rikaze I would confirm that this way of making Pho and eating Pho is from the south of Vietnam , the northern way they are the same but they don’t put meatball, and they don’t dipped the meat in the sauce(the north ppl they tend to don’t like sweet of the hosin sauce, so for them hosin sauce be like things destroyed the flavor ) instead we put a little bit of like pepper and siracha in and we take a chinese donut to dipped in

@@cristiana9529 The beef is cut thinly so when the hot broth is poured over and you begin to mix it up the beef cooks itself. I tried Pho for the 1st time 10 years ago and I would have to say I would gladly eat Pho morning, noon and night. Vietnamese cuisine is so good. Really clean flavours. Very aromatically distinguished. Top 3 cuisines by countries in the world.
They seem like they have a good father son relationship, idk maybe its just the background music
No, it's not the background music. They have a good relationship.
It's the response the son has in conversation. Like, when the dad says to show them "dip the stuff!!" The son laughs and gladly obliges rather than look annoyed.
I’ve watched this video like twelve times.
Note: Never let anyone pronounce it, “foe.” You have to stand up for the soup. You have to fight back.
There is a place in my hometown called Pho King and i never got the joke since i mispronounced "pho" 🤣

I loved this! It's not pretentious, it's not corny, it's just an honest conversation, and some damn good food!
“I know cuz I cooked it.”
I love the dad and his nuggets of wisdom, especially relating to MSG.
My technique is to fill the spoon with a bit of noodles and meat and other goodies, then dip it in to the soup to get some broth as well. What you end up with is a that wonderful broth flavor and a great bite that isn’t too dry. Also, if you like the sauces you can just dip your chopsticks in them before you go to retrieve noodles from your soup. I LOVE PHO
I adore this because its such a nice father and son dynamic. They both are funny and you can tell they have so much love for one another.
I been eating pho like that because I hate ruining the original soup.
Pho is my favourite food of all time. I had a vietnamese uncle who introduced me to this from the time I was a baby... It's always been my favourite, and I believe it always will! It's literally perfect. I could eat it every single day.
And how it taste ? It’s super sweet super salty ? Taste like cinammon tea with cloves star anis ?

From what to look for when you taste the broth to proper sauce etiquette, you'll quickly learn everything you need to know from these pho experts.
Munchies This way of eating Pho is from Saigon or the south of VietNam. Pho is originated in Nam Dinh and Hanoi made it famous. so talk about proper way of Having Pho.... I think you got it wrong.
Hung Pham Manh i like this dish so im interested by what you say hehe, here in canada i think most vietnamese are coming from the south so the pho from the video looks like what we are served here, then i went in hanoi and they served me pho with meat noodles onions no herbs or bean sprouts or lemon, the only think to add was spicy pepper if you want otherwise you would eat it straight like it was served, also the broth was more salty it was good. Do you think that one i had in hanoi was the proper way like you say? but personally i like both ways.
bizou154 sounds like you had it right. Bean sprouts and other vegetables will make the broth taste different. adding only lime and chilly and some times peppers enhance the beef flavor. i have nothing against the "south Pho" but the hoisin and the sweetness is not my taste. Having eaten Pho every day when i was in Hanoi (ten years at least) this bow in the video does not excite me to go for it. I respect all different take on food but saying it's "proper" or "original" really isnt right. the title should say " A good way to have Pho".
Hung Pham Manh The title says it's "how to eat Pho", And after consulting with some of my Viet friends, there is no "original" Pho, there are so many different varieties of Pho, not one can be traditional. Is this a plausible statement?
.
This was a throw back for me. I lived in this place when I lived in Philly. The best Pho I have ever tasted. The whole video I was thinking to myself that this place looks really familiar then I look at the description and tada I was right.

The best pho is when you do it yourself with the best ingredients/meat/bones you can get and do it at home with a maximum flavor in the broth (no restaurants will ever do that, cuz too expensive), I mean make the broth so rich that the whole house smells like you're baking a cake....

TheGiantBunnysaid in vietnam, we have accents like the french do, and there's a questin mark above the O in pho which forces you to say the word as if you're asking a question. so there's "what" and then there's "what?" you automatically say the what with question mark in a different way, same goes for pho, you say it like a question so "pho?".
dubz That's interesting, I never knew that! Will be sure to add the question mark to my speech next time I say it.

The largest Vietnamese population outside Viet Nam is in Texas. After I retired from the army, I lived in Texas for a number of years. On arrival there, I immediately discovered Pho. I have now been eating Pho for over 25-years, and eating it continuously. I have developed habits. I love the cilantro and green onions, the basil is secondary for me, but I do use it. I also add fish sauce and Sriracha to the soup, not on the side. But, I think the most important thing is to simply get the stuff into your tummy! Sushi and Pho are my two favorite soul foods. I am a middle age white male. Go figure.
A taste for good food is intrinsically human nature. As a side note, here are the top 8 cities in the USA with the largest Viet population: 1. San Jose, CA 2. Garden Grove, CA 3. Houston, Texas 4. San Diego, CA 5. Westminster, CA 6. Santa Ana, CA 7. Los Angeles, CA 8. Anaheim, CA
It's nice to hear a genuine appreciation of food, and even though I'm not patriotic or proud per se of my country's cuisine in any way, it just goes to show that food is such a great medium for understanding other human beings, from one culture to another.
Pho is really fucking good. Just make sure you're really hungry when you go out to eat it because it's very filling.

