave everything bad behind cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain. Which I did. As soon as I could. This is what I mean about desert rock. The bongos tapping out hoofbeats, the mandolin pushing a breeze and tumbling dried plants along, their work always SOUNDS like a place. 👍
Jay and Amber, thanks for getting into America! For those of us who lived our adolescence and college years in the 1970s, America was one of the wonderful mainstays of our lives. I would always include a set by America in my college radio morning show. Thanks for appreciating such a wide genre of music on your channel!

"Sorry boy but I've been hit by purple rain." is a lyric from the song titled "Ventura Highway" by America. I have a theory that the artist Prince must have listened to that song and that lyric stuck and made a connection to him. This is the first reference I know of that put these two words together. America is a great group to do more reactions on.

I got into this song because of GT San Andreas. I don't even like this genre of music anyways. Ha, loved the way described it Amber, "super, gentle floaty headspace" type of sound from the 70's. I always loved this song thanks for playing it! You guys are great!
The last time I saw them in concert they joked, “we’re that band that people see us play and say, ‘Oh, yeah, I forgot about that song… I forgot they sang that song’ that’s us.” Your gonna love these guys. I love Ventura Highway and Daisy Jane.

Such a classic 70’s band. We were so fortunate in the 70’s. Just absolute great music came from all genders. Check out these from America: Sister Golden Hair, Ventura Highway, Tin Man, and I Need You. Before auto tuning, such great writing, and music. Such true talent , raw talent.
Please check out Little River Band if you haven't already. "Lady" is such a great song. Their catalog is huge!! 🎶🎶🎶 America is such an underrated band. Ventura Highway and Tin Man are my faves.
This music was created not just to make money for the artists. It was intentionally meant to be a healing therapy for the listener. When this album was released, I was in high school. My friends and I were typical teens, with typical human struggles. We all used this type of music to keep us in the groove, so to speak, and heal whatever ached us. We hung out in our rooms and listened to this soulful rock until we could carry on another day. Nobody got so wigged out that they brought a shotgun to school back then. This music has healing qualities. The lyrics are expressions of the artist's soul. Our soul speaks to us in a symbolic language. For example, the word "rain" in the lyrics translates to the word "tears". Another example, the words "no name" refer to the word "soul", same as in the song "Where the Streets Have No Name". Keep listening over and over until you can decode the symbolic meaning of this song. Then you will be at peace with Mother Nature. I wish one of these "reaction channels" would take the time to listen to this music until they receive a healing dose of it. Then they can explain what they experienced to the masses.
Their Producer was George Martin who produced The Beatles' records . Upon meeting the Beatles for the first time George Martin told them "if there is anything you do not like tell me ." And Ringo said, "Well, I for one do not like your tie ."
George Martin did not hook up with America until 1975 ("Sister Golden Hair"). These earlier songs were produced by Ian Samwell with Jeff Dexter (per albums' liner notes).
Somewhere on RUclips, there's a concert of America preforming on the German tv show Musikladen in 1975. No audience, just a group of great musicians jamming at the height of their careers. Wonderful to see the musicianship they displayed, and great music.
You brought me back to 1971 grammar school. It was one of my first songs that I sang along to. I could sing the lala I was 7 years old. I loved singing with my older brothers & sister. Thank you for bringing us back together.
Some supertalent, they Put out some great music.... When I was about 12 or 13? My brother came home from college for Christmas. Gaming America as greatest hits album. I fell in love with them What a great memory.❤
Thank you for reacting to America. They had some great hits in the 70s. If you like this one, you will love Tin Man and Ventura Highway. Great music and outstanding harmonies. Hope you can give us your reactions to more of America.🥰
Thank you for covering this song. My older brother Jim (RIP) was taking me to the Youth center back in 1971. Horse with no name came on the radio. My brother told me to wait and listen to this song, so I did. To this day 51 years later I love this song and the group America.
Amber and Jay, you’ll never know just how much joy I get from watching your reactions to the music that I love. If I had to choose one America song to listen to forever, it would be this one! It’s SO cool to see you zone out to this so quickly in. I don’t know your process for how you choose songs from so many thousands of suggestions, but you hit great ones every single time!!!!♥️
Ventura Highway takes me back to the 70s, when my husband and I drove along the California coast while this song was playing. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Love America, you have to hear I Need You, my favorite by them, and as everyone has mentioned, Lonely People, Ventura Highway, Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair. They were right up there with the Eagles in my book.
