⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ To quote the BABYMETAL members in the audio commentary they did for this song: [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs). 'Megitsune' is still my favorite BABYMETAL song, music video, and choreography. It consistently tops fan polls, and has been performed live more often than any other BABYMETAL song. According to interviews with Yuyoyuppe, the song arranger, BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this back to him dozens of times before he was satisfied with the final mix. And he almost lost the final version when the project windows wouldn't open on his laptop. Backup your data everyone! The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director and choreographer. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
My favourite breakdowns from Babymetal are in this song, "iine!" (pronounced ee-neh!), and "Rondo of Nightmare". "iine!" is has Metal, Rap, and Electronicore all in one song, it's nuts and so experimental.
You should really go check out the RUclips channel “Babymetal Reactor Resource”. They have all sorts of videos that won’t get blocked on RUclips because there are watermarks over the video. Great reaction, its been a while since you did BABYMETAL. Not bad with the pronunciation - you just missed pronouncing the e at the end (all the vowels are pronounced in Japanese, but a u in the middle of a word may be almost silent ... this is what I've learned by watching BABYMETAL anyway). Of course they have breakdowns, they do everything. 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite song and has been played live more than any of their songs - this is another of their songs that really gets the crowd bouncing. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in this video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. Professor Andrew Hartley has made an excellent video which explains all the subtleties and meanings far better than I can if you care to watch that - it is really interesting. The breakdown with the pig squeals (yes that was pig squeal screams) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back - yes they were dancers from the group run by the lady who did the fan dance during the breakdown.
I get the feeling Grington300 300 is President and CEO of the "I will comment on Babymetal Reactions" Club. Always look for his comments before posting any of my own now. @@kiryukaimemorial127 Haha, thanks - we all work for the Fox God even if we don't know it yet. I think Megitsune was released in 2013. The Kami Band first appeared in October 2012 but (apart from a series of shows in May 2013) they were still only playing festivals and encores in some shows until they became the full time live support from the shows at the Budokan in March 2014.
Babymetal is best experienced live. Check out practically any live video of them. Way heavier live too. Check out GJ! or Sis Anger live. But if you haven't yet, watch Road of Resistance live, the crowd interaction is insane.

This is by FAR Babymetals best tune, it's catchy, it's bouncy, is fun, and it's at times heavy, really like this song, and I'm a fan of Babymetal, if you like this kind of stuff, you deffo need check out Ladybaby, is a Japanese(I think band) with 2 female vocalists, and a tall, hairy, muscular , bearded man, in a dress and pig tails, also fronting them, it's a sight to see, believe me lol
Haha, it's always good to see metalheads' faces when the breakdown starts. :-) If you think this looks energetic, check out what it looks like with an awesome Japanese crowd: www.dailymotion.com/video/x5fak8n
Yes, the band in this video are all dancers and are miming with the instruments, however, the real backing band (the Kami Band) performs very dynamically in concerts and puts on a great shown. They also do some great solos and breakdowns, check out Rondo of Nightmare and Catch Me is You Can. Megitsune is one of Babymetal's female empowerment songs and when they sing it in front of all female audiences it's amazing. It questions many traditional Japanese attitudes towards women. It starts with Moa and Yui pulling and spinning Su out of a traditional kimono and they immediately go into a very energetic dance that is the opposite of traditional Mai or Buyo women's dance. Then the lyrics compare women to female foxes. In Japan foxes are known as shape shifters and the lyrics say that women often have to hide their true feelings and change the face they show to the world, not in a sly way, but for the benefit of others even if they are crying inside. The breakdown is a traditional Japanese tune "Sakura, Sakura" or "Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom", but Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). This could be interpreted as a reference to Babymetal's divergence from their idol origins in Sakura Gakuin. Anyway, in the music, lyrics and also in the dance, Japanese traditions and traditional attitudes to women are subverted. The peak of this comes when Su shouts "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated" and in the video threateningly draws a knife from her microphone or in concerts does a front kick. Foxes are also associated with Inari, the Japanese god of rice, abundance and now also material success in business. I think linking the "Fox God" to Babymetal is their producer Kobametal having a bit of a joke and what better mascot for a commercial venture.
Wow it's been a while. Great choice to come back with! Megitsune's breakdown surprises almost everyone. My favourite Babymetal breakdown is in Rondo of Nightmare.
