@@totome2206 I did not even find the DPF very problematic in a 2007 V70. If one goes to a Volvo dealer asking for a "DPF repair" they will suggest replacing the DPF for 1000+ euros. If there's a better diesel out there I have never come across it. Even sounds sporty people have asked what petrol engine it has😂 Good video.
Have a i30 with the d4FB engine, 145k miles and had little to no issues. Only small issue has been a slight gas leak from the EGR gasket, and a small oil weep from the valve cover gasket. Not the most exciting engine, but perfect for motorway miles and cheap to maintain and service. The Hyundai service intervals are 20k miles, which I've ignored and changed the oil roughly every 7k between garage services.
I have an Alfa Romeo Mito 1.6 Jtdm its already has 299 thousand km and I have never had any problems with the engine. I only had problems with sensors and the vacuum pump and a pulley.
Generally the D5 is great, except from 2007 to 2010 when Volvo spared money and the timing belt was exposed to a generator belt which could break and the gen belt particles could slip under the timing belt. This was mitigated in a recall, but I heard the issue has not been entirely solved, the gen belt can still break and mess the timing belt and break the engine. I also love the Volvo 5-cylinder petrol engine with 170hp, I had those in two of my Volvos,
Interesting I had a 1.9 Bora TDI and had problems. They started at 72k miles. First was blocked egr and the breakdown services could not identify the fault. Second was now I changed the belt at 80k however there was a non fatal slip at about 85k. The final straw was oil pump failing causing a catastrophic engine failure due to oil starvation. It's really put me off the brand. It was a long time ago my car was a 1999 car. But I know of others with very high mileage golfs. I guess I was unlucky but because the car was expensive and repair work was also very expensive I would be reluctant to buy a car with that engine.

A neigbhour of ours got a new E 400 d Alltrack, w/ the OM656 engine (340 HP, 700 Nm).....it has made in the 5 1/2 company use years some 300 Tkm. Enormously powerful and torquy vehicle. Silent, and hitherto no problems.....it is an Euro 6d (spends 2 days on German Autobahns.....the rest in mountaineous central Switzerland)
Disagree for Audi/VAG CRT V6 3.0Tdi 4th GEN from 2015 onwards. I have one in my A6 Allroad and between 100 and 130k miles I had to do gearbox (understand that this is not the engine) , flywheel, both rocker covers, all three chains with tensioners and everything that goes with it (36 pieces in total), hydro lifters, glow plugs, water pump and belts, water hose, new turbo, new high pressure fuel pump, head gaskets, oil coolant with egr valve and gaskets.. I could have bought one more the same car for the money I’ve spent in a year and a half.

One of the best small diesels ever, especially the 120kw/163hp as you mentioned. I agree that modern Peugeots mostly don't handle the best, but they focus more on comfort
Well the Soviet quadcam multivalve all alloy V12 “V2” Kharkov tank engine has evolved into one of the greatest & most reliable diesels in the world since it came out in the 1930’s. The Commer opposed piston 2 stroke diesel was great, so was the Detroit Diesel 6-71 & the Napier Deltic would have to be the greatest diesel on the planet.
It depends, early models of B not that much but 2016 b58-57 are greatspecialy in M packet, that engine is capable of lot but for b48 its going great in late facelift of the engine and then its also great
I know diesel engines are very reliable and there is a Citroen Zsarie Picasso on a you tube which has a little over 5000000 miles on it any vehicle that has done over 500000 miles is a very good car and l know about the 5 cylinder Mercedes Benz diesel engine is also very reliable over 1000000 miles is also deserves tedpect
I had a 1992 530d MSport Auto which produced 184hp. I had it chip tuned to 220hp..it could do 0-60 in under 7 seconds and returned average fuel economy of 44.8mpg.. on motorway runs at 80mph @2100rpm often returned 49mpg Overtaking was rapid I surprised many a Porsche Boxster and Audi RS.. It was E39 probably the best balanced and handling saloon car I have driven...
I had 2 of the Peugeot 2.0 hdi . They both leaked oil everywhere. The first one I scrapped at 140k miles. The second one I scrapped at 105k miles after constant oil leaks, an alternator that caught fire, a blown turbo and a throttle housing failure. The final straw was finding ,2 new oil leaks and the plastic end of the dipstick snapping off in the dipstick tube and getting stuck. I have been driving Peugeots and Citroens since rhe 80s but the build quality has really gone down hill. The best Peugeot diesel was the pre common rail 1.9
The 2.0L Peugeot diesel is bulletproof. I drive hard and fast - had a 2012 308 - 165,00kms and not touched. My mechanic indicated he would change timing chain at 180,000 - 200,000kms as per Peugeots recommendation. Purchased my 3008 late last year and made sure I found a 2022 model with the 2.0L diesel engine (as per mechanic's recommendation.)