LOVE YOU GUYS your the best my first concert was america i was 18 this song had just came out was a great concert was outside blossom music center 1973 then saw them front row there class act they sound just like the the song simon and garfunkel was the band that there songs were real life to me.when comes to music iam very fortunate to grow up in the 60s 70s
America, great band. Next: "Sandman", "Dont' Cross The River", "California Revisited", "Donkey Jaw", "Lonely People", "I Need You", "Ventura Highway"... to name a few. Great acoustic band.
Sandman doesn't get mentioned NEARLY enough when people talk about America's best tracks. When I was a teen, my mates and I used to do a doom metal cover of it - and when I say that I mean it was literally exactly the same but with the distortion ramped up. That was all it needed.
I love this song! Haven't heard it since I was a kid. I really enjoy the wide range of music you play and it brings a lot of memories of songs I enjoyed on AM radio back in the 70's. Stations back then would play a wide range of music on the same station. They played country and switch up to the Beatles...which is exactly what you do. Thank you for spreading a little joy during these dark times!
thank you very much guys finally I've been asking for America since you guys first started America it's one of the most remarkable iconic legendary group from the 70S decade every song were a huge hit and they carry on till the 80S with You Can Do Magic but back in the 70S with songs like Ventura Highway , Sister Golden Hair , I Need You , Sandman amount many others they were just like Bread totally Soft Rock and yes they were Southern Rock
Some other great songs from America: "Lonely People", "Sister Golden Hair", "Ventura Highway" and "Tin Man". If you're familiar with The Wizard of Oz, you'll appreciate the Tin Man reference.
I can't stop looking at that wall behind you. LoL! You guys have great taste. Also great song and reaction. This has been on my playlist for ages, and get blasted regularly. 👍😁👍
It was the band's first and most successful single, released in late 1971 in Europe and early 1972 in the United States, and topped the charts in Canada, Finland, and the United States. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
So many good ones "Ventura Highway" "Tin Man " " Lonely People" "I Need You " ? Another great band Michael Martin Murphey & the Rio Grande Band - "Wildfire"
Not only great musicians and singers with amazing harmonies, but brilliant lyricists who possessed the rare art of weaving a story poetically that you can vividly visualize what they are painting.
Thank you for reacting to this,I'm 54,and haven't heard this song for 40 years, you have brought soo many happy memories back,I've been going through some of your reactions and MAN,you enjoy British rock from the 60/70 and 80's,so many amazing memories for me. Thank you from the bottom of my ❤ ,an Englishman from the North West of England
Songs like Horse with no name, Roundabout.... that era in general. All are bang on. My favourites of all time came out of this. We used to do contests to them. Sing along turn the volume off, keep singing.... a minute later are you still in time and in key? And you were happy to try because the songs just fill your soul.
They are fantastic live as well. I saw them in college. First time I heard this song on the AM radio (I was in HS) back then, I thought it was Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young but soon learned of this new great band. They have so many great hits. They are sort of in the Eagles genre. As you said, great acoustics & harmonies
I was a toddler when America was releasing their songs. Always remembered their music. ' Sister Golden Hair ', ' Ventura Highway ', ' Tin Man's, and ' Daisy Jane '.
Guitars, harmonies, and songs you'll be singing along with halfway through your first listen. Pick any song that people are suggesting. They're all worthwhile.
I have seen America live twice. First time I was 18. Second time I was 62, and they were even better!! My kids grew up listening to them, and they are favorites with them too! My daughter surprised me with tickets to see them for my birthday. We had the most amazing night together listening & seeing them together! Whole family loves America!! Please listen to them more, you’ll just love it all! ♥️The old white woman
America is absolute fire burning absolutely! 🔥 Great harmonies, mellow vibes. They just take you away. So good. You should do “Ventura Highway.” That song contains the first reference to “purple rain” in any song and Prince said he got inspiration from America’s song. How could he not? I mean it talks about alligator lizards in the air and purple rain. Groovy stuff no doubt.
