    This happened on my civic one time, cut the belt off and limped it home. Unfortunately most car's don't put the water pump on the timing belt\chain so it takes ages to get anywhere without the belt on. On vehicles where the pump is on the timing chain\belt you can drive till your battery runs flat

    Dude, I had an 89 Chevy K1500 305 5 speed. One day I was heading down the highway and it seemed like I lost a ton of power and my air got warm. I pulled over and saw that the AC compressor and clutch was locked up but the belt was still going around it. Called my buddy with a tow truck and told him to be prepared to tow me home because I was going to try to make it the next 20 miles like that; but shockingly the belt didn't snap and I made it home lol

      I had purchased a truck that would not start and could not turn the engine over by hand. I investigated and took off the serpentine belt and tried to turn the idler pulley's and they all turned. then I tried to turn the A/C pulley and it was seized up. was able to turn the engine by hand once the serpentine belt was removed. when I seen this video I laughed because it is an unusual issue.

    Did you call the imperial measurement Garbage?? That measurement is responsible for everything you own including your life including everything in the United States that’s what you call Garbage??

    • @briansmobile1
      @briansmobile1  5 лет назад

      I'm saying "that's right" to what you say about the role of the imperial system, but were it not used and spread as it were by the two imperial nation giants of the last two centuries it would have become extinct decades ago. There's an obvious reason why it's still used in the US and UK- in the words of Cartman of South Park, "I do what I want!" That doesn't make it ideal. The adequate level of response is "you suck!", or "garbage" when the argument is against familiarity and ego- not reason. Reasoning that the imperial system had no merit in history is indefensible. You're absolutely right. Saying it's the best system available today is also indefensible.

    • @GCraigmile

      briansmobile1,, yes people hate change most of the time change is a mistake and you go back to the original.. or best practice it’s funny you mention candles because once the power is out for a long period of time everybody goes back to using the candles because it works.. the imperial measurement is far more precise than any metric system and is used in every machine shop all over the world!! The metric system is very easy to use and very easy to understand designed for less complex thoughts and individuals to promote such a generic form of measurement is a mistake that NASA has paid for many many many time and cost lives and a Un-told amount of money.. Change can be good but changing something that works precisely is a mistake.. you will see in the next 20 years the mistake that you are pushing and just maybe maybe you will learn from it?.. NASA didn’t. 🤔🤔🤔🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 I will be no party to your own American way of thinking I will unsubscribe from your channel and will promote others to do so. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    • @briansmobile1
      @briansmobile1  5 лет назад +1

      @@GCraigmile If your nose offends your face- cut it off. However, if you think the metric system is less precise, consult any scientist or science teacher you have access to or review what you know about the most accurate scientific measuring devices currently available and get back to me with what you find. I'm not saying machine shops are wrong to keep using equipment their heavily invested and trained in- but I am saying the metric system is every bit as precise and far easier to train in & use without user error. If you wish someone else ill will or less success for disagreeing with you, that only costs you happiness and credibility not them. It also reveals the same ego motive I was talking about. That behavior doesn't serve you or your success. It only serves as a stumbling block when your path differs from a better one. The NASA example cited above is used the world over as an example of folly of the US NOT using the metric system. The same story can be viewed from 2 sides, most everyone else including those at NASA use those same examples to push for using the metric system. However, companies they work with don't use it. The view described above is the 1st I've heard that took the side of the imperial system being the best answer or solution. Not sure what "🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸" means, but thank you in advance for teaching me.

      For the record- I respect you, your motives, your literacy, and experience. I do wish you all the best in success and life whether you subscribe to this channel or not and whether you seek to undermine this channel or not. I trust what I said based on years of testing it. It's my experience in having my butt kicked in life from ego-centric stumblings and my compassion for others doing the same and suffering the same as I have that I take the time to respond to comments like this. I don't expect you to agree or adopt what I'm saying simply because I said it, but the same utilitarian concept loving part of me that moves me to help people that can't help me back- wants to see the world become a better place with less of the suffering that humbled me to change my methods to begin with. I believe that what you put out comes back to you. The extensive blessings I've experience from making these RUclips videos started by testing the concepts and principles I'm giving you for free, by making videos that helped others for free beginning back in January of 2008 before Google bought RUclips. how about a 06 impreza that overheats "sometimes". coolant will fill up the overflow tank sometimes halfway or other times just straight up overfills it. just had the timing and water pump done not 25k miles ago, thermostat less then a month. only other thing i can think it'd be is the A/C when it died about 2 months ago. I could take it to a shop but nobody touches my car except me, its a trust issue that i can't help.

    5:15 how much oil to you put it?

    • @briansmobile1
      @briansmobile1  5 лет назад +1

      I think I said 2 oz. That's reasonable given the whole system takes around 8 oz. The balance is roughly 4 oz oil per .3 kgs refrigerant. The condenser and evaporator hold about 5oz together and there should be about an ounce in the lines. This is a guessing game, but the junk yard compressor was drained by inverting it before we got it. It may have needed between 1- 3 oz depending on evaporation and spilling. The old compressor drained about 1.7 oz. so we went with 2 total. Roughly 0.6 in the suction side of the compressor to protect it during charging and 1.4 in the discharge line to make the remainder fit into the system without making a mess.

    Couldn't you just have replaced the AC compressor rotor and clutch assembly without actually physically changing the entire compressor out?

    • @Cautionary_Tale_Harris
      @Cautionary_Tale_Harris 5 лет назад

      In my experience the pulley and clutch are pressed onto the compressor shaft and would be difficult to pull off without the whole compressor removed anyway.
      And as I recall, it's also difficult to even find just a clutch assembly. They probably got this used compressor for around $100.

    • @jsciarri
      @jsciarri 5 лет назад

      The pulley/rotor and clutch come right off the front of the compressor with a simple gear puller without needing to evacuate the system or unbolting the compressor. It's an easy job and costs much less than replacing the entire compressor.

    • @briansmobile1
      @briansmobile1  5 лет назад +2

      In this case replacing the compressor was cheaper and faster by no less than $75 three days or more if the compressor was still good. No one local had just the clutch except in California and the compressor was also bad anyway.

      We buy them with the rust pre-applied.

    • @briansmobile1

      It's the climate. Heat from climate and engine temperatures cause the battery to off gas . The gasses are caustic and corrode the terminals. We also use chemical means to combat ice on the roads. Those chemicals rust everything too.
