Oh my! I have been trying to fill mine up for an hour and getting a tiny bit of ink in the converter! I nearly gave up until I found this video! Thank you!! 3:17
Thanks for this informative video. I have been struggling with the converter for some time but, with your very clear explanations, I now finally understand how its filling system works.
I just use cartridges with my Vanishing Point. Since I prefer black or blue-black ink in it anyway, I've never seen the point of struggling with the Con-40!
@@curatedavalon I have also refilled my cartridges with a syringe and bottled ink. More ink capacity and less mess! I usually just use a syringe with my converter too- for same reasons.
@@Artfullyjenn I wish that filling the CON-40 all the way would work with syringe filling. That would be amazing. I tried it once to see what would happen, and ink shot everywhere! It was pretty funny.
The first thing I did when I got my Pilot was to throw the converter in the trash; it's a piece of junk. Refilling cartridges with a syringe is the best way to get a complete fill.
I am unfamiliar with the cartridge sizes from Pilot as I haven't used them. I didn't even know they had a long and short! I just know the Nimiki cartridges are compatible. The Nimiki cartridges hold about 0.90ml and the CON-40 converter holds about 0.60ml.
@@curatedavalon I think those were the ones I was looking at for an E-95S. You could always use up one of those and take a syringe and refill it and put it back in the VP too haha I think Doug from Inkquiring Minds does that with his E-95S instead of using the Con-40 so he can still put in whatever ink his heart desires. Also holds more ink!!
I should order some cartridges and see if I like refilling them. I'm so used to the converter now it doesn't bother me. Using the "Texas Black Bat" ink for whatever reason, involves that extra step, but any other ink I've used the process goes quickly.
@@curatedavalon The filling would be okay if the cartridge has a larger ink capacity. The way I write , I doubt I have to fill 2 to 3 times a day. The same reason I abandoned the sailor converter and use cartridges only. Once empty, I fill with a syringe. 😁

I'm so glad! Yay!

This was so helpful. I'm new to fountain pens and would never have figured this out on my own. Thank you!
I'm so glad! Welcome to the fountain pen world!
Very helpful, had the same problem, only with this pen
Thank you for the tips. I definitely need to practice this in order to get a good fill in my VP. 😊

The convenience of cartridges really can't be beat! Just pop it in and you're back to writing!

You're welcome!
Does the Capless Fermo present the same issues as the VP? Have you tried the Fermo? Do you like it? Thanks for the good detail in your videos.
I haven't tried the Fermo. I'll have to put it on my list!
I’d just use a syringe! It’s a lot cleaner and faster. I fill all my converters that way!
I can't get a full fill with the CON-40 that way, but it is less mess!

For whatever reason, I've actually grown fond of this little converter. I can see where refilling a cartridge would be easier.
These can take the Pilot long cartridges as well correct?

Too much of work. Ha ha 😆
I would rather use a cartridge and fill with syringe. Less messy and a bit more ink capacity.

@@dashsunil The cartridge is supposed to hold quite a bit more. The converter is around 0.60ml and the cartridge around 0.90ml.