My dad loves these guys, and this is his favorite of theirs. I took him to see America in concert -- his first big rock concert -- and we had a great time. After a few songs he asked me why the crowd went crazy every time the band started a new song. I told him it was because they loved that song. "That's silly," he said. You should have seen him lose his mind when they started playing this song. He was also nervous about soneone offering him some pot. I told him to just say no thank you. "They're not gonna try to make me smoke it?" "No, Dad, they're just being friendly." Well, the pot came down the row and when the guy next to Dad offered it to him, Dad got all formal like and said, "Uh, no. Thank you. I don't, uh, thank you." Dude said, "Cool," and took another toke. "Did you see that, Scotty? He didn't even care!" You've been given some good suggestions for other America songs to hit next; I'll give you some more. I Need You and Sandman are both from the same album as Horse (their first album). Ventura Highway and Don't Cross the River are from their second, Homecoming. Their third album, Hat Trick, has no hits, but it's my favorite album of theirs. Try The Rainbow Song, Molton Love or Green Monkey. Album four, Holiday, has Tin Man. If you listen to that one, please include the short instrumental intro piece, Miniature; almost everyone leaves that off. Hearts, their fifth has Sister Golden Hair, Woman Tonight, and Daisy Jane. Holiday has Amber Cascades and Watership Down (a fantastic book!) Love you guys!
This was the first album I ever heard as a child. I had a chance to tell this to Gerry Buckley & Dewey Bunnell when I met them after an America concert in Lowell, MA in 2005.
So Glad Y'all Finally found The Group America! Some Other Great Songs From them that continue to show their Iconic Smooth Harmonies are Tin Man, Sister Golden Hair, and Ventura Highway.
I just loved America back in the day! Such awesome tunes. I was so lucky to grow up in the 60's and 70's! Amazing time to be young. 👍💯✌🇨🇦🔥
Please check out Little River Band if you haven't already. "Lady" is such a great song. Their catalog is huge!! 🎶🎶🎶 America is such an underrated band. Ventura Highway and Tin Man are my faves.
Btw a friend of mine used to think the lyrics were "Horse With No Mane" 🤦♂️🐴💇♀️🤣
I was going to comment they already had reacted to LRB. They have not, so I agree. They need to dive into the LRB catalogue.
❤🕊💙✌❤🕊💙✌
A Wonderous Favorite!!!!!
Ventura Highway, great song.
LRB - Great band.
Yes, do Little River Band. My favorites are "Night Owl" and "Take It Easy On Me".
💯
This was such a big hit back in the day!
Their Producer was George Martin who produced The Beatles' records . Upon meeting the Beatles for the first time George Martin told them "if there is anything you do not like tell me ." And Ringo said, "Well, I for one do not like your tie ."
Much respect has to paid to the fifth Beatle and the forth member of America, Sir George Martin. Love your shirt Amber.
Always Empathy, Never Apathy.
George Martin did not hook up with America until 1975 ("Sister Golden Hair"). These earlier songs were produced by Ian Samwell with Jeff Dexter (per albums' liner notes).
@@SpuzzyLargo I wonder if you are aware of my cousin Betty Thatcher, she wrote the poem which became the lyric for this song.
I haven't heard this song for years and I still know every word! Thank you!
Somewhere on RUclips, there's a concert of America preforming on the German tv show Musikladen in 1975. No audience, just a group of great musicians jamming at the height of their careers. Wonderful to see the musicianship they displayed, and great music.
I saw them live many times in the 80's & 90's. Sounded just like they did on the album. Same goes with Three Dog Night.
You brought me back to 1971 grammar school. It was one of my first songs that I sang along to. I could sing the lala I was 7 years old. I loved singing with my older brothers & sister. Thank you for bringing us back together.
I have always loved this song. America is just awesome
Fantastic band. Saw them live at Angel Stadium way back in 1976. Tremendous performance as a live group.
Saw them early 2000's open for Kansas. They rocked hard in concert.
