John - it has been an utter pleasure to walk with you across this year. By chance - or good fortune - I joined you as lockdown started and have walked on many of your walks with you. Standout for me are your river and estuary walks and, of course, the River Lea........... there is a frisson of excitement I feel whenever you say "confluence" ....... anyway, thanks for your outstanding efforts across the year, I, for one, am grateful for your endeavours... thank you.
Just discovered John this year... I enjoy every video... I am a fat middle aged man and just like after years of not reeding a book Bill Bryson inspired me to read John has inspired me walking.... Let's get that weight off in 2020 👍 thanks John keep it up 👍👍👍👍
I was bored during late May, so I typed Leyton into RUclips and never expected to see such an interesting and quality video on the area. I never quite appreciated how interesting local history is before watching that. The walks around Walthamstow, Redbridge, Epping Forest and the Lee Valley were really good I lived in Leytonstone for 3 years until Feb 2020, and when you start your films in the back doubles and on Grove Green Road towards the train station reminds me of those days
I only discovered your channel a few months ago, Mr Rogers, but it has become essential weekly viewing. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your philosophy and your perspectives. I still cannot believe the channel only has 16.4k subscribers (at the time of writing), as the quality of the content deserves far wider enjoyment; however, I have every confidence that figure will grow. All good wishes to you and yours for 2021.
Wonderful video John I loved your comment @23,50 "when in a subway for the first time who knows where you will emerge or what world you will be thrust into" , I found it rather fitting and relevant with the times we live in today, who knows what kind of world will will be in post Brexit and pandemic. But as you said at the end of the East London edgelands video "better days are up ahead" Thanks you John
Thank you for these wonderfully informative and soothing walks. Watching and ‘walking along’ from afar has helped immensely through this very closed in year. Especially for those of us who are sorely missing London
I will always remember this year, for many reasons. And it was the year I found you. I’ve enjoyed all your walks ,full of hidden jewels. Thank you John, and a happy new year to you and yours.
Thank you, John. I go bicycling to relax, but when I can't, I watch your videos. I hope you keep putting out your quality content, and that you stay healthy and safe and walking in 2021. Happy new year.
Only just discovered this channel through a friend. Thanks so much for your work, and I look forward to watching these through the current lockdown. This site is an absolute gem.
A real joy to have come across your channel John; one of the highlights of my 2020. Your commentary, music selection, locations and vistas have a calming effect worth coming back to.
I would like to send a big thank you to you. I stumbled on your channel during the first peak and your walks inspired me to get out there. Working from home does take its toll on you sometimes. I have lived all my life in Leyton and never really explored I have now completed quite a few of your walks which also inspired me to pull out my old bike from the cellar. Thanks John great channel !
I'm originally from Leyton mum still lives in Leytonstone. I found your channel during the first lockdown and have now probably watched every video on it. Loved your Ramsgate video as I'm down this way now. Thanks for a fantastic insightful guide through the wonders of East London and beyond. Always look forward to you posting a new video as does most of the family now. Cheers mate all the very best to you in 2021 🍻
Thank you so much for your video walks, John. I discovered your channel a week or so ago, when scanning youtube for all things Walthamstow, my home town. You remind me so much of a lovely, red haired , teenage boy called John, that I used to go for long philosophical walks with around Walthamstow and the bit of Epping Forest by the Forest School. I live on beautiful Vancouver Island now, but often get homesick. More so since I got back from a six month stay taking of my Mum in 2018/2019. Your walks and knowledge sharing have been a wonderful tonic during this tightened phase of our lockdown. Thank you for being my tour guide down many memory lanes..
I think quite honestly you have helped a lot of us get out even if we 'couldn't get out, you know what I mean. Thank you John. I am looking forward to where you take us in 2021. Happy New Year x
I discovered your channel a few days ago, and over the Xmas 2020 period I've watch almost everything! One thing I've noted, London and it's suburbs offer a greatly condensed amount of attractions! I live in mid-Norfolk and would have to walk ten times the distance, to see the same number of sights! My favourite area that you covered is the Eastend of the Thames Valley! Wapping is now my prime destination, in the whole of Europe!
The more i think about it, you're a much more interesting and entertaining version of Countryfile! Great review of 2020. Here's hoping that 2021 is much, much better!
The review was every bit as wonderful as it's individual parts Including the cheese sandwich and draft beer in carton Continue happy wandering throughout 2021 Stay strong and healthy SMILES 👍🇬🇧👌
Thank you John, a brilliant round up to a roller coasting year, I wish you and yours all the best and brightest ,hope the next year will be better in all ways, see you on the next one wherever that maybe, hopefully, New River, Hackney Brook, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, Abney Cemetery, Finsbury Park, Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill sort of areas, Cheers Mate ⭐🌈😎
Watching your walks every week during lockdown(s) has kept me sane and inspired to follow in your foot steps. So many layers of history around us and different perspectives and stories that need to be told that challenge traditional orthodoxies about London and the rest of the country.
Thank you John for all the fascinating walks during this tough year. I have really looked forward to Sunday evenings. Wishing you and your family a very happy and peaceful 2021.