Definitely doing something wrong there... I've seen more 2.0 HDi engines sitting around the 700,000 - 1,000,000km than most other engines. Be it in PSA cars or Mondeos etc.
It is true that Audi V6 is one of the best, but from my personal experience I would give it a 2nd or 3rd place. I own a 2.7 BPP / BMK 2nd generation version. The 3.0 version is even better but they need a huge amount of maintenance. Never had any catastrophic failure as timing chain or piston issues but the lack of engineering design of the intake and injection system are really causing lots of problems on these engines. If the engine is not tortured under heavy loads or acceleration it would have lived decades , with this single small exception of the piezo injector design problem, intake manifold and EGR system that is not adequate to mixed city-highway driving. Only highway driven ones can make the a long lasting life and mileage. As for the rest I must admit it has never left me on foot ever since I own it . For the torque, power to weight ratio and driving experience , I think there is no equal to this engine
I'm hoping there right about the 2,4 Volvos as I have a V70 and really enjoy driving it it's got enough of power and is very comfortable . it's got 95000 miles on it now so if this video is right it's less than half drove in 😊
True, its only one from 2000 aera same in durability as 1.9 tdi 85kw, i am bmw fan but I don't believe that 3.0d from bmw is capable of doing more then those 2, also psa concern. Those 2 1.9 are capable of red line forrever, not psa 🤣
Fiat 1.3 multijet I thought was very good had it in a Panda 130k miles economical good economy only issue was EGR clogged every 36k miles awkward and expensive to replace should have been made a service item with easy replacement engineered in.

We have a Volvo XC70 D5, 2012, 215 HP. (D5244T15), 440 Nm. We bought it with 160 Tkm, made all big services inc. flushing of the auto. The we had it remapped to 255 HP, 520 Nm. This was 2016. Now, they guy has some scratches, 420 Tkm, we change oil all 12 -13 Tkm,. One thing to do : clean the EGR, and at 324 Tkm we had all 5 injectors cleansed. I personally drive Volvo (Diesel) since the 240 came out...Besides Mercedes' E Class Cdi's for me the best Diesels. (allways station wagon, 4x4, mandatory).
Rover Montego perkins 2.0 prima direct injection one of the best diesel engines ever.
Mercedes OM617, Isuzu 4JH1-TC, Toyota 12HT and Cummins 6BT.
Agreed. I was suprised to see 2.4 fiat engine on the list as the cars are not that durable.
Italians have made some great engines, the 2.4 is no exception (it initially was an Alfa Romeo developed lump). And it sounds great!
i love my 1.9 tdi 74kw PD with orginal 300.000km without any problem
BXE ?
ATD@@M4V3RiCkU235
@@M4V3RiCkU235bxe has 77kW PD
You missed the king of them all, the Mercedes OM648, an even better motor then the OM606
No problems with oil getting into the wiring loom in that model ??
Seen 800k
In which Merc were they built? My wife’s Merc C220d went over 600.000k ‘s, flawlessly
Toyota 2KD-FTV 2.5, Isuzu 4JA1-L 2.5, Hyundai R 2.2, Toyota 1HD-FT 4.2, Mitsubishi 4D56 2.5, Toyota 2L 2.4.
where is the legendary om606 in the list?
Fiat 2.0 jtd and PSA 2.0 hdi the best disel engines
N47d20c for BMW fantastic engine i have 245000 km with updates at 220 hp with no problems .
the Renault f9 1.9 d on my Laguna passed 340k, still great
Disagree for Audi/VAG CRT V6 3.0Tdi 4th GEN from 2015 onwards.
Being sensible surely the best diesel engine has got to be the 2014 1.6 dtec honda,
The 1.6 idtec is a superb engine, I’ve done 33k miles in mine so far with zero dramas
@@steviefn2typer Is that turbocharged? As my 2014 Civic Executive is and appears so far, bulletproof. But I've only owned it for 6 months. Being turbocharged is a bit of a concern, as they're a consumable item.
@@manosparavida3551 the idtec is a turbo diesel, most things in cars are consumable, it’s just that Hondas last longer
No Renault 1.5 and 2.0 dci?
Renault also 1,5 and 2,0 are the best engines off all
And what about 1.6dci? I hear it is also reliable
I love the 1.5 DCI because of fuel consumption but not sure about suitability. They use that on the nissan quasqui but I heard negative things about them on that car but I think on a clio it's awesome
Toyota 1.4 is the best in the small engine category. Fiat 1.3 comes close.