Pho is the shit.
***** I don't think he was referring to the contents of pho, but rather how it's an essential Vietnamese food, similar to how chicken soup is an essential American food. Also, pho comes in chicken broth as well.
***** i highly doubt he implied that.
Brian Ingram Dude go get it, Pho is the best.
Thank you, I love so many styles of foods and have grown up on some very foreign foods but Vietnamese is fairly new to me and feels like such a twist on Mexican style that I love it even more.
Mikey didn’t have very many ways to pronounce pho
Just had pho 4 days in the row and still want some more after watching this. Never get enough pho
I'm 100% American and I've had pho only once because I live in a mostly Italian neighborhood and have to drive a long distance to hit the nearest Vietnamese joint, but the one time I've had pho it was amazing. I was expecting it to be really filling and gluttonous because there's so much meat, but I was surprised to find it's actually very light and healthy, not to mention delicious - much like all Vietnamese dishes I've tried. I'll definitely be making that drive again for that amazing soup, so so worth it.
GUTS I'm Vietnamese so I have it every week :D
DaBeanLord Me too, sometimes it is a daily meal.
You're probably European
I love his dad. Give him a show! We need more Asian TV! 💕
That was very sweet and heartwarming. Thanks for making the video
Welp turns out I’ve been doing it right actually. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist. I agree with dad, I never add hoisin or hot sauce to the broth. Defeats the purpose of the pho entirely as it masks the actual taste of the broth. The main part of the dish in my opinion that’s taken the time to get together
Hate to admit I've never had Pho. I'll be trying it soon. Looks delicious! Thank you both for the lesson in the proper Pho etiquette.

I hate eating this because I keep craving for it. It's so annoying.
god whenever i came home as a kid and seeing my mom cooking this, i would always be so happy
packaged ramen has a lot of cancerogenic shit, the fact that what should be a chicken broth is turned into a powder that lasts forever is scary. So when feeling the crave, go eat at an Asian restaurant,it will be much more satisfying.
One of my dad’s childhood friends owns a pho restaurant in San Diego and every time we visit my dad’s sister in Orange County we visit him and that kitchen is giving me nostalgia
What's the restaurant called? I live in SD and would love recommendations.
though this video has been here for 8 years, I disagree with the title. This shows only one in many ways how the Vietnamese enjoys their Pho.
Pho is the broth gods suckle upon! So delicious!
I'm Asian and I had a lot of noodle soups. The best noodle soups on this planet is definitely made by Vietnamese
Oh thank you ;)
I agree. I'm not Asian though but my favourite kind of food is Asian food and pho has always been my favourite
pho is basically derived from chinese soup noodles, there are so many variants of this in china and alot of them are better
+Ichu Pichu I'm Chinese I know China have many different variants. Viet people make the best soup noodles hands down. You might prefer China soup noodles, but it's no doubt Viet make the best one. I'm not saying China is not good. I had many good China soup noodles, from top chefs around china. I still think Viet soup noodles are better. I tried many famous china version of soup noodles, but i still prefer viet. The best chinese version of soup noodle i had was in Macau inside Grand Lisboa Casino still can't compare to viet noodles. I wouldn't suggest anyone to go china eat anymore because most the restaurants in china use sewage oil and serve you.
Danny Leung
like i said, there are so many soup dishes similar to pho, where do you think pho even came from or the entire vietnamese cuisine came from, from CHINA
pho's broth isn't even that different, the main difference is that they put in uncooked beef into the water for just a few seconds before serving and they garnish it with shit like raw fresh herbs
the actual broth (the important part) the part where it gives the dish taste is basically just chinese bone soup
I gotta pronounce like it’s a combination of *fo* and *huh* so