Thanks for all videos John I've just discovered your channel couple of months ago and must admit your walks are like sunshine on a rainy day . They bring so many beautiful memories of my time in London , Bucks and other places I used to live in the U.K. . Wish I could walk those trials and watch the sunsets on top of Chiltern hills . I just hope old world we know so well is going to come back soon and we start walking and walking and walking miles again ... Peace !
John great end of year video that wasn't a great year..but truly your videos have brightened every Sunday through this horrible time Well done mate . Here's to next year.
Your videos are enjoyable calm bliss, a daydream, an escape, a delightful meander . Such a pleasant diversion in a year of uncertain worry .Thankyou so much
Thank you John for all of the wonderful journeys you have taken me on. Your walks are packed with facinating information and so much interest. I discovered you during the first lockdown in March and can honestly say that your videos helped to remove the anxieties and worries of the year we have all experienced. Happy 2021 let’s hope it’s different. 😊👍
Your films have been a real highlight of 2020 - providing escape for pandemic induced confinement, vicarious adventures on foot at a relaxing pace, wandering through familiar areas and discoverig new places. Looking forward to more adventure through the overlooked landscape. All the best for 2021.
I "found" your channel about 6 months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the films. They have helped me through these difficult times. Living over in Gloucester my only visits to London was in the 1970/80's to the speedway tracks at Rye House, Hackney, Wimbledon, Wembley, White City and Crayford but the films are so interesting. Keep going, wherever that may be!
thanks Graham - Rye House makes an appearance in a couple of my Lea Valley videos - I could hear the bikes racing round the track all the way up in the hills above Roydon
What a year witch I hope will never be repeated as for John Rogers I found your site in lockdown and what an absolute privilege it was to see so many of his walks kept me sane while lockdown was and still going on so many many thanks John Rogers for your excellent videos I wish you and your family A Happy and prosperous healthy new year and many more videos to come thank you so much .
Thanks John for that fantastic recap. I only discovered your channel partway through the year so as well as the new weekly videos it’s great to also dip into the archives of past videos. Did you have a favourite walk this year?
Well John, another year of joining you on your walks draws to a close. The review of the year film is excellent. It’s fascinating to watch the seasons change as I follow you. Some of the images that you’ve captured in 2020 are breathtakingly beautiful.. And of course you’ve created a record of what it was like to walk the streets during the pandemic restrictions of 2020. I can’t overstate how valuable your weekly films mean to me. They sooth and calm me and I get lost in your adventures. And let’s not forget the unusual and fantastic music that accompany your films. I wish you and all of your family good mental and physical health in 2021. Thank you for all of the work that you create. Dave. Dublin. 😊 ✌️☀️👍
i really do love yours walks mush. being a squatter and a bicycle messenger for most of my life in the centre of london your content really brings back memories... and now im retired and live on a boat on the river lea your walks and talks about this area are really good for me.. thank you.....
Hi john, thanks for the wonderful video After falling through a rusty drain cover yesterday And the main water pipe suddenly bursting in the kitchen this morning This was just what I needed to lift the day Loved the Loughton and Epping videos I spent many a night car camping at high beech in my late teens And also when I lived in Waltham cross I would walk the river Leigh and I would frequently eat and drink in the fish and eels pub Brought a huge smile to my face seeing the pub again after many years Thanks for the wonderful videos A happy and safe new year to you and your family.
I'm new to your channel and find myself so intrigued. I grew up in Bayswater/Westbourne Park before moving first to Hayes Middlesex, then Staines Middlesex and lastly Kingston. Then I left the UK. That's over 25 years ago and I guess a combination of aging and sentimentality brings me here. Thank you for the great content and insight to parts of London and the surrounding areas that I had very little knowledge about.
A great review John...it rendered perfectly ...fascinating to follow the seasons in your never ending tribute to London and its surroundings..the new the old and the ancient all blended with a hint of mystery and sometimes myth...your films are the higspot of my week....
Thanks so much, I really appreciate the work that went into compiling this wonderful video, looking forward to more adventures in topography next year!
Hi John, I found your work on a Search for Anything about Benfleet. As that's where I spent the Best part of my youth. And I really enjoyed your walk from Benfleet, Leigh on Sea, Westcliff and Beyond. Since I Subscribed. I have enjoyed your Trundles through Essex along River Banks and Canals. Outskirts of London and more. You have taken me back to my youth. And for that there are not enough Thanks possible on this Site. But a Serious Thank you. Stay Well, Safe and Best wishes for 2021 and Beyond. Cheers Kim in Oz. 😎 P.s. My Grandmother lived in Leytonstone, Claude Rd to be Precise. Thx for your efforts. 😎
Finding your channel this year has been a delight. You have covered locations of my childhood and teenage years (seeing the changes has been profound), and revealed other locations and histories I knew little about. Highly valuable documents of this time, too. Thank you.
Thank you John for all the amazing walks of 2020. You have taken us to some incredible places. Happy new year! Look forward to seeing you on your next walk wherever that maybe 😢
Thank you for all the walks you have taken us on this year John. The way these are produced, and your engaging delivery really do make us feel like we are there with you. I especially liked the walks around your local area during the early part of lockdown. I look forward to many more informative, interesting and entertaining films in 2021. Happy New Year to you and yours, and I will be tuned in for your first walk in 2021...wherever that may be!