Felicidades por gran video ..ganastes un subscriptor mas...
Saludo desde España 😊
We had a PSA 307 and a 308, 2.0 hdi 120kw. 100% love the engine, but the handling is the worst ive ever driven. Now looking at some other choices, like af 159, MB E wagaon, xc70/90, a6 allroad 3.0 tdi. Any suggestion?
One of the best small diesels ever, especially the 120kw/163hp as you mentioned. I agree that modern Peugeots mostly don't handle the best, but they focus more on comfort
You totally missed 1.9 jtd fiat I never heard anyone that got to the point of broken engine ....only reason I clicked on this video was that one .
Haha. Same here.
Just picking up some diesel engines and presenting them as the best.
My parents had an VW LT28 TDI, 5 cylinders, and runs 1.2 millions km, after that they sold it, and the guy that bought it drive it daily even today
keep the oil clean they all run high miles ,
Renew filter as well.
many new German diesel engines do not last since they put the single timming chain at the back of the engine
from the feedback i gather the BMW B series diesels are also reliable modern engines?
It depends, early models of B not that much but 2016 b58-57 are greatspecialy in M packet, that engine is capable of lot but for b48 its going great in late facelift of the engine and then its also great
No mention of ISUZU engines?
Citroen dw8 1.9 diesel engines go forever
And the predecessor XU7, XU9 and XU11 series.
@@LhDiy XUD. XU are petrol engines.
Yes you're right, i meant XUD7, XUD9 and XUD11@@damiank9443
I know diesel engines are very reliable and there is a Citroen Zsarie Picasso on a you tube which has a little over 5000000 miles on it any vehicle that has done over 500000 miles is a very good car and l know about the 5 cylinder Mercedes Benz diesel engine is also very reliable over 1000000 miles is also deserves tedpect
Most reliable engine ever is M54 BMW year 2000 to 2004 . No engine comes close.
Rubbish, total rubbish.
I had a 1992 530d MSport Auto which produced 184hp. I had it chip tuned to 220hp..it could do 0-60 in under 7 seconds and returned average fuel economy of 44.8mpg.. on motorway runs at 80mph @2100rpm often returned 49mpg
Overtaking was rapid I surprised many a Porsche Boxster and Audi RS.. It was E39 probably the best balanced and handling saloon car I have driven...
Diesel engines are reducing every year in the U.K.?
Honda!
pronounciation of seat is quite funny
another good engine is the bmw 2.5 turbo diesel 6 cyl. 141 bhp mainly in the 5 series 1997 to 2001 good on fuel also
The honda n16 idtec engine 👍
Not my experience definitely. Mine was absolutely bulletproof 450k kms before being totalled.
Mitsubishi 4D56 🗿🍷
4d56 name one good think about it 🤨
1.4 D4D is not the same as the PSA 1.4 HDI?
noooo.
Surprisingly not, despite some of their cars sharing platforms and engines. Both 1.4 D4D and 1.4 HDi engines are very solid though
You missed the Fiat 1.3jtd and 1.9jtd.
1.3 have some problems, the rest is goed.
not the 1.3
Man this video was very interesting.
what ai voice did you use for narration it is good
2.0 jtde engine is so good too, 140 hp 350 nm on my fiat
I'm hoping there right about the 2,4 Volvos as I have a V70 and really enjoy driving it it's got enough of power and is very comfortable . it's got 95000 miles on it now so if this video is right it's less than half drove in 😊
OM606 TD with a mechanical pump from a OM603 TD. That's what i'm after
You forgot the Alfa, Romeo 1.9 JDTM
That is a great engine , touch noisy even for a diesel but its a great reliable engine
That's a Fiat engine on a common Fiat/GM block
True, its only one from 2000 aera same in durability as 1.9 tdi 85kw, i am bmw fan but I don't believe that 3.0d from bmw is capable of doing more then those 2, also psa concern. Those 2 1.9 are capable of red line forrever, not psa 🤣
Honda diesel crossover 1L km without any issue
Fiat 1.3 multijet diesel is the "national engine" here in India.
The Renault diesel 1,5 l. The engine is also used in many Mercedes and of course Dacia.
I forgot the Suzuki petrol engine 1,3 and 1,5 the engines use chains instead of timebelt.
Fiat 1.3 multijet I thought was very good had it in a Panda 130k miles economical good economy only issue was EGR clogged every 36k miles awkward and expensive to replace should have been made a service item with easy replacement engineered in.
Isuzu Industrial Engine 1.7dti 2.0dti 2.2dti
i never heard of a honda diesel ...i was sure they dont exists .it surprised me
What about the honda 1.6 dtec
