*Before watching the video in full I'd rank our UCL seasons, based on the tier list, in this order: GOAT = None. AMAZING = 06/07, 07/08, 12/13. SOLID = 01/02, 03/04, MEH = 04/05, 16/17, 17/18. UNDERACHIEVED = 08/09, 13/14, 23/24. WIPE FROM MEMORY = 22/23*
As someone who remembers them, 01/02 and 03/04 were definitely underachievements. We just needed to beat Roseborg away to qualify in 01 and failed, and to beat either Lyon or Anderlecht away in 03 and failed again. We beat much better teams in the UEFA Cup in that era and should have qualified from both groups.
Very harsh on the 2017/18 season, yes we got embarrassing twice by a PSG side with Neymar and Cavani but the performances against Bayern were quite good. Home game we competed very well and were unlucky to not pick up something, away wasn’t embarrassing either and was one of the better away performances against Europe’s elite ( which is saying something about our record in the UCL). Anderlecht away was brilliant albeit I think they were manager less and very poor all the same. Home game meant nothing as we were already through so I wouldn’t read too much into that. Perhaps I’m nostalgic looking back at that season along with the absolute banger of a kit we had, but I’d probably have it in Meh.
Maybe I am biased cause I was at the Anderlecht game, but we were unreal, dominated the game and fully deserved it. Can't put it in wipe my memory or else I wouldn't remember a good away champions league game.
*Having now watched the video, I have to highlight Ryan's contradiction. He puts the 13/14 season where we finished bottom in group of death with 3 points & -11 GD in lowest tier, yet puts the 16/17 season where we also finished bottom in group of death with 3 points & -11 GD (with a superior Celtic side to 13/14 one) TWO TIERS ABOVE IT. Doesn't make sense*
@@Ryan118Officialrose tinted glasses, treble and invincible. That season was one of the best of my life, even the champion league i enjoyed every moment (even tho we got pumped)
The Champions League has bothered me big time for years, where the actual champions of each league don't automatically qualify, yet a 4th place team walks in! Take it back to the old style European Cup..just champions,no leagues, just straight knockout
@@hazzogaming5512 The Champions League is about the biggest and best clubs in Europe playing to find the champions of Europe. Winning their domestic title has got bugger all to do with it. The winners of small leagues aren't bigger or better than clubs in other countries who finish 2nd and 3rd. Young Boys won the Swiss title whereas Barcelona finished 2nd in La Liga. No one wants to see Young Boys but the football world wants to see Barca in the CL because they're far bigger and far better. You Celtic boys just want to eliminate as many big clubs so you might get a lucky win again via a soft route to the final.
The best Champions League campaign of this century was undoubtedly 2006/07, as we were eliminated in the round of 16 in extra time against Milan, the worst was undoubtedly 2022/23, you can't make 4 points less and 9 goals worse than a Shakhtar that had just been dismantled, where it was only Mudryk. We only made 2 miserable points...
Taking the eventual European Champions all the way to the second half of extra time in Milan before a moment of sheer magic by the legend Kaka is still the best campaign we’ve had in the CL. However, getting 10 points while beating Barcelona and Messi on our 125th anniversary in the process is a very close second.
It’s crazy that we beat Barca 2-1. And going 2-0 up aswell. Obviously messi scored. Beating benfica like 3 or 4 times. Beating Man Utd 1-0 in 2006, Nakamura free kick. Worst campaign is definitely 08/09
17/18 season very harsh considering we went through to the Europa league. A lot better than we’ve done in recent years. Beating Anderlecht away 3-0 also our biggest away win in the group stages of the CL
That extra time loss to AC Milan hurt - especially when they were originally papped out of the competition with the cheating charges but on appeal got themselves back in
My old time favourite game was wen we were 4 0 down to partizan Belgrade and went through 5 4 on agg but I can't remember if it was the champions league what a night that was

Anderlecht played most of that game with 10 men too, major underachievement

I wound up about 10 rows up celebrating the Naka FK, and about 20 back when Boruc saved that last minute Saha penalty 😂😂