Hi John, I have only recently discovered the films of your wonderful walks. You are so inspiring and informative. I’ve been a tour guide in London for about 15 years and during the pandemic I have been filming some themed tours in central London and am now in the process of constructing a website etc. Thanks again. In a way, I’m so pleased I came to them late as I now have many treats to watch during the latest lockdown as a way of escape. You are such a genial host as well and someone you can enjoy a pint with! Keep up the great work!
Thank you John,a spirit of peace and calm embued this whole film. It was lovely to see all these places enhanced by your knowledge and imagination. This really was a golden hour. I'm looking forward to more interesting walks in 2021 and hoping you can do them. All good wishes to your family too.
Hi John, I would like to thank you for your wonderful and educational walks of London. I came across your channel early this year and I've been hooked. I wait patiently for your next walk every Sunday. My wife bought me your book, Another London for Christmas! Well Christmas day I couldn't put your book down. I worked in London for a couple of years 2016 to 2018 and I am always returning to London. I fell in love with the place. The architecture and the History fascinates me. This year I have not been able to come to London due to the strange year with Covid 19 effecting so many people. I think as London as my home. I don't know what it is but I fell in love with the place and its under my skin. Hopefully next year I will be able to return to and see some of the amazing places you have shown us on your walks. Thanks for keeping me sane this year. I wish you and your family all the best for the new year! Look forward to more of your walks next year! If im in a pub and you pass i will shout to you and a nice cold Stella will be at the bar haha. Take care and once again thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all.
I'll just add my voice to the chorus of thanks for your videos over the last - sometimes difficult - 12 months John, and the hope of better times in 2021. All the best, look after yourselves, and see you on the next walk, wherever that may be. Sorry, couldn't resist! 😬
fabulous stuff john, so pleased i found your channel back in April/May. Truly inspiring, very comforting to watch and a consummate performer, was a pleasure to bump into you in Ramsgate in August, keep up the good work and i hope to be visiting a few places you've highlighted this year.
John, that is an excellent, very well-edited montage of episode highlights from this strange last year. I especially enjoyed the (to me) very familiar sequence filmed at Mile End Road, including those astonishing alms houses. Keep it up, and Happy New year.
Thankyou for all your Videos. Sundays have been my favourite day of the week because of them. And what a great recap to end the year. Looking forward to your Videos in 2021 wherever they may be and Happy New Year
What an incredible review of your walking year, many thanks for sharing this wonderful video. I've forgetten until watching this what brilliant videos there were. Thanks again, have a great week and a happy new year! Can't wait for the next one.
A wonderful documentation of a quite singular year. I'm sure to watch this one more than a few times. Keep it up and unfurl your sails on the waves of 2021.
Very many thanks for all your wonderful videos and perhaps more importantly for cheering us all up in these unsettling times. A Happy New Year to you and your family from Berlin!
That was a great walking look back through 2020 John. Wishing you, your family and your viewers a Happy New Year! Looking forward to the next walk - take care
Thank you for your wonderful review of 2020, John. I love your videos so much. Now we're heading into Lockdown 2 I hope you'll be able to continue with the fantastic videos you make. Really enjoying the lost rivers thread and hope that you will include the River Effra in Brixton one day. I used to live on Effra Road and my songwriting friend wrote a song about it back in the 1980s. Stay safe, stay well. xx
Thank John, for such wonderful videos and walks throughout this bizarre year. Looking forward to more in 2021. Ps. Would love to see a walk to the source of the river Lea. Think it would complete the journey.
Thanks for all your great informative videos and all the hard work you put into them this year John. With everything thing that has gone on your videos have always given me something to look forward to. Wishing you and your family a great New Year ahead.
Really enjoyed this, John. I've watched dozens of your videos since lockdown began and I have enjoyed every second. Hope you enjoy your well earned rest. Happy New Year. 👍

I have only recently discovered the films of your wonderful walks.
Many thanks Gary much appreciated. Best of luck with your videos and website
Great Virtual Tour! 😊😊👍👍 Thank you for sharing! Big Like!
Absolutely wonderful watching this all back. Thanks John

A wonderful documentation of a quite singular year. I'm sure to watch this one more than a few times. Keep it up and unfurl your sails on the waves of 2021.
Great round up John, hopefully more of the same for 2021! All of the very best and thank you so much for being such brilliant and interesting company.
Very many thanks for all your wonderful videos and perhaps more importantly for cheering us all up in these unsettling times. A Happy New Year to you and your family from Berlin!

Brilliant John! I look forward to more. Happy New year! 🙏
Wishing you a healthy, happy, and safe 2021. Your videos have been so appreciated during this difficult time.
All the best for 2021 looking forward to more great walks

Ooh! Arthur Machen! When you mentioned that writers name the hair on my neck went up. An author of terrifying stories. Superb footage as always.
Really enjoyed this, John. I've watched dozens of your videos since lockdown began and I have enjoyed every second. Hope you enjoy your well earned rest. Happy New Year. 👍