6400loser sounds like a cultural thing.
@@TheRealLifeNPC Sounds like a common sense thing. I bet you put ketchup on steak you fucking derelict.
It is the best thing about pho the broth!
My family and I automatically put the herbs and sauces in before we take the first bite and that’s the only way to eat phở which I know. Phở in stalls and restaurants is really different from ramen, the broth has flavours and tastes, but they’re very plain and simple (at least to my family’s palates). You ought to have sauces in (just a small amount), or your first taste may be more likely to be underwhelming than not. Actually, the only occasions I know that will have a small saucer on the side are for beef ball noodle soup (whatever the kind of noodle soup).
Before anyone looks at my username and says I know nothing about phở, I am literally a Vietnamese-born Vietnamese whose perception about cuisine is confined to a small district of Saigon where I was born and lived my whole life. The herb-sauce first is probably just a regional or familial trait.
I paid for it and I’ll eat it how I want.
I have been to Saigon and Ben Tre many times and what Vincent says about how to eat Pho is spot on. And now I want to be back in Saigon, damn it.
I've eaten pho since 1987 when my family lived in Sacramento. Love it!
I'm with Dad! If the stock is rich and delicious, I don't want to put any seasoning in it! I always eat some of the soup immediately while it's still hot. Soup is not that common in America, and when this stuff is good, it's heaven!
Pho is pho king good man
😂
lmao
I grew up near Upper Darby! I'll have to try you're pho one day.
So...Today I had to work in an office that's not my usual one, but I remembered there being a really good Thai place nearby. I decided to go there today and literally walked in to literally realize it's not a Thai place anymore, but now they are now a Vietnamese restaurant that only sells Pho. I've never had it before, so I just stayed and gave it a try. I had pretty much exactly what they are eating in the video with all the tendon and tripe. IT WAS AMAZING! I usually really hate soups because they are salty and I just don't like to drink my food, but this really wasn't. It has a very special flavor. Now I am hooked and going again tomorrow for lunch.
this was so cute
Honestly do whatever you like. Sauce on side is traditional but fuck it, eat it the way YOU enjoy it best.
Right on there no rule book on how you eat Pho you eat it how you like it
Lester Green pics or it didn't happen
Yeah till you see a guy eat a burger with chopsticks or something.
Proper etiquette is part of being an adult.
Jenni Anchors the point is stop bullying people into "adult" standards. why would you or i give a shit is some random dude wants to eat a burger with chopsticks?
Lester Green cmon man dont be toxic...
This video is so wholesome, I love it
I love the dad!! Soooo sweet. Makes me want to go eat Pho now. Great advice. Don't put the sriracha and sauce in your broth. Taste it first, take a few spoonfuls to make sure it's good broth, then add your condiments. Wow! It looks so good, I can taste it from here.😋
To tell if the phở is good, smell the broth first, taste it then eat a piece of well-done brisket. If the server tells you they're out of well-done brisket, watch out. That place probably didn't cook the broth the right way but use ready-to-use powder. The broth must be cooked for hours with a lot of bones and brisket first plus the spices. For the rare meat, they should use filet mignon, which must be sliced by hand. If the rare pieces are sliced evenly (same thickness), it was sliced by machine and it wasn't filet mignon. There are two types of phở: The Northern and Southern. For the Northern style, no sprouts, no basil; just lime and thai chili pepper. No sauce of any kind either. For the Southern phở, sure, throw everything in.
Kb Calib I prefer Southern. Thx for explaining.
@@KaneneProductions To some, those sides are enhancement. To others, they're distractions.
vinegar is also popular in the north.
Sadly, if you drink all the broth, it's like 3 days worth of sodium. I start with a spoonful of the broth, then swap between eating combos of meat and noodles with more spoonfuls. When I'm finished, most of the broth is still there.
There is basil in the North along with garlic and chilli vinegar and chinese doughnut (quẩy) which are not present in the South. Southern pho just puts in way too much herbs and sauce and it kind of ruins the beefy taste of Pho, especially beansprout. You're also wrong in that the North does use chilli sauce, often homemade and also chilli oil. They just don't use Hoisin sauce. Northern pho are also very diverse, you have Phở sốt vang which is very popular in Hanoi. The original Pho from the north contains sá sùng - a kind of sea worms that sweetens and adds complexity to the broth.
I need to stop watching food videos, this makes me want some Pho now lol
Pho is my favourite soup/broth, and Banh Mi are my favourite bread rolls. Thanks Vietnam!
Pho, love how it clears the sinuses. I don't know what it is about the broth, but it's amazing too
So basically don’t put sauce in the broth.
And I always put tons of hoisin and saracha in mine 😂
I've had Phở my entire life (straight outta Vietnam here) and I've never knew of the dipping technique lol :)) We usually just put the chilly sauce straight in, a squeeze of lime juice, some vinegar if you fancy, and you're good to go.
Exactly! Absolutely nothing wrong with additional flavors!
"Your entire life" and you did not know about this dipping technique!!! Was you born and raised in Vietnam? If yes, you must saw this somewhere in the country and he is damn right when he said "taste the soup before add the sauces" by that you can taste the real flavor of the broth. Do not mindlessly add those sauces, they are there for helping the broth suit to your taste not destroying it!
Minh Nguyen
Well that just sounds a little silly. Adding a little something extra to an already amazing dish shouldn't be considered destroying the whole thing imo
+Tarmorman Yes, it could be silly for you but for me, I want to taste the umami flavor from the original broth which takes hours to make and each chef has their own recipes, adding those sauces make it difficult to discover that unique flavor. And actually in the north of Vietnam where Pho was created, Sriracha and hoisin are not used.
Minh Nguyen I am Northern Vietnamese. It's likely that the chef is a Southern one, and people from different regions eat Pho differently. Chilli sauce is optional, you don't have to add it if you can't handle the heat.
Also, from your tone I take it that you think I'm that Vietnamese kid whose parents immigrated to US since he was born and only get to visit Vietnam once a year. I AM born, raised and still live here, you know...
I love these two!!!
our founder Rayfil Wong said the pho in Vietnam is just amazing but north and south offer a different broth.