Amber and Jay, you’ll never know just how much joy I get from watching your reactions to the music that I love. If I had to choose one America song to listen to forever, it would be this one! It’s SO cool to see you zone out to this so quickly in. I don’t know your process for how you choose songs from so many thousands of suggestions, but you hit great ones every single time!!!!♥️
Such a good time in my life! You all make me go back and relive my musical history
Thank you for loving this song. There are millions of people who absolutely DESPISE it, and it's one of my favorite songs if all time!
Guys you gotta check out their song "Sister Golden Hair"
Ventura Highway takes me back to the 70s, when my husband and I drove along the California coast while this song was playing. One of my favorite songs of all time.
MANY nights back in high school days listening to America. Awesome band.
Thank you guys I love America.
My Daddy surprised me, in 1973, by buying me this album! He hit a homerun!
Awesome!!!!! The Best of TIMES to Be Raised as a Kid in the 1970s!!!!!
I was 23 in73 I discovered America on my dad's cassette in his car sometime? maybe before 73
Love you two! Your openness to new music is inspiring! America has some great songs.
America, great band. Next: "Sandman", "Dont' Cross The River", "California Revisited", "Donkey Jaw", "Lonely People", "I Need You", "Ventura Highway"... to name a few. Great acoustic band.
"You Can Do Magic"
Daisy Jane...
Sandman doesn't get mentioned NEARLY enough when people talk about America's best tracks. When I was a teen, my mates and I used to do a doom metal cover of it - and when I say that I mean it was literally exactly the same but with the distortion ramped up. That was all it needed.
Glad to see someone else who appreciates "Donkey Jaw." One of my favorites after "Horse."
What a Classic, you guys are amazing
thank you very much guys finally I've been asking for America since you guys first started America it's one of the most remarkable iconic legendary group from the 70S decade every song were a huge hit and they carry on till the 80S with You Can Do Magic but back in the 70S with songs like Ventura Highway , Sister Golden Hair , I Need You , Sandman amount many others they were just like Bread totally Soft Rock and yes they were Southern Rock
Some other great songs from America: "Lonely People", "Sister Golden Hair", "Ventura Highway" and "Tin Man". If you're familiar with The Wizard of Oz, you'll appreciate the Tin Man reference.
Yes!
Ventura Highway makes my heart ache, probably because my youth has gone and only my death is in front of me.
"Don't Cross the River" and "Daisy Jane" are mentionable also.
I can't stop looking at that wall behind you. LoL! You guys have great taste. Also great song and reaction. This has been on my playlist for ages, and get blasted regularly. 👍😁👍
Love this!
Yes! I hope they react to Wildfire. Requested it a few times. I know they will love it.
This is one of my favorite story telling songs! It is just so great how they put it together and tell you the story the way that they do.
Not only great musicians and singers with amazing harmonies, but brilliant lyricists who possessed the rare art of weaving a story poetically that you can vividly visualize what they are painting.
J/Amber, their "Sister Golden Hair", "Ventura Highway" and "You Can Do Magic" are next for you!!!
Oh I love America my favorites are - Tin Man , You Can Do Magic, Ventura Highway , Sister Golden Hair.
I love you Jay and Amber thank you this also is one of my all-time favorite songs may your path always rise up to greet you!
"Sister Golden Hair" is an outstanding track from America.
America Are Legendary Music Icons With A HUGE Catalog Of Classic Hits That Are Well Worth Your Time Exploring.
Lots more great America songs out there.... you guys rock! Thanks for the memories.
This song is wonderful! Another song in the same genre is Southern Cross by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. Their harmonies are fantastic!
One of my all-time favorite songs FOR LIFE👍
horse with no name is one of the best songs ever made.
My absolute favorite band! The harmony!
I love " alligator lizards in the air" !!!
Yes!! America is great! Thank you for this reaction! 😁👋💜
He didn't even care!"
You've been given some good suggestions for other America songs to hit next; I'll give you some more.
Holiday has Amber Cascades and Watership Down (a fantastic book!)
Love you guys!
Ventura Highway can be found with them Performing Live. They All Play Guitar and Join in the Vocals. As they came into the 1980's they also had a Massive Hit with a Song called: You Can Do Magic.
Got to see these guys in concert in high school. Very good live. Used to sing this 'A Horse With No Mane' when I was a kid.
