I'm two years sober and made this exact observation. I would get really blue when I got ill and it's because it would remind me of being hungover, especially with not sleeping properly, waking up late, having no energy. I'm at a point now where I can't imagine going back to it, ever, and I'm involved in a heavy metal scene where drinking is such a big part of the culture... but I'd rather be sober than fit in.

@@werdism thank you, so glad your channel popped up in my feed. It took me 12 years of struggling with my problem, but I got there in the end. All the best from the UK.

I'm two years sober and it's the best thing to happen to me. One day at a time!

I wouldn’t say I was an alcoholic but I definitely wasn’t responsible with drinking when I was younger so I decided I just shouldn’t drink and haven’t for years. I’m 32 weeks pregnant and wake up feeling “hungover” half of the time. Just sick with no energy headaches etc. it’s awful that’s literally what it reminds me of and I don’t even deserve it lol

Same thing happened at my work. Black elderberry powder.... Not that gummy stuff. Add 2 tbs to hot water.... Drink. Only take it within 12 hour when you feel like you know you got something. There's a silver product that's optional. All I can say all my coworkers some lost 2 days of work.... I bounced back the next day it was all in my throat at that point being it was all coming up and just congestion

I will hit 1 year sober from alcohol on Tuesday and let me tell you.. I never thought I could do it.. I was stuck in the cycle and lying to myself.. you just have to decide you won’t drink again and stick to it.. you have to finally come to terms that drinking always ends the same for you.. cut out people and situations that don’t support sobriety.. the book Rational Recovery by Jack Trimpey really helped me quit. You just have to decide that you’re tired of being sick and tired.. the cravings go away I promise.. good luck to you!

Random this was recommended but made me stop and think about my drinking.
I have 1-2 drinks (beer or wine) maybe 5 nights a week. I love it and enjoy how the complement a meal and the end of a productive day. I seldom binge drink but occasionally will get a solid buzz when on lake or at an event with friend's.
I haven't consumed to the point of having a bad hangover since my mid 20s (31 now), and alcohol doesn't thwart anything I do in my life. Although I am well aware of the harm it has done to so many.
My wife and I are pregnant with our first child, on track with finances/debt making well into the 6 figures, and living a productive active lifestyle while nurturing healthy relationships with family and friends.
Do you think there is a problem with enjoying alcohol as a victory or a complement to life if I have it "under control"? Or am I simply dancing with the devil not noticing a cage forming around the dance floor?

I feel that if you are drinking in moderation and you have no negative effects I'd say you are fine.. Doesn't seem like you overindulge in my opinion..

I went to rehab in May. I have been mostly sober since then but it’s hard when you’re young and everyone else is drinking and I’m trying to make friends. I don’t know how to tell them I can’t drink

I just mention I don't mix well with alcohol.. I know how hard that is when young.. I caved in numerous times years ago..
